This is 1 of maybe 10 figures I had as a kid. The Earthrise figure is amazing, but too puny to scale with my favorite robots and I missed out on his minions ( Did you know both his alt modes are bigger than the g1). I scored a weaponless g1 figure for cheap and I'm going to bulk him out and give him the modern articulation. So far I've taken him apart and cut apart his helmet to move back his cheek guards. I need a donor figure for his new crotch, hands, feet, and various parts to bulk up. Hmmm. Check out neo Classic Magnus I did a while ago Heavy/Scratch: - G1 Ultra Magnus
Good idea. I gotta say I was a little disappointed in the new one. He is just to bulkie for my preference of the character. I enjoyed the one from the cartoon and the that IDW spotlight which to me represented a leaner bot. The lower legs also felt a little close to the g1, as in might as well have been a G1 with updated articulation. So I support this idea 100%. I wonder how hard it would be to just scavenge the parts listed from the WFC version. I don't know how attached you are to it.
Okay, I decided to buy a second Doubledealer to bulk out his body. I like the way he's looking, transformation will use all the improvements from Earthrise.
i think what the guy meant is to make it properly leader size, CW Ultra Magnus/TR Powermaster Prime for example. ER Doubledealer is just a slight taller than standard Voyager size. of course i could be very wrong, but this is my opinion on what he's doing
But he's not customizing the ER figure, he's customizing the G1 figure which albeit is already kind of large in it's own right. As far as I can remeber, Doubleclouder in the Masterforce cartoon wasn't some towering behemoth and scaled closer to the rest of the Destrons.
I don't like the new scale or studio series. I prefer mp for most my collection is the short answer. He's bigger than Megatron in Earthrise, so the Japanese scale is out the window; he's the biggest non-city bot. He was also bigger than Nautilator, monstructor, Optimus prime, and every other figure I had as a kid minus powermaster prime. And a scud missile tank is bigger than a regular tank, so I think he should be a big boy. Also his face is huge.
Vehicle scale is irrelevant when talking about how big his robot mode is and so are the original toy line sizes. Zero factoring. Doubledealer, fictionally, is pretty much a normal height dude.
Look, man. I made him big because I made him and it's what I want. You don't want him big, that's also cool. You do what you want with your robot toys made for kids and so will I. It's just weird to come here and act like I'm "wrong" for playing with toys a different way.
Heh. I don't have a bone in this little fight but i will say this; you threw down the Gauntlet by using such language as Too Puny, without quantifying exactly what scale you were basing such a statement on.
This is shaping up into an epic custom, as per the norm I am always looking to see what you're going to do with your customs.
That's a fair point. Power of the Primes Optimus and Combiner Wars Megatron are the scale I like best. MP pretty much. I think they scale with deluxe cars better. Better than a missile cloaca!
Little update, did a lot of cutting and reshaping pieces. Waiting for Lego ratchet joints to come in the mail.
