Took out an old friend today. I got this guy years ago. He's actually one of the first G1 Transformers I've reclaimed since I started collecting again. I meant to spend the afternoon stripping his decals and applying some fresh Toyhax. But his decals are alot nicer than I remember. I might just replace the stickers on the cab.

 

Looks great. Slide that chest piece up and you're there!

 

The chest piece was being a pain to get plugged in, I just popped it in where it would stay, I got it fixed up though

And now for the only other Omnibot I currently own, and my favorite of the two, Camshaft.


Ooohhh, this bot is so slick. The sleek and sexy spy of this particular group, Camshaft is a beautifully silvered Mazda RX-7 Series 2. I had to clean him up a little and gave him new stickers, but this figure has held up wonderfully over the years. Shiny is sexy!

Camshaft cuts a very nice figure of an Autobot. It’s too bad he likes to keep to himself so much. Being a spy has made him a little paranoid and he doesn’t like it when people stare. But how could you not when you see something this damn hot? He looks even better when he accessorizes.


The chrome is still so so so so nice on Camshaft. He’s got really cool weapons. I love the missile on his back. It really provides a nice silhouette of the figure.

Now, I’m aware of the controversy surrounding his name. But for those who aren’t, the particular model of car that Camshaft is, doesn’t actually have a camshaft. The Mazda RX-7 Series used rotary engines and many of them had manual transmission. It would’ve made more sense to name this Omnibot Downshift. Apparently, they were aware of this discrepancy in Japan because the names were actually switched between the two bots for their release over there. Oh well, at least he still looks good.


Now I’ll admit that his alt attack mode is somewhat awkward, but honestly, I kinda like it. It’s definitely got some charm and style to how it’s actually pulled off. It would be less awkward if his hands could retract. But, I still get a James Bond vibe from it. BTW, the firing mechanism for the missile still works in my copy. It’s not that strong, but the spring still works. Bonus!

Overall, I really love this figure. This particular Omnibot lives up to the mythos of the group better than Overdrive. Camshaft just has a powerful presence to him with his strong legs, the robust chest, and all that gorgeous silver and chrome. His transformation is so cool and satisfying. He’s really fun to play with. Camshaft is closer than Overdrive to the vision I had in my head of these bots as a kid. They’re both great figures, but Camshaft is the clear favorite so far. I can’t wait to get a Downshift figure to complete the set. Omnibots are cool!

Yeah, I’ve pretty much accepted that my Junior Headmasters will never have the head guns.

 

Finally got around and re-stickered Reflector & Octane. Now to fix Shockwave's right leg. It's been sticking alot.

 

Indeed. ER Runamuck would make a pretty good Downshift. Some black apps, a new head, and you’re done.

 

How much? I think I paid around 90 dollars for Nightbeat.

 

That reminds me, I still need to loosen up my Kup's feet. They're permanently retracted. And buy a junker Astrotrain while I'm at it.
