Hmm...a 4K Switch seems really unlikely. I could be wrong - I'm very out of the loop on what's happening at Nintendo these days.

But from my POV there's really no need for it, given how well the Switch is still selling and at this point in time, simply upgrading everything is really problematic in terms of docked/undocked parity as well as supporting features from other developers. We're currently at a stage where developers are prepping to support ray-tracing as their main/only rendering pipeline and the last mobile chip from Nvidia doesn't support this fully in hardware. And it's not as if developers are going to keep their old rasterisation based tech around - once they adopt ray-tracing, they'll just abandon rasterisation as the cost to maintain would pretty high.

With such a massive shift in technologies happening, not to mention limitations in game sizes and the resulting content quality issues; I just don't see the motivation for Nintendo to spend money on a really expensive upgrade, where developers will most likely refrain from releasing a game that runs exclusively on the newer hardware due to market share.

Yeah I have to agree with ByteBack personally. I think it's more likely, if any sort of "Switch Pro" happens, to be an iterative refresh with a better display and improved touchscreen, than a massive performance upgrade. Maybe an iterative improvement to performance, but I think 4K would be pushing it for what is, essentially, a mobile device.

Now, on the other hand, Nintendo eventually launching their own streaming platform akin to XCloud that promises "4K" someday? Bundled with Nintendo online to drive subscriptions? That I can see. I really do think the next ten years or so are going to take people by surprise in terms of just how much emphasis is put on digital and streaming vs traditional packaged goods models of platform rollouts. Consoles will resemble smart phone plans more and more imho. Tiered subscription services, with traditional high end new hardware being the "premium" models that cost much more, with lower end offerings and monthly subscription plans available for everyone else.

Also... yeah, wow, we are definitely in an era of Nintendo just saying screw it and dropping things out of nowhere with no warning lol. I kind of like it, but I don't necessarily think it bodes well for a traditional "full" Direct anytime soon. I hope I'm wrong, but I'll happily take what we're getting so far. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2! I'll take it! Lol. Also wow holy crap a mainstream boxing game! Of any kind! I wasn't sure we'd ever see anymore of those :lol .

I was waiting for @ByteBack to chime in. Good info thanks.

So would the move to ray-tracing impact availability for new releases on the current switch?

Agree with @AnonymousDwell etc - I don't see the need for 4K on it, particularly when not docked. The heat and power consumption would be a pretty major problem, IMO.

Not sure where to go exactly with an upgraded unit. Maybe something that does real 1080P docked and handheld, and has a slightly larger premium screen? A smaller bezel would be good - allow more room for screen while keeping the size down, and it would look sleeker. Also more built in storage.

That No Straight Roads game looks cool. Here's a part from one of the rap battles in the game.

Also, I wanna mention I got my Joycons back from Nintendo today! I am not sure if it fixes the whole Joycon drift problem from last year, so... take this with a grain of salt. HOPEFULLY they are the latest factory models.
Nintendo, actually replaced them instead of repairing my old ones. Which, I am fine with. I tested out the control sticks and they work wonderfully.

Delayed to Spring 2021, but still coming to Switch!

Now show us Doom Eternal on Switch finally, Id/Panic Button. :lol

Also, some juicy Pikmin 3 footage.

I'm not sure - for cross platform titles, especially those pushing the envelope, it would probably make their release on Switch less of a certainty. I guess it really depends how quickly people adopt new version of their engines, especially those smaller devs using Unity and UE.

It could be that we'll see a lot of titles with mobile releases using a sort of Frankenstein approach with a mix of mobile code / downscaled console assets.

So does anyone own any shooters on Switch like Bioshock, Crysis or Doom 3? Cause I plan on buying them eventually.

Why did gamexplain spend time and money to make a intro to a game that's just a rumor?

Do they know something we don't? How strange.

    We couldn't do this before?

I had no idea that was the case. Glad they changed that.

i never use my joycons by themselves, but i do use them together as the big controller. whenever i do that they'll take control from me or stop working totally. is that drift or is that another issue?

The controls things is most likely drift, the not working thing I got no idea, dead batteries I assume?
If you wanna fix any of your Switch accessories use this, I highly recommend it.

    Question:
Is there any game anyone wants to see on the Switch? I would love to see the Batman Arkham games come to the Switch.

At least the Mario collection rumor is something we can confirm or deny in the next couple of days one way or another lol. Those are my favorite rumors; the ones with short deadlines. A sort of 3D "All Stars" would be really cool though I have to admit. I'd be all over that. If they do indeed do it, I kind of hope they'll just call it Super Mario All Stars 2, and release All Stars on Nintendo Online alongside it. (As far as I can tell, we don't have the All Stars version of SMB yet, which I always thought was cool back in the day lol. One of the first games to really feel like a "remaster" to me for its time.)

If true sounds like the mario collection was planned for this month but thanks to the virus will now be oct or nov. Mario 3d world if true has been delayed till next year. (was going to be the oct title.)

Virus really messed up marios birthday.
