No they aren't you idiot. these are two seperate with the former existing long before the latter. if anything it more of a reference, like how in some continuity they reference starscream and jetfire friendship from the g1 cartoon or Skybyte haikus.

My personal theory, they're actually like catfish barbels, with extra sensors.
Scourge has them as a tracker.
Alpha trion has massive ones, to increase his understanding of his environment
It's just like how some bots have antennae and some don't

Ultra Magnus: "Never say IF in battle"

Also Ultra Magnus one page earlier: "If my spark is extinguished today...."

Shouldn't that be "When my spark is extinguished" then, Magnus?

I already figured out my folly in connecting the two so you're a bit late. Even still both medias do some similarities that convinces me they are related. The comics start on the eve of Decepticon Declaration day while the show is in the final days of the war. Both rely heavily on toy-focused designs. They're connecting top-billing characters right out the gate instead of introducing them to each other. Point is if they arent he same continuity they still "feel" connected.

I was to "direct" in my connection with the two. Even if they arent in the exact same continuity (they do have differences that separate them) they still wreak as if they're connected. I'm getting "Aligned" vibes if it makes it easy to get my point.

    Hoooooooooold up.

    2.2 Megacycles.

Didn\'t they say somewhere that one megacycle is basically a thousand years? So this fabled Threefold Spark War, that already happened in the past before the actual Autobot Decepticon War, was only 2,200 years ago? Damn that\'s extremely recent by Transformers standards. Even Bayformers was a little older at over 10,000 years or something like that.

Yeah, they said the war was the reason why Cybertron has major cities rather than being completely covered in them is because of the war, so it being only 2.2 thousand years ago for them helps explain why they're still rebuilding.

My assumption was that it was 2.2 thousand years from modern day Earth, or am I wrong and its millions of years ago like normal?

My guess is that it's still the few thousand or million years since modern day, but they haven't said exactly "when" this all takes place, so it's possible.

The way I look at it the Netflix series is set on the last day of the battle for cybertron and the IDW2 continuity is set perhaps thousands of years before that but in the same continuity....

Maybe. I woukd like to see a more unified story between the three media's outside of nods and winks and vague references etc

    Ebay:
That cover makes it seems like Ratbat is Megatron's headphones. :D
They finally stopped using their own OCs it seems, though. Chainclaw, Grotusque, Bumblejumper... lot of obscure TFs. Subsea too, he was in that one Marvel UK Tailgate story.

I remember reading a comment ages back that said these comics were more interesting to read as a whole and not individually. I gave it a try and frankly I do agree. But that is the problem I do not want to have to read them like that because if each issue relies to heavily on stretching out a story that could happen in a single issue over five issues then most of us will find the pacing pretty jarring and not that engaging. The fact that this is a prequel story set on Cybertron which seems like a pretty burnt out concept does not seem to help either. I am actually seriously considering learning how to write stories  so at least that way I can get the \"Bold New Era\" story I wanted after the previous continuity ended. Perhaps something Beast Wars related would be good. My only real interest at the moment is in the Galaxies stories and the crossovers which may seem over done to some but I just think their good fun, ironically  Secerets and Lies which is also a prequel story I have actually quite enjoyed so maybe it is  just a matter of the writing style that is the problem. The only things that has got me partially intrigued for the future is the apparent IDW Beast Wars comic series that John Barber teased earlier this year.

How is this a prequel story if nothing else has happened after it in this continuity yet?

I'm guessing they just mean it's a "before the war" story.
It's a pretty different world space than we're used to, I'll give them that, but when you know eventually prime leads the Autobots and Megatron leads the decepticons, and they'll be doing that old song and dance, some of the excitement is lost.
I think one of the reasons some people liked the middle era idw stuff is because it asked "what happens when the war is over" which we don't get to see too often.
