The only thing I don’t like is the hollow wrists. Why couldnt they take the time to cover that shit up like they did with Prime. Why?

    Aside from that...

Since I have a personal connection to this figure (I had the original mint in box and lost it) I may still get this.

Did anyone notice that the skis / landing gear from the starfighter mode is on this figure? Wonder if it would be possible to transform this new one in the same way as the Siege version to make a starfighter.

I would have been okay with that version, but those cassettes are absolute garbage.

They've molded it so you can't flip it out. But yeah, that spaceship mold was pretty awful and good grief the only use is to fill up the back of the casette mode

    It wasn't a spaceship, it's a dropship, and a pretty cool one.

The arms fold back instead of down at the shoulder now, and the waist doesn't detach to fold up onto his back. There's no way to transform him into the Siege alt mode.

Soundwave can still be pre-ordered from Amazon Japan for ~$63 shipped to the USA, compared to Walmart's ~$42 after taxes. Amazon Japan has a release date of Feb. 20, 2021 though, so it will be a few months later.

Can I just take a moment to appreciate that this is the first fully G1-centric transforming Soundwave we've had in both modes since 2013's masterpiece? (Titans Return was a boombox with speakers and a base mode, and didn't look fully G1-centric to me. Neither did Blaster, which is another reason I'm excited for this mold being used in this way. We're going to finally get a great G1-esque Blaster.) Prior to that it was Music Label Soundwave in 2007. Seriously.

Given that we will almost certainly never have another G1 accurate Megatron outside of MP, and given that the media these bots were inspired by are so antiquated today that marketing them to anyone but collectors is a risk, I'm going to be appreciative of this release. Forearm kibble be damned.

Titans Return Blaster is fully G1-centric. But rather than be a big, hollow plastic box, Hasbro did something with the innards. I rather appreciate that quite a bit. In fact, it's going to be pretty hard to top TR Blaster.

While imo TR Blaster definitely looked closer to his G1 toy than did TR Soundwave, in bot mode at least, neither of their alt modes did to me. They were clearly G1 inspired and I loved that don't get me wrong... but they both had huge square speakers on each side, something neither originally had. (Blaster's speakers were originally small circular speakers molded into his legs, and his alt mode was similar to Soundwave's in shape and size.)

The comparative accuracy or level of inspiration if you prefer is just night and day imo.

Based on that, I still think we are going to get an even closer iteration of Blaster out of this mold assuming they do it. I expect his head sculpt will be toon inspired rather than toy inspired (which is what I want personally,) or include both options. (Maybe a mask.) And his alt mode will be more compact, with small circular speakers rather than the huge blocks we had for TR (which were there mainly to facilitate base mode.)

Again though this is just my opinion, which is why I was careful to say, "Titans Return was a boombox with speakers and a base mode, and didn't look fully G1-centric to me..."

I like the look of the Universe Classics Ravage (packed in with Hound) a bit more than this one. Wonder if he'll fit?

Nope, the Universe one is (roughly) the size of G1/MP cassettes. The Siege ones are smaller.
