i originally put on Molotow metallic gold. i bought a bunch of their paint markers shown in the zip bag in prev photo i posted, including their liquid chrome which is what got me interested in the brand.

it looked good but i found it a tad too yellow vs the more bronze gold that IF used on the figure. so on top of the Molotow, i put a coat of metallic gold Sharpie, which i already had on hand.  is sharpie considered ink or paint?

i'm not sure how durable either are and how long it takes for the paint/ink to set. i painted the molotow last night, and did the sharpie touch up just couple of hours ago this morning. did touch it with my finger and it seems dry to the touch already. but i'm not going to rub it or touch it any more for at least a week. and after that avoid touching it there on purpose if i can help it.

so if you want to match the gold, i would prob suggest just going straight with the gold metallic sharpie, assuming it takes to the plastic without any other base coat, and it's durable enough to stay on the nose.

    @UltraMagnusLRLL where you at??? LoL

VERY Nice. Tho I think I have different goals in mind for mine... Will have something to show soon...:confused2

    20200806_135210.jpg Okay I'm Back.

    So I started with this:
    20200806_125635.jpg
    20200806_125700_070.jpg
I NEVER liked the Pink Eyes. Autobots eyes are BLUE in my book.
    20200806_125617.jpg

So I made the yes the lightest blue I had on hand, and got a preeeeetty decent match for the Nose(I always thought the nose should be darker), and while I was at it, gave the Teeth some definition.

    20200806_134932.jpg

Afterwards, I decided he fits in pretty well among my Primes.

CHALLENGE: ANSWERED. NOT 'COMPETITION'. INSTEAD, 'COMPARISON'...

I used Citadel Colors paints... probably not as absorbent into this plastic as your marker. But he's just gonna chill on the shelf, so he's probably safe.

EXCELLENT! i was wondering if you could remove the helmet and how it was done. i don't much fancy the pink eyes, so a repaint of those is in order for me too! i think for me i'm going to try and get something metallic, perhaps red to match the chest, so that it's more visible under the brim of the helmet.

is the helmet just tabbed in on the centre of the head and i just have to pull it up and off?

Yes, it's pretty simple getting the helmet removed. Getting it back together is the really tricky part. As you can see, I ended up with the eyes a bit more exposed. But that was a choice I made because I didn't want to risk ruining my freshly applied paint apps by forcing it all the way on as tight as it needs to be.

Thus he doesn't look as quite as threatening, but still a cool piece for my odd assortment of Primes, methinks.

okay, took me the day but here it is. i'm really happy with how it all turned out:
    1. redid his nose, as it wasn't a smooth application with the multiple layers i originally did
    2. gold on the 4 canine teeth and silver on the teeth strip in between top/bottom as well as the 2 block of teeth at the bottom rear
    3. all rectangular blocks on the white armour in silver, including the ones on the two side pieces of his helmet
    4. all smaller square blocks on the white armour in dark grey to match the colour on the sword sheath and dark parts on arms/legs
    5. silver accents on the tail
still to do: sword handle and lion eyes. :p

I got myself a set of the gold, silver, bronze Sharpie markers. Does the Sharpie paint rub off this particular plastic? I used it on Megs little silver accents, but Magic Square matte plastic seems like it would hold paint better than smooth IF plastic and it's recessed so it won't be a rub issue anyways.

i haven't tried on MS plastic. but yes, the gold metallic sharpie will rub off fairly easily initially when you first apply it. not sure what the dry time is but i'm trying to avoid painting anything that will be high contact, and trying to stick to recessed areas, like you have with megs.

not sure if the plastic on MS would be better or worse than IF considering MS plastic is more "waxy" with i believe more nylon added to their composition making it that weird soft but strong texture everyone either likes or hates. i'd be concerned that the paint may not adhere as well for an even coating because of that. so i would think maybe a smoother surface would give you a better result to be honest.

i only resorted using the gold sharpie because it was a better match. but for everything else on the Lio figure, i used the molotow paint markers i bought. they are "graffiti" markers specifically formulated paint to draw on and adhere to various different surfaces, so it should in theory stick to about anything i want to on any figure. also it's acrylic so can be washed up with water, the pens are refillable and you can get various different interchangeable tips.

    MOLOTOW™: ONE4ALL Marker System

as for paint clean up in areas that i don't want paint, i've been using isopropyl alcohol. and at times i've made quite a mess in some areas as they are so small and sometimes hard to get at. but i have been trying to use the alcohol as sparingly as possible since it's been sold out in my area since the pandemic started. :(

Looking forward to check out this lil guy. Cheer's!

EDiT: Just took him out and oh boy are the joints tight! Haven't transformed him yet but my only nitpicks so far are:
    - Obviously the lack of paint apps but then again I guess it can touch it up.
    - Really finicky to mess around with IMO.
    - Main Nitpick to me has to be how IF did his optional hand with Lion paw. Really wish you can unplug just the fist instead of the whole assembly. I worry about the ball peg snapping off and it's game over.

Overall a fun figure and not bad on the wallet. Looking forward to Bludgeon!

not baba. was about too when they had pre-order and free shipping, but when i went to purchase, they bumped up the price on me that same day. i went with some new vendor and it paid off. i checked shortly after and they too bumped up their price.

right now, best i see on eBay is about $32 plus shipping.

So got him in over the weekend, and while I love the way his bot mode looks, the beast mode is just meh. Nothing really tabs in or has anywhere to securely stay except the back legs/back, which cripples any beast mode articulation. I hate to say it, but it doesn't really make me want to keep getting iron factory figures
