Biggest? Okay. But far from all. You've also got Burroughs in there, too, for example... who Lucas also stole from (both directly and indirectly through Raymond). You can't just pretend the list stops there. Orwell, Huxley, Dick, etc. Never mind the stuff that's pure archetype of which ownership can be claimed by nobody. There's a reason Lucas brings up Campbell every 5 seconds besides being a convenient excuse for stealing from other sources (although that may be the main reason). But also because it's kind of true.
The archetype stuff is a direct reference to Campbell and jung, and the former of whom was in vogue at the time of Herbert's writing and who he helped popularised (so that Lucas could go on and skim off the top). Lucas' limp remix of the arguably deranged themes of dune (tendency toward fascism in human societies, eugenic space wizards) in no way resembles how Herbert utilised Burroughs' space opera sword and scifi stuff (which extends almost exclusively to...sword fighting in space). The more interesting conversation is the dialogue between the foundation series and dune, where the two authors are actively speaking to each other about their shared themes.
I'm sure it will be fine and everything, but I was almost getting Hayden Christensen Anakin vibes there.
The trailer according to Reddit will release in about two hours. But there will be more news afterwards.
That looks every bit the sweeping space opera across the beautiful but barren desertland that is the tale of Paul Atreides. It's not so colorful or showy as previous adaptations, but Villeneuve has the talent of keeping his VFX and visuals beautiful but simple, and his aesthetic IMO greatly benefits this tale.
Looks great. But I notice they changed the word 'jihad' to 'crusade'. In a way, I get the studio's fear, but in another way, it's unfortunate.
It's been a long time since we've seen this kind of "meant to be" kismet match-up in way of director-to-film. I can't think of anyone more suited to tackling something like Dune than Villeneuve. Trailer looks exactly like everything I expected - in a good way, obviously.
I’m intrigued. The David Lynch one was a mixed bag and is memorable for its own production design. With this one, I’m definitely picking up a more epic vibe.
awesome!!! now to decide: is it worth going to the theater for - and risk someone sneezing on me.... UHG 2020
I am little concerned if this hasn’t all been shot at once and he doesn’t get through the first book. My biggest concern right now is going back and shooting the second half. I can’t confirm if it’s all been done or not.
...So excited to finally have ... potentially have an amazing adaptation of Dune. I agree if Dune is being done as a 2 part event then part 2 has to be Dune Messiah.
No mean this movie doesn’t even cover the whole first book. My understanding is this was always to be a two-part movie of just Dune. I don’t think Fayd is even in this and if he is... he’s a reveal at the end. That’s what I’m saying.
