I just realized that there’s a fairly decent chance that studio series 86 Grimlock will have animation accurate blue eyes. Not sure how to feel bout that.

 

I personally feel like that's more of a 100%, it's based on the movie and he never had red eyes in the movie.

 

Yeah but... we've gotten proper in-hand pics of Netflix Optimus, the kind that are representative of the final product, and they have notable differences from the official shots (both Hasbro and Takara's physical product shots), including subtly green windshields instead of completely clear... yet the biceps are still dark blue.

Ok , hear me out , 2 figures in and I THINK this is going to be the best mini subline we ever got from a CHUG line.
Let's start with HOT ROD. but oh boy where do we even begin with?

His robot is GORGEOUS. I keep presssing on how it embarass MP28 and MP40. It shows. Beautiful body proportion , clean kibble. Even the face has a more sharp angle that make him more confident looking yet young and full of spirit thanks to his sculpt body and body language.
Color is the middle of MP28 Magenta and CHUG Rod red. Regardless I think this is the perfect blend! Color are apply where it is suppose to be save for maybe the lack of paint on his front skirt.
Otherwise? His leg has accurate color and that look killer!
Without spoiling much I can confidently say that this one has proportion of the artwork and color of the second art with the magenta more red. I include MP-28 picture to stress how badly proportion it is. I am MP fan and I am still embarassed.


ARTICULATION.
He has
+ Ball jointed neck with very wide range
+ Based hinged neck thanks to transformation
+ Butterfly and hinged shoulder with very wide to be able to pose YOU GOT THE TOUCH one which we can touch on later!
+ Shoulder swivel
+ Wrist swivel and articulated fingers.
+ Bicep swivel but at the articulated point not cut on shoulder
+ Waist swivel
+ Crotch joint similar to ER Primus
+ Double knee joint.
+ Front and backward and side to side ankle movement.


He is by far one of the most articulated figure with Spinister. I had so much fun playing with him all day.

********* Hot rod has hidden feature! You can flip out his wrist panels , one left hand to reveal his Fuel hand! And right hand flipped to reveal peg to attach his saw!
+ A smoking blue effect that can be put on his gun or his hand smokestack or any standard effect pegs.
+ A new Matrix (? at least mine comes with). The reason I think this is new one that come with Hot rod because the sculpt is maybe new with some very minor difference in mold but VERY SHARP DIAMOND SCULPTING. And the color is very very deep blue now.
+ A clear blue matrix effect , the YOU WILL LIGHT UP OUR HOPE with I think is the most beautiful effect part I have ever seen in TF toy history. It radiates powerful energy! It simply clip on the matrix.
^ The whole shoulder joints are solely to pull of holding matrix pose perfectly which I believe every of you will do this first when you get him! He can pull off this pose with ease! Prime can but his wide chest kinda in the way , but over the head pose is OK!



TRANSFORMATION , FIGURE BUILD and ALT MODE

Another thing that Amaze me so much with this SS86 line is how smart its transformation scheme is. A succesful transformation to make both good looking modes and relatively minimal kibbles.
+ first of you open up his legs and fold up , ala MP kind of folding.
+ straighten up his arms.
+ Unclip his back and his front chest to reveal his car hood inside
+ Rotate the whole carhood with his arms around then clip to the windshield
+ Fold his head into the robot chest
+ Rotate his lowere torso 180 degree. Arrange it nicely.
+ Rotate his whole back alt mode with spoiler 180 degree. Tab in his shins.
+ Rotate the arms to clip on Windshield tab.
+ Bring out the front light hidden in his lower hood section
DONE. So smart, and the alt mode is so so good while still retain most of his curvy feature and roll nicely without issue !

I also have to tell you all that SCREWS ARE BACK! After its long absent now screws are applied througall the body instead of pin , which I believe will make for many fixes and customization! The build is so good, good tolerance and seems to be merge of previous SS and WFC build.
