Hmmm, if i have to put my two cents, if this pattern is a recurring thing, i'm guessing either the obligatory Sword/Shield starter would be the newest addition. Either that or Decidueye... given it's "Fan favorite" status due to the whole debut in Pokken.

 

This wouldn't surprise me.

That's my thinking. If we do get a fighter from Pokken or SwSh, I'd like it to be either Sceptile, Decidueye, or Rillaboom since we already have a Fire and Water starter.

 

Decidueye was planned for Smash Ultimate, but was scrapped because Decidueye was already in Pokken Tournament. Incineroar replaced him because Incineroar has a unique moveset (being a wrestler.)
I'd imagine Urshifu or some other pokemon from swsh being the Pokemon to join.

 

I mean, there's many reasons Incineroar was likely chosen, Likely his heel style would be a main reason, maybe perhaps the anime strongly supported that too, considering that it was the central starter in the Alolan Saga. Like there was episodes that focused on the pokemon, ironically being in a almost face-like depiction. And Ash having it's pre-evo adds into things. Also the things that will happen later on, but i won't get too much into that detail.

... And i guess if it's going to be from Sword and Shield, it would likely be a Starter from the base game. All three seem to be very likely candidates. I just don't know if Urshifu would be considered, given it's two separate, branching forms. That would lead to the most extensive stretching of the whole Echo Fighter concept, and we are not sure if Sakurai would even consider adding a extra echo as a means to get both of them in.

Plus it might lead to another thing to point out. Someone would go and theorize "Wait, so will this season pass focus on just martial artists?"

That would actually be silly.
