We've reached peak G1 boys and girls. I was going to skip this guy but a recent rewatch of 1986 movie made me want this guy.

As a Transformers toy this guy is super interesting. The sculpting on his faces are goddam amazing, and some of them have articulating jaws to various degrees. The Siege/ER sculpting here works wonders for the overall detail of the figure and the throne thing. Tentacles look good though they aren't poseable. He's actually pretty big too!

It's got a spinning gimmick. There's this slider that when pressed rotates the faces around. It's great and it has a fantastic clicky noise.

Transformation is pretty easy. The dome doesn't...really plug into anything in it's alt mode. It kinda sits on top of the faces. The dome can plug onto the bottom but it makes the...tower thing unstable an I'm not a fan of it.

The accessories are...there. A blaster that can store on the bottom of the throne, and the floating Iron Man repulsor lookin' piece is removable for transformation. Pretty necessary for standing.

Like cool looking villains? Like gimmick toys? Love Transformers that turn into...things? Quintesson Judge is there for you! Might not have a lot of appeal if you weren't into the 1986 Movie and S3 of G1 but I'm willing to get him again once Pit of Judgement releases!

 

This deco looks better than the Judge in the 5-pack exclusive.

 

I'm eager to have both. The colors on the faces are more in line with the movie and the green tentacles are consistent with their G1 portrayal. Don't mind having more than one of these guys about!

 

Interesting and very different. Not very poseable and that transformation is pretty simple. But those faces look awesome and very nostalgic

Since they’re usually shown in groups of three I really want 3 of them.

 

I really don't care about the "alt mode" I would of gotten this thing if it didn't even transform because honestly... I'm never going to transform him anyway... I already have Alpha Q who didn't transform at all. I don't expect that from Quintessons.

But yeah I do plan on getting this guy if I see him.

Also... I skipped out on the Cyberverse Quintesson because it looked a lot like G1 and I didn't care about the other figures he came with but I saw a side by side comparison recently, only one of the faces really looks G1 so I kinda regret not getting both.

 

This guy is gonna shelfwarm baaaaaad.

 

At first I thought I'd prefer this deco to the convention pack, but the lack of color on the effect part on this one and the green tentacles on the convention one makes me cool waiting for that. I'm cool with just one of this mold. I'm happy with the Cyberverse one as a second judge.

 

After seeing these pics and a video review of the Pit of Judgment set, I went ahead and ordered a second regular Quintesson, and I plan to order the Pit of Judgment. A trio of Quintessons, accompanied by their assorted goons, sounds like a great display piece.

 

I don't see kids wanting this.

 

Nevermind that it's clear that Hasbro is catering not JUST to kids but also adult collectors...something they've stated many times by now!

Sure a kid might be more likely to pick Megatron who has more brand recognition, but who's taking kids toy shopping? Adults. An adult might see the Quintesson Judge and go "Whoa it's that thing from the Movie and G1 show."

Plus IIRC Quint Judge is short packed anyways.

I agree. Only us older adult fans know who that toy is supposed to represent and I can only imagine a handful of kids interested in a prison for their Micromasters.

 

Um... considering kids already know who the Quintessons are due to their appearance in Cyberverse and the play set mode I think they will be wanting this. Honestly what adult is going to give a crap about the play set mode when...

A. The Quintessons never transformed in the fiction.

B. Most of us don't actually PLAY with our figures anymore.

C. We're just going to put these on display in their Quintesson mode.

That alt mode only exists so it has more play value for kids.

 

Peak G1 is right. Still, it looks good if you're into it, and if you're not, it's clearly a one off oddity. It's not for me, but if you like it, enjoy.

 

Plus even if people are right about the whole shelf warming thing, it probably won't because the Quint Judge is short packed in the case. Gonna be gone long before the Megatrons go.

 

Have this on pre-order at Amazon and can't wait to get him next month. I have 3 of the 3rd party figures and each with a different head of course and they light up. Yes please sdcc version and can't wait to be able to buy that set too.
