That's so precious! Not to be a boomer, but it always warms my heart to see young whippersnappers appreciate the good old titles despite all the advancements in gaming. Forgot how much I used to love '90s topdown shooters such as Machine Hunter, Take No Prisoners and Mageslayer. Hell, they can still send my adrenaline levels through the roof on harder difficulties!
I’ve been revisiting the old doom games again to finish doom 64 and doom 2 so I was curious as to what the add-on section of the PS4 version of doom 2 actually was as I fancied some more levels to battle through and it turns out there is loads of extra free levels that I think are final doom levels that started life in the modding community as well as many other extra levels. It feels great to get something for free and have my expectations surpassed as I was expecting either nothing substantial at all or expensive dlc in that add-ons section. The levels themselves from what I have played so far are just plain brutality, cruelty and sadism which generally speaking is a positive thing when it comes to doom levels. I generally like platform games and having noticed some positive discussion about them in this thread I decided to get the mega man X collection volume 1 as I also kind of wanted to give them a go on the SNES as a kid but getting copies of them back then seemed impossible. The first thing that is noticeable about these games is how well they play but how brutal the difficulty is. Perhaps people experienced at play mega man games no longer notice this but if I’m honest I’m finding these games really frustrating with lots of difficulty spikes and instant deaths that feel like they rely on trial and error or knowledge rather than just skill. Perhaps I’m being unfair and need to take the time to get good and learn these games before I can fully judge them.
They've got Doom 1, 2, etc mods all lumped together because the new engine doesn't really care. Be sure to check out SIGIL, as it's the quasi-official 5th episode of Ultimate Doom, made by John Romero. The X games break a little bit from the classic series in that exploring the levels for hidden upgrades is just as important as clearing the bosses and getting their weapons. As you get more equipment, the stages will become less brutal.
Had the urge to play Goldeneye today after talking about it yesterday and thankfully remembered this time to just walk out a door to end the first mission instead of getting shot to death trying to use the conveyer belt like in the movie.
Konami just dropped a bunch of games onto GOG.com, if anyone with a PC wants to get in on some emulated retro-gaming.
Was looking at a list of everything that was on 360 XBLA today and it sort of made me want to buy a Series S after reminding me how much good stuff i've got sitting on my MS account that's back compatible. The HD ports of of Daytona, Virtual On OT, Radiant Silvergun and Perfect Dark. The mini Dead Rising games that never got ported to anything else, the good remake of the original Prince of Persia that nobody ever talks about, Geometrary Wars, Space Invaders IG and Space Giraffe. Could also finally get round to PD Orta on OG XB. Don't need a MS console for new games because PC, but that's going to be temping if I can get one cheap later in the gen.
I'm trying to decide between Streets of Rage, Streets of Rage II, and Gunstar Heroes for the 3DS. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!
SOR2 if you want to punch things, Gunstar if you want to shoot things. You can't go wrong with any of them.
Never made it to Canada as it was due to be released just as Covid hit (if it was ever planned to be released here at all), and it's hard to find now without paying a mint for it. But I imagine it was just like all the rest that were released. A neat little nostalgia machine that can play your favorites on an HDTV (and maybe more if it's able to be hacked).
I like mine, just haven't used it much due to timing (Covid didn't give me more free time, if anything I'm busier because of it's effects). I wish there was a dedicated home button on the controllers somehow, and I do find it frustrating that a number of games being untranslated leave them almost unplayable without great effort, especially "Snatcher". which is tops on my retro games I want to play list. The wiring set up can be a little annoying too, but that's just a nitpick.
Been playing through my copy of the "Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle" (PC version). Final Fight is a top contender for my personal favorite video game, so of course played through that as my main character Mayor Haggar. A month ago, I was even lucky enough to find a online version to go almost from the beginning when the servers are usually abandoned. Since then, also played through "Battle Circuit" and just went through "Captain Commando", which I haven't played since it's inclusion in a PS2 Capcom collection disc.
The usual online reviews liked it. I may try to find one... I think I saw that the translation issue does affect that Kojima game. Well, the hunt is, it seems. Thanks!
Right now, it seems to be in stock on Amazon for it's regular price. There was a time after it's release over the summer where it wasn't and was going for ridiculous aftermarket prices. Being an Amazon exclusive, there isn't many other options. On the other hand, it could be discounted with Amazon Prime Day coming up around a week, though it's still a gamble when it comes to stock.
I have to admit, as a beat-em-up junkie, I was thinking about getting this bundle. Do you feel like it was worth the money? It's just too bad it doesn't have Cadillacs and Dinosaurs on it. I understand it's probably not possible due to licensing, but that one is one of my favorites.
