I saw a post in a private group on Facebook in which it was stated that it was more or less "known" behind the scenes that at least were, or they've currently been having trouble paying suppliers and that's part of the reason they're not fulfilling orders, both now and before the pandemic. Whether or not that's true or confirmed is still up in the air, but it does seem to line up/match what's going on here. (I personally don't know, I'm just saying what I've read.) The investors, the crazy purchases, the lack of order fulfillment, etc. It's definitely sounding more and more like a Ponzi Scheme that's starting to unravel quite a bit as time goes on.

Not sure what's really going on behind the scenes, but it must be pretty dang ugly. I'm not sure what it is about that store, but both the original owner and now this team can't run the place to save a life. It's incredible how awful it's been in anyone's hands.

    EDIT: Added one bit.

It could be because of the different ways there are to file. When I filed last week I had the option to post a public comment/complaint or to file the full dispute complaint. I wanted to make sure something got done so I went for the dispute. They probably don’t post those publicly (though they should). Or maybe it takes them a long time to post things.

In any case, I’m glad to be done with them and the fact they keep using COVID as an excuse for their bad practices just makes them even more heinous. Covid isn’t responsible for their abysmal customer service practices, poor order management interface and deceptive ads.

You can also pay to hide your negative BBB ratings. BBB isn't the organization it used to be but it's something.

Oh now that is just some straight up Bull!!!! Really! Trying to use Covid-19 as an excuse as to why they are posting items as "In Stock" that they don't even have in the freaking shop!!!! Did Covid-19 also make them forget what they actually have on hand!!!! WTF is wrong with them!!! Ohhhh yeah they must be really pissing people off, and now their bottem line is starting to reflect it!!!! Yes! Keep up the good work and continue to boycott this company, they must really be hurting to go this low! At this point better not give them anymore debit or credit card info! Because they may start selling it to hackers, the black markets, and scammers to try and recoup their losses!!! You have been warned!

Wish I had read this thread before ordering...ordered Scorponok and couple of other "in stock" items in the middle of August...sent complaint email about shipping about 10 days later. We are now almost through 1/3 of September and no updates after the mass email they put out about turning the corner and getting closer to "normal" operations. I can see pretty clearly that this same behavior was the norm before COVID-19.

I also collect Mythic Legions and the Four Horsemen use them for distribution now, which means stuff takes a month+ to send out and arrives without any kind of tracking or notifications. One of the worst run companies I've come across...

Going to have to issue chargebacks now.

Absolutely terrible experience. These guys are f'n crooks.

I ordered a "HOT OFF THE TRUCK" item in July. They claimed to have Skylynx in stock, so I went ahead and ordered. When I see "HOT OFF THE TRUCK" that means the item is just in, not a pre-order. I order pre-orders from all kinds of places and it works the same way everywhere - if its a pre-order they don't take your money until its ready to ship. But if you order an instock item, they charge immediately.

So as you can expect, I ordered this and the money was taken out immediately, and then the excuses began.
I was patient for 3 months waiting for this item and I got the form letters about being short staffed and how the supply lines are all messed up from Covid, I get it.
But I would still write them and ask if there was a status update. They would always write back in about a day and say "We expect this item next week".

Now I see that it is widely available (Amazon even has it), so I wrote them and simply asked for a refund because it seems so unclear when their stocks will arrive.
    Silence.
I wrote again...and again...and again. Very politely stating that I would like to process this refund immediately as I am no longer interested in waiting for such a vague amount of time when they SAID THE ITEM WAS IN STOCK WHEN I ORDERED. Again, this was not a pre-order situation (which I would be used to waiting for).

I have not gotten a single reply in 2 weeks when they used to reply in a day. They are ignoring me.
And then I went to their yelp....
    https://www.yelp.com/biz/megalopolis-city-of-collectibles-south-salt-lake?osq=megalopolis

    Dammit.
What do I see? Tons of people saying the EXACT same thing. Tons of communication with them, but the minute you want a refund they just clam up and won't write you. You can't call, no one picks up. You can't leave a message, they tell you to email them. So this is what I am left with. 100.00 gone, and a company that has completely taken my money and run. Unbelievable.

So I did what any sane person would do and I disputed my charge with my bank. I have my money back already via a credit from my bank pending investigation. So thankfully I am on the other end of this with no problems, but like hell will I do anything other than share how absolutely unprofessional this company is.

I'm patient and I would take most any excuses as real, but the minute you take my money and ignore me? Hell no.

I've placed probably 8 - 10 orders with Megalopolis dating to last year. I've had pretty good luck - most orders shipped out within a week or so, as long as I sent them an email.

However, with some orders, there would be an item missing and I would need to tell them so they could credit me. Which means that they would have kept my money if I didn't tell them - definitely shady.

But now I'm done with them - my last order took 5 weeks to ship, and I emailed them weekly for updates. I was pretty close to filing a chargeback.

Like some others here, I was just re-added to their email list without my permission. I suspect that they are in the death spiral - not enough money, using current orders to fulfill older orders, etc. They're now running a Scratch n' Dent Sale probably to raise some short-term funds.

There was a great thread on thefwoosh from the owner of DorksideToys about his challenges getting established in the toys and collectibles business, and the dire financial toll until he figured out how to turn a consistent profit. It seems that the owners of Megalopolis need to rethink things or close it down.

$%&* I wish I'd googled them two weeks ago. Cause this happened to me. I've basically wanted Skorponok since I was seven, so the Titans Return figures is like a dream come true. But it's outside the range of things I can just buy price wise. So all my friends were going to chip in for my Birthday. Two weeks ago when we got togehter we just idely started searching for Skorpy. And EVERYONE was sold out or on pre-order. BBTS, Amazon, Hasbro Pulse, Entertainment Earth, all the guys with links on TFW's front page... So we started getting pretty worried. One of my friends found it listed on Megalopolis, decided to go ahead and get it ordered. After a week and a half, I asked him about it, and he decided to see if he could get in contact with them. Now stop me if this sounds familier, because they haven't responded, and the payment had been withdrawn. Pretty much any reputible store will not charge you unless they have shipped the item. He's told me if I find it elsewhere I can order it myself, he'll reimburse me, and try to get a refund/dispute it. I was thinking of waiting until Monday to start looking, but this is looking like there's no point. So great going Megalopolis toys, you screwed three people over in one go.

So here's a problem to be aware of...if you ask for a refund (even if you haven't gotten your item after a month), their customer service will tell you that they do not cancel and refund under ANY circumstances for in-stock (!!!! wtf) product. You can return it if you wish and be charged a 15% restocking fee. This is the true sign something is wrong there...if it's in-stock, just ship it to me! All the nonsense they are pushing about UPS denying them pickups (there's other carriers to use??) and being understaffed (hire some more people! plenty of people looking for work out there!) - c'mon, we are 6 months into this pandemic, everyone else has figured it out. Late by a week? Sure, I understand. I have been able to order from BBTS, Dorkside, Big Boy Collectibles and CHINA of all places (taobao, multiple times) and had product received within 2 weeks. 4,5,6 weeks? Months? That's not right. Their blast from August 31st said they had "fixed the issues" and the speed of service would be remedied in September. September is 1/3 over and no changes.

They are asking their customers to be patient and flexible due to "extraordinary circumstances", but won't move 1 degree on their refund/cancellation policies - that tells you something is amuck and not right. Holding customers' money for 1-2 months in this case is highly suspicious - these aren't preorders, they are "in-stock" items! I think everyone has their suspicions here on what's going on - what does your gut tell you? I charged back a couple of days ago and my CC company investigated and sided with me instantly. Never again...

Stumbled onto this forum after trying to find more info on this place. I'm about 5 weeks deep on an order for some Marvel Legends that were on sale - nothing too hot, I imagine they were trying to clearance them out. Now when I click the items in my order, the majority of them lead to 'page not found', which makes me think they're out of stock and not coming back.

I sent an email about 3 weeks ago, and was met with a pretty prompt apology for the delay. I've sent another one today; if I don't have a solid time frame to expect my shipment, I'll be filing a dispute. It's bad enough that they charged me immediately, I'll be damned if I'm going to lose 15% on a restocking fee for something they don't even have.

I’m the Creative Director for Mega and oversee the product designs of our lines and marketing and such.

There’s a lot of various comments so hopefully I can just cover all of this- no our business is not in trouble or having issues with supply. We just made the Inc 5000 for fastest growing companies in the US.

What IS accurate, is our shipping and customer service have been unacceptable. I can explain all the ins and outs of covid and how that’s been so disruptive, but ultimately it’s our job to find solutions and we are aware it’s been way too slow with poor updates.

We are getting close to caught up on our delayed orders, and more importantly are in the process of setting up an entirely new shipping network with our partners at shipbob that will allow same day shipping from multiple locations for faster speeds and better rates. This is onboarding now. They will also manage the inventory in real time for 100% accuracy.

We are also working with a customer service company to integrate and manage service.

We know where we’re experts and where we aren’t, and we know where we have failed to adapt to our growth and the covid challenges. We’re going to let these experts handle these things for us so we can give collectors the service the deserve.

We will also be offering substantial discounts once onboarding is complete to anyone affected by delays to experience the improvements and be compensated for the hassles.

The world is a tough place right now. We haven’t kept up. We own it. We’re fixing it. And we appreciate everyone’s feedback that has helped us find solutions.

Wishing everyone health and happy collecting.

While a formal reply after all this time is nice and all, I will say that as a former customer whose business your company has irrevocably lost I find it vaguely insulting to blame your company's long pattern of shortcomings and outright ripping people off on a recent event (covid) while the issues have been ongoing for almost two years at this point. No one needs to hire a 3rd party customer service company to realize that it is maybe problematic to list items as in stock before actually having them in stock, or charging BS "restocking fees" to refund unsatisfied customers' money to them.
