I will say that I don't even have a problem with the frown/sad face. Along with the removable limbs, the frown may also be intended to imitate the underwater "fix me" scene from TFTM 86.

It's the overall structure of the face that's the main problem for me.

Hopefully a 3rd party rescues this figure they way they did Generations Kup all those years ago.

Much, Much better. Wow. Makes a HUGE difference.

Waiting to hear the fan rage when they announce SS86 DLX Arcee - after people already purchased the Earthrise figure.

Isn't it more likely they won't make a new Arcee. Or a Springer.

Very promising; I'm very excited for this figure. Someone else has probably said this, but, I really, really, really want a fembot remold of this figure as Firestar from the Search for Alpha Trion. Soooo badly do I want it....

Yep, and if they do get released in SS86 to fill space it's pretty likely they'd just be movie accurate repaints

Remember the outrage when Takara Legends Kup was announced/revealed and he was grey/dark grey rather than pale mint green like he he should be/is now? At the time, HasTak saw all of the fan outrage over the original color scheme and corrected it before the figure went to production.

Hoping for a similar situation with SS 86 Kup's headsculpt. But, it might be too difficult for HasTak to pull off because a mold change takes alot more time to redesign and I'm sure there is too much sunk cost because the mold die for the head was likely already made and is very expensive.

That would be unfortunate as the Studio Series normally commands higher standards in accuracy for the movie characters, and as far as I’m concerned isn’t afraid to go more parts and engineering to achieve it without cheating.

I agree totally with your aesthetic dissection of what's throwing the '86 face that bit "off".
It looks to me like the SS'86 face is caricaturing current Clint Eastwood.

Springer as is is already pretty accurate to the movie, and Arcee is not really an easy design to do without some sort of concession. Yes, the T30 Arcee didn't utilize partsforming, but at the same time it's backpack is not accurate while the ER Arcee attemps for an accurate outline overall but that necessitates removing parts.

IMO T30 Arcee pulled it off better. Where it fails in its backpack it more than makes up for in a better alt mode.

    Without cheating.

I liked TR Kup, but this one looks good too.

This I can get behind. Not like we've gotten a dozen Kups over the years.

Springer and Arcee are easy passes but I'll be interested in seeing what they come up with for Ultra Magnus.

I still see a later release of all of the 86 movie characters done up in better colors either as single packed exclusives or a full box set like Target did a few years ago.

Honestly, I'd agree. The only area where ER Arcee really wins out is the articulation (not to say T30 has bad articulation, ER just has more).

Kup looks good, but he’s a bit of a step down from Hot Rod. My main issue is the proportions. He doesn’t feel like he’s from the same Studio Series lineup. They should’ve given him articulated peg hands like Hot Rod. They seem like they’d be the right size and would scale pretty well with his head. Speaking of his head, it would look better if it were a tiny bit bigger.

For the most part I like Kup, although articulated hands like Hotrod has would've been nice.

Wrist swivels would've been nice as well, especially with the price of Deluxes going up by $3 now.
