T30 Ratrap is good, but the rubbery joint kills my mood to actually fiddle with it. The OG is outdated... kinda. It transform just fine, but getting the weapon out kills my nail. So this one is a really really nice welcome addition <3 just hoping that the weapon can be stored on his rat mode.
Price, availability, Playability... MP is good yes, but it's expensive, and you can't really find it in just any toy store compared to Core class. Also, MP is not really good for playability. I'm talking about transforming while fiddling on desk, or kids playing with it. On the other hand, MP is a very good display piece. Not to mention that MP has limited selection right now... Even then, if we're going back to the very basic reason, there's no reason to not have more than one show accurate lines, tbh.
Rattrap is probably my favourite character from my favourite iteration of Transformers. This'll do quite nicely! The only real complains I have are the feet, which are tolerable, and a lack of paint on the nose and tail (easily remedied). I love the direction of more "realistic" beast modes, since that's throwing a bone to the original concept of Beast Wars, rather than just the show, which MP's are knocking out of the park anyway. It does look like this Rattrap is roughly the same size as the original, so it'll hopefully be nostalgic as hell to handle too.
how is this different from the Generations Rattrap...looks the same but then I am not too familiar with Beast Wars. I dont have the nostalgic connection with that show like some of you here.
BW is one of my fave corners of the franchise, so the news of Kingdom figures is very welcome. When the show originally aired I was in college and didn't have the budget or time to do much collecting. I remember watching the show and finding it to be more sophisticated than I expected. Now Beast Wars is probably my primary area of collecting, although I do pick up some fav characters from other eras from time to time. In fact, my most recent purchases, via eBay, have been: Wolfang, K-9, Snapper, Iguanas, Amordillo, Sonar, and Transmetal Cybershark. I have the T30 version of Rattrap (along with T30 Rhinox) and liked it. But I like this one, too. It will be interesting to see how I feel about its scale once I have it, as it seems quite small. Not out-of-scale to a CHUG Beast Wars collection, but still, small. I am definitely on the side of the Kingdom version looking more like the cartoon robot than the T30 version does. To me, the original BW basics kinda don't need updates. I mean, you could update them and even improve them, but they are also surprisingly good for their time. I understand if people complain that they all have the same transformation, but in some ways, it's pretty cool that each of them has a unique, well-sculpted animal that then flips around to be a reasonably articulated little character. Still, I would buy updated BW basics probably- as long as they stay in the $10-15 range! Rattrap is the only BW figure rumored to be in the "Core" class so far, right? All other guesses about which BW characters might come out as a new "Basic" are just guesses..?
T30 is more of an IDW Rattrap, and the Kingdom looks more accurate to the show. Both have their purpose. That buck-toothed smirk just oozes personality!
The Kingdom Rattrap mold definitely looks more like the animation model, at least in robot mode. I can add paint with Gundam Markers if it bugs me too much. It's also cheap enough that I can buy two if i mess up the first one. Honestly, the Markers cost more than the toy.
Pretty good, sculpt-wise. If I cared about Beast Wars I'd be getting it. Edit: Thinking about it... For this size class and price I might be getting it only because I like small all-balljointed figures. Looks like it'll be as fun as are Cyberjets.
Well, first: But secondly, you're taking my comment out of context. I value show-accuracy, but many people don't. And that's fine. But there are reasons for multiple lines doing the same thing including price and availability.
I mean, that's fine. Tigatron scanned Snowstalker, a female tiger, when he assumed his beast mode. Snapper was my first BW so I'm biased towards him, but I also liked how Insecticon's crossbow was hidden in bug mode. Wolfang was another figure I really liked and while he was pretty good already a new one would just be icing on the cake. The other fun thing about guys like that is they were never on the show, so scale wouldn't be an issue. They could put them in whatever price point that let them make the best figure. So like, a Core Retrax that could curl in to a little ball without the spring gimmick. Or a simpler transformation like Injector at the Core level where he can be a little pest. Speaking of which, can we use this opportunity to get some new BW guys? Like a sheep?
Wow, TE Rattrap and Kingdom Rattrap are even closer in size than I expected. Which is good for me. Means I won't feel any awkwardness about just using TE instead, since the scale will be practically the same.
Hell Beast Wars itself started the trend of having accurate models around season 2. The transmetals and fuzors have little to no stylistic changes from toy to model. Then the 2000's anime all had basically 1:1 character models. Movies and Animated on were the biggest changes to that
