I actually really like the first one. Colors are weird but at least now he actually kinda looks like Megatron.

 

Yeah, he was trying to shift it back a bit to his G1 helmet.

"In TF2 Megatron got half of his head blown off so in TF3 I explored the idea of a helmet or armor that could cover his damage. I thought it might be an excuse to introduce more of his classic look. Eventually it was decided to just have his damage exposed to add to his broken down look."

Yeah, same. I've noticed in a lot of these concepts that Josh Nizzi actually tried to make these designs more like "Transformers". For example, you can see with the original Knight designs, they were more aligned with the rest of the original Bayverse designs. And with this Megs, it would have been a pretty good way of introducing the bucket head. It's a shame some exec (probably Bay) pushed for worse ideas.

 

While I think that a bucket head look would have been neat, and I think TLK did it better, I am glad it kept the same head design from the first two films. I have always loved the forehead crest thing this one had and I always thought it sort of had a sort of bucket head shape to it anyways. While neat concepts, I am glad we just got a damaged regular Movie Megatron head.

I seriously dig Nizzi's helmet concept, and appreciate him actively TRYING to make him look more like Megatron.

I wish we got to see the rest of Nizzi's Generation One / Superior designs, because it's clear he understands what makes each character who they are, while also making them look like they'd fit more in a live action setting without radically changing them so much they may as well be a new character.

 

Yeah, I think Nizzi predicted the Bayverse-G1 hybrid aesthetic used in Bumblebee.

However, I don't think the helmet would have worked for DOTM Megatron - because we need to see his exposed wound to make us feel kind of sorry for him. That's what the Namibia scene was about - he isn't a powerful, conquering tyrant any more. He's lost most of his army, his home planet and his strength - the plan to bring Sentinel and the pillars back is really a last-ditch effort.

There's no need to sacrifice that idea for pointless fanservice.

 

Eh, they could have also just made it so that Megatron uses this helmet to cover up his wounds. It would basically take upon the same role as the tarp he had in the DOTM so the message wouldn't have really changed there. You don't need to have a big open wound to convey that he's been beaten. Having a helmet would be clear enough that he's basically trying to hide something not so great.

The concept art pre-hot rod is pretty neat, although I think I like the final version in the movie better, with its less humanoid face and more visible alt. mode kibble.

The Megatron helmets are neat to see, but again I like what we got in the movie better. I really don't like the helmets that are flat on top (it really clashes with movie Megatron's spiky look), but the one with the two spikes in the back and the crest on his forehead is pretty cool.

 

Such concepts were revealed and not implemented. Especially with this Megatron`s helmet!

 

Damn, Skids sure got a facelift.

 

Maybe because I haven't watched TF5 in a while, was it ever explained how Gavli became Megatron again, or is that an event that we are just going to let slide? Not sure if there was any fiction between the two movies, I am not much of a reader.

 

Looks rather like TFP Megatron.

If they wanted to earn bonus points, could have made the helmet black.
