Gorgeous. And yeah, that really is a much more intense level of retooling than I expected/hoped for. I would've been fine with just head and shoulders, but they've gone far beyond.
Are we sure this mould wasn't originally meant for him? Looks infinitely better than Calidus. Not perfect, given the nature of the mould, but I'm liking him much more than his predecessor.
The base body design was actually intended for Cassy Sark's rendition of Tarn... Thank god that didn't happen, but that's why the mold has the rear wheels embedded in the shoulders in such a visible manner.
It's just the photo. The toy's neck is set fairly far back from the chest, so it gets obscured by the low viewing angle. The neck is perfectly proportional on the previous Calidus and Nitro versions of the mold.
I totally forgot about that! MMC sometimes make some... 'interesting' design decisions, but I'm thankful they had the good sense to rework that. I just wish they'd have scrapped that design entirely so we could have skinny, stylish Roddy in all his glory. Alas, I'm sure Iron Factory will get around to him eventually.
I never bought Calidus because of my preference for SXS Hot Flame. However, the mold works far better for Getaway. It will be nice to finally acquire it.
I think they still wanted to make use of Cassy's design work in some form because they probably still paid him for his time. I'm glad they had the sense to gradually phase him out of their plans, though. His dated design sensibilities were becoming a liability.
Another weird carry-over from Cassy Sark's CAD work. Tarn's the one with the pointed pelvis. The design was modified slightly to better match Rodimus' details, but the overall shape didn't change.
The headsculpt on this one is really impressive at least the color work and the nature of Getaway's design helps in this case, as its way less noticeable.
It's kind weird how Getaway's head design is like, the blandest thing conceptually (pretty much the most nondescript face plate to ever exist), and yet everything somehow comes together in a very unique and distinctive way that the design is unmistakable.
for sure. it normally has this really flat smoothness to the faceplate that no other character really has, especially since so many faceplated characters still have visible noses (or at least some sort of separation between the mask part and the face underneath). That combined with the shape of the eyes/brow makes it really unique.
Chromedome, Rewind, Prime and now this. You guys are on fire. Now would also be a good time to reveal a Ratchet...
Way more interested in this mold as Getaway than Rodimus. Still way out of scale from the rest of my Lost Light stuff, though...
