This is messy. Why bother?

 

Easily my most anticipated toy of the year. Target says I could have my pre-order in hand in as soon as two and a half weeks (October 2nd).

 

The lack of paint is horrendous. I'm surprised movie fans are okay with this in comparison to the pitch-perfect accuracy of the G1 and BW lines.

 

Well to be fair the actual movie designs are kind of messy

hm, ambulance mode looks a bit oversized compared to Optimus...

I\'ve see both vehicles in person and don\'t remember Ratchet being as big

You do realize this mpm Ratchet is basically just the SS with extra steps for extra accuracy

 

Ratchet is the only reason I went ahead and bought Ironhide at a discount. Even at that discount, that figure does live up to its reputation. It's garbage.

 

Gotta say, Starscream coming out before Ratchet here just makes Ratchet look like a turd in my eyes. To-date none of the Autobots have even come close to MPM Jazz either.

 

Needs extra bars on the brush guard, going over the front of the hood. And paint apps. But I love the separate, painted rescue tools on the roof. Painting those to look halfway decent on other Ratchet figs has always been virtually impossible for me.

Scale looks right on with Bee and Jazz, but not OP or Ironhide. He will go better with my OSKO versions. Mine's already pre-ordered from Target. Yum.

Just as the MPM lime was taking off with great designs..... this comes along....

 

I’m hoping I like his scaling next to osko prime and osko ironhide.

Getting sick of buying multiple sizes of figures because of this mess. I’d prefer to just pick up one official of this guy and call it done. I’ve never liked ratchet much anyhow. Studio series was the first toy of him i’ve even picked up (it was a lot of fun to paint). This will be my second.

 

Keeping in mind this is TonTon, and so there may be stuff in the transformation he's doing wrong...

This actually looks quite good. Maybe a little sparse on some paint apps. But I really love the robot mode when all is said and done. My only real grip is the way the roll bar bits stick out of the backpack, and it looks like, if that's the correct transformation, that there might be room for some creative mistransformation to fix it. We'll need to see on that one, though.

If they told me they were going to do the DotM deco I'd wait for it, as it's the superior Ratchet. But I'm satisfied. He doesn't look Jazz good, but Jazz is king of the MPM mountain. The bot mode isn't as stupendous as Screamer, but his alt mode isn't completely trashed by kibble either. If he's QC free, he's almost certainly better than Ironhide (Man, I love the robot mode on Ironhide, particularly with the add on kit that locks the shoulders, but getting him into truck mode is a STRUGGLE).

He looks like the best film Ratchet we've ever gotten. Which, admittedly, is not a high bar. But it's the first time I can remember looking forward to a Ratchet figure, so they must be doing something right.

 

Oh it's been discussed. There is a big price difference that accounts for the second tier paint and engineering.

 

I'd rather spend an extra 5-10 bucks on paints and fix it up myself than pay an extra $100 on sloppy thick paint that chips off when you touch it.
