would it be possible for someone to fix the servers for FOC and WFC?

(just thought i'd post a rant here.)

...so i've been really triggered recently with the servers being shut down for this game, i never played on them much but i loved how you could customize your character however you wanted. i also loved Escalation aswell, both of those modes being gone really kills the games for me, as i've beaten it multiple times, it's a great game but its now missing half its content...

the only way i can see us getting our servers back is if we do it ourselves imo. i really hope someone creates a fan made server someday (similar to Halo 2: Project Cartographer.)

if i knew how i'd do it myself. but i sadly do not. so if any talented modder sees this. please make this possible. i'd love to play FOC online again (and maybe even WFC, since i never played that)

I've been pretty upset about it too, especially since I had JUST PURCHASED THE GAMES AFTER YEARS OF WANTING TO PLAY THEM...

Anyway... I think the only way would be if people did a third-party server similar to it, but idk exactly how it would work

I think if something like XLink Kai was created, we can have the servers up and running again. But, it seems a little difficult to do now and we probably won't have custom servers until the very distant future, especially when the games are multiplatform.
The TF games don't have big communities so it might be a long wait.

that's awesome dude. i refuse to die until i get to play this game online again, with my old characters. i will wait for an eternity if i must, take your time

i could try and do it myself. provided i have the knowledge to do so, Xlink Kai will be a good starting point though. i'll look into it and see if i can make the game online again. (if you have any info to help it would be much appreciated. two minds are better than one)

i just want to play with my characters again :(

If you wanna learn about Xlink Kai check out this video:

Sadly, the way Xlink Kai works is by tricking the Xbox it's in a LAN party, basically the Xbox thinks multiple consoles are connected through a wired adapter. I was told WFC had a scrapped local multiplayer mode, so if it's possible, we can enable it and trick the game into believing it's being played locally. FOC lacks this, though. It would probably be very difficult to do...
Is there a game out there without LAN, we offline servers, that had it's online mode enabled by fans?

i think we need someone to extract the source code of WFC/FOC and try to remake the servers using a plugin IDK

Well, kinda. We had people bring the online of the Nintendo DS, OG Xbox, Dreamcast and Wii back online. Though, that's probably because it's all one server. So the source code might be necessary.

Who knows, maybe someone at High Moon can leak it to the public!

I'd imagine someone would get into big trouble for that though. Even if Activision doesn't own the TF license anymore, it's still Hasbro's property of Transformers. A source code would be nice yeah, some games definitely benefited better from having a source code released to the public, but this is still an decade old engine version of Unreal that doesn't receive any support anymore. Probably requiring a month or two of full knowledge of how the engine entirely works. But hey, alot of source codes for really old games this year have been leaked so it might not be entirely out of the thought.

I think the least Hasbro could do now is just hire a reverse engineer company like Bluepoint games and re-code the game to connect to entirely different servers since it's their games still. There's no server browser at all within the TF games for fans to make custom servers for, and that has been problematic these past few months which is why we haven't seen anyone make some custom server for people to play again.

Yeah, they can pull a Star Wars Battlefront 2 on PC and relaunch the servers even after they were discontinued! It's cool they released the source code.

I think what gets me most angry about this is that, war for cybertron and fall of cybertron are pier to pier online games. Meaning the only thing the server is doing is just getting player data and connecting you to another guys xbox/ps3/or pc. It's even possible re-enable multiplayer games because it's already coded into the game. So compared to rebuilding WOW or Lego Universe all you have to do is crack open the code and make a server that works with it. Alternatively we do something like those masochists who rebuilt super mario 64.

I think it's bullshit that you can't even do co-op or escalation (escalation for both games) offline or a private session. I'm on PC, is it like this for anyone else? You mean to tell me even though I'm hosting a game for my friends it still runs off Activision's servers too? Terrible foresight on their part, but it's like like foresight and planning are allowed in game-dev-land ESPECIALLY one as scummy as Activision

Yeah whoever owns the source code if it's Hasbro or Activision, leak all that shit out. Someone will take up the challenge and get servers working, atleast on PC. Probably would go through a service like GameRanger.

On consoles, there is no local multiplayer. I was told there was a scrapped split screen mode, but I dunno if it can be enabled.
Hasbro lost Activision's trust, and they don't give a shit about licensed games anymore. Which is sad cause we could of saw a WFC 3. Hasbro does still have an interest in TF games, but I don't see us getting another triple AAA game for another long time.
As for the source code, I'd totally imagine Hasbro purchasing the servers and rereleasing them.

I doubt we would've ever saw a true FOC sequel without HMS though. In Hasbro's perspective: ROTDS "completes" the Cybertron trilogy despite being a bad movie game, and TFP is the "sequel" to FOC despite a giant looming gap of how so-so happened and the designs being completely different.

In High Moon's perspective the third game would've been about "the journey" and how after they fell into the portal, it didn't lead to Earth afterwards but instead dropped them into an unknown point in the galaxy. But that's just my assumption based on this story roadmap that was released sometime after FOC came out.

I always thought ROTF's MP was P2P. I don't know much about these things, but imo it shouldn't be that hard to make a 'hack' for it. In fact, I think I used to use Hamachi or Tunngle, but that was a long time ago and I didn't really know what I was doing. I hope we can figure something out! (SWBF2 MP Lasted 15 years! So can ROTF, FOC, AND WFC!)

I went to play wfc and foc on my 360 2 years back to find all the servers down came in here and recent posts confirmed my suspicions but then last year I gave it another go and the servers were back working.
So I enjoyed playing escalation on both again regularly.

Tried again last night first time in ages to find servers are off again and now this thread confirms my suspicions damit.
I know it's a ten year old game now but in my opinion Is still the best transformers game to date, the gameplay is still smooth and enjoyable, theres nothing else out or coming out with what wfc had to offer. Come on Hasbro/Activition/highmoon sort it out!
If you dont want to fix it let the players have the power to keep this legend of a game going
