Same. I started into TFs again about two years ago. The conversations are borderline hilarious, in retrospect.

"Oh, you can tighten that up with future."
    "What's future?"
"It's a floor polish, but it might not be called that anymore."
    * Does hours of online research and finds it's now Pledge Floor Gloss *
    71TslQVmLoL._AC_SX425_.jpg

    "Is this it?"
"Yeah, that looks like what I have."

Wait a damn minute...so you KNEW it was called Pledge this whole time and you're still telling people to buy future?!? MOTHER F---

Same here! Not to mention it's changed a couple of times since then. Mine was Pledge Floor Finish. I think it's still using that name.

The reason floor polish works to tighten joints is due to the acrylic ingredient. So why not just use acrylic clear coat? Floor polish has a diluted amount of acrylic whereas clear coat is almost 100 percent acrylic?

Agreed. As I said above, I prefer to use acrylic clear coat. Works better, requires less coats, and dries faster

Is this close to the tape, mentioned above?

Close to plumbers/PTFE tape? No, not even a little. That's more like gaffa tape, but I wouldn't want to have that exposed material backing rubbing since it'll generate a lot of heat during movement which could deform the joint over time.

You should be able to pick up the mentioned tape at any hardware supply place. It's used pretty much anywhere a thread needs to make an air-tight seal - plumbing or pneumatic (air) tools primarily. It's also not adhesive-backed, so removing it later won't be a problem at all (it relies strictly on contact pressure to stay in place).

Where can you buy pure acrylic clear coat? Is that the acrylic varnish I see on amazon?

Model paints (Tamiya and the likes) will do a straight up clear acrylic. Water-based poly (same basic thing as acrylic varnish) should be OK but you'll want to make sure of it.

Thanks, I’m pretty new to the hobby so I’ve never heard of Tamiya (never did any model kits). Do you have a link you could recommend? I see some Tamiya products on Amazon but most are sprays paints.

Nah, thats some hefty heavy duty tape... hockey tape (@SMOG just call it what it is) is a fabric tape with grip designed for... well, grip.

Electrical tape will give you more of a desired effect, as you twist and turn, it twists and turns... but hockey tape will stay put on one end (sticky) and the other end will have mad friction (grip side)... its what its made for.

Do i recommend it on ball joints... nah.

Use the "future" or superglue technique, but if you want something less invasive and less permanent... use paper.

Hold a sheet of paper over the ball joint, push the ball head into the joint over the head. Voila... instant fix. And the paper will disintegrate before the joints, making it easy to reapply.

But what do i know... gaigins are barbarians.

Upscaled simplified version of a legends-size based on IDW Cybertronian Prowl, I believe.

:lol  Well, now I know. And knowing is... at least part of the battle.

And is this also what lazy Games Workshop modellers use for dipping?

Is Futu-- er, PLEDGE any better/worse than nail polish? I mean, in terms of hardness and ease-of-use?

I don't know what that tape is. Looks like very very thick... band-aid material?

Hockey tape is usually about as wide as your thumb, and black (though it comes in other colours). It's reasonably thin, but has a textured fabric backing that makes it easy to grip (which is why it's often used for hockey stick handles, but also on the blade). I've found it's handy to have around for various reasons, and it works better for tightening joints than other kinds of tape... but I mostly use nail polish for balljoints. The tape gets used here and there for special cases. I've never tried plumbers tape, but it seems like it would be good. Plumbers tape just sort of feels like a thin strip of grippy latex that you can wrap around things, and it tends to stay in place (and be water-tight)

Innnnnteresting! I've never seen these! If they're 1:1 or larger, I'd probably be interested in these (as long as they aren't too simplified).
