Have fun actually trying to colour match with dye, though.

Now this is a swish update on Hot Rod. Between TR needing a little bot to be part of him and POTP needing to be part of a bigger bot, both still felt on the same level of the classics toy. This feels, as Vangelus would say, like it's eating the MP's lunch.

Also, has it been touched on all the 86 characters put out when SS86 had to have been getting planned?

They could have easily held them for SS and their spots given to other characters that we know we're ready. Why do the judge when Inferno is a retool away and Soundwave was ready? Arcee and Alicon's spots could've gone to Bumblebee and Elita-1. Yes they're in the show, everyone else is redecos why not them? And poor Springer had to get Siege paint. I fully expect a clean double dip for him.

Unless, UNLESS the next movie is coming too soon to ride out 86 longer and they wanted those molds out in the wild. I hope someone remembers to bring this up when events with actual interviews happen again.

    How is the head constructed?
The face looks separate, even that helps.

Keep in mind that the voice box takes up 50% of that space, and so without it, you get a more compact backpack. A more apt example would prabably be MP-45. Gimmicks are what erk me.

It's not really a matter of trying hard or not. It's just a different design ethos at play. If MP-28 Hot Rod were attempted now, he'd have turned out way different. That toy was still in the lower budget scale, before they cranked up the parts count and engineering with the crazy magic inside-out engineering. On top of that, final engineering of that toy was supposedly handled by one of the juniors on the design team, rather than the veterans.

I feel this toy better encompasses what they would have attempted with a Masterpiece in this day and age, just at a lower budget level.

I wish Hasbro would have tried this hard on Ectrotron!

Wow... He’s 95% perfect. While I do normally prefer updated designs, this is just beautiful. The yellow hinge in car mode is unfortunate, but I usually keep them in robot mode anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I'm totally in love with this Hot Rod and will probably purchase two of them, and any repaints of it that might get produced, but I do have very minor criticisms of the figure

Cant see myself needing any other HotRods after this. Like this is so on the mark that unless they release a magenta version with a fishing pole I'm done.

How on Earth is this a thing?

    • No hollow gaps (At least none that I see)
    • Great accessories
    • Character appropriate gimmicks.

I love it the more I see it.

I think I'll be happy as long as I can manage to get a color that's close enough where it blends together at first glance.

There are little nitpicks about the figure one could point out, but to me the good far, FAR outweighs the bad. I know most people think of The Touch when someone mentions the music of TF:TM, but for me the soundtrack of this thread will be this:

By refocusing the tooling budget. This is a Deluxe-ish toy at a Voyager pricepoint. Rather than engineer for size, they went for density, which allows him to be filled in better, plus with a bit of wiggle room left over to include a whole swath of accessories as well.
