not reading the thread to avoid spoilers, but I picked up '84#0 during the comixology sale this weekend, and that hands down is the best TF comic I've read in years, probably over a decade.
Certainly the best from IDW I can think of. (Spotlight Optimus and LSOTW are up there too, but this has way better art them LSOTW). Every character seemed so... in character. such a weird feeling in a Transformer story in this last 10 years or so...

My only major gripe is I personally don't need them intentionally recreating the Marvel coloring errors, but it is what it is there...

I would like some cameos from some of "Squadron X" before the story is done.

Issue 2 was released today. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    What’s people’s thoughts?

This issue's fight felt like a reference to Spotlight Shockwave's Dinobot battle, which itself was a homage to the original Marvel Shockwave and Dinobots battle. Referenception.

Overall pretty good, although I found the fight between Shockwave and the Dinobots to not be as interesting as what was happening on Cybertron

I'm starting to sense the meddling hand of Simon Furman once again. I wanted a straight forward expansion to the original Marvel comics, filling in backstory we did not get originally.

What we see in this issue are scenes actively going against the established story in both the Marvel US and Marvel UK comics.

First, Impactor did not know Springer, Sandstorm and Broadside until the Triple Changers joined the Wreckers in the present day in the Marvel UK comics. Even if Furman didn't want to include the UK comics in these comics, there's no reason to actively go against them for fans who had read the UK comics. But Impactor, has two hands which Furman calls himself out on in the notes at the back.

Okay, so Furman couldn't use the Savage Land. That's fine and understandable. But what about Dinobot Island from the cartoon as a stand-in that fulfils the same purpose? Also, the whole battle is different to how it was originally told in the Marvel comics.

"I know, right! Not how we all thought it went down." What is he building up to here? I don't like the "stuff you read years ago is now a lie" approach to prequels. Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet being aboard the Nemesis seems to be setting them up to be back on Cybertron by the present day, so I've no problem with their inclusion.

And now we have Star Saber fighting Straxus in the next issue. Should be fun.

I liked issue 2 but I am bored with Shockwave Vs the Dinobots. It's been done to death.

Really enjoyed this one but am leery of anything that potentially invalidates TFUK (The true continuity, imo) stuff

It was a key battle in the early comics. But I’m put off by Grimlock powering himself up with Energon to defeat Shockwave.

Nothing here need be seen as "invalidating" anything. It's merely different.

This is a continuity that uses US Marvel, but apparently not UK Marvel, as a base. UK Marvel still exists. Just not here.

But it should do. It didn't *HAVE* to be different.

    Why intentionally piss fans off?

Didn't Furman basically take the same route in Regeneration One? And the entire premise of the 84 series is that the stories you know aren't the truth, or even the whole truth. The opening narration should tell the reader that much. If the series pisses you off then just ignore it, Marvel US/UK are complete as they are anyway

He seems to have something against his old work on Marvel UK now. Anyone who hasn't read the UK comics have had many opportunities to catch up on them, and yet the more expansive and deeper UK continuity still seems to be treated like this obscure foreign thing. I'd say that the premise of "your childhood is a lie" is a flawed one, and it should have just been played straight. But I am sure he has something up his sleeve to be a huge revelation at the end.

All I wanted was a comic that didn't shit on the fans of the original. But here he is, Furman's pulling his pants down ready to do so.

That seems a little harsh... but I don't get, much like with RG1, why not tie it in into the richer, more detailed history? I get that not everyone had access to the UK stuff in the 80s and 90s... but you can't say that today.

I like the idea of Straxus being a “Leige.” Harckens back to the Leige Maximo, which, IMO should of been the final big bad in RG1.

yes, it is very much playing to the memories we all had reading those original issues and having all the weird quirks just makes it seem all the more legitimate...

so I really liked the expansion of scenes from the original Marvel run, just like before they fit just enough with a little wiggle room if you squint...

and Straxus falling in love with the place because it has a smelting pit was priceless...

Seeing Straxus was great. Getting to see Shockwave plan against Megatron even before they land on Earth is great.

The Dinobots/Shockwave fight is so much worse than Spotlight Shockwave.

Grimlock takes some superfuel and Counterpunch is like: "Wow, what a twist, I bet you didn't see THAT coming!" Like come on, Furman. You could've thought of something better than that.

I am interested in this series, but only really as a fan. I have the sneaking fear that this series is basically just an Ask Vector Prime penned by Furman for the Marvel US continuity.
