At this point I pretty much assume all KO companies are the same company until I find out otherwise. Heck, I mostly assume many 3P are all one main company, too

Early on there were lots of rumors that Maketoys and Fansproject were staffed by a lot of the same people. And there was similar speculation about many of the early third party groups. So there’s some basis in the theory that all the third parties are connected. I imagine that there’s a kinda “microbrew” type atmosphere of collaboration and competition based on what we’ve seen.

 

More importantly, even if they return, they could only produce what they already have the CAD files for. Without this designer guy who scanned and reworked the Hasbro models, I doubt they have the know-how on how to reverse engineer toys again. And likely after this guy gets some long jail sentence (very likely in the country where embezzlers are shot by a firing squad) any engineer would think twice about working for them again...

This is China, money talks a lot, I'm sure if enough money swapped hands the sentence will be significantly reduced or dropped.

Don't count on it. They executed the guy for the Bandai Gundam KOs. Very similar situation.

 

Yeah, China is different. While we debate the death penalty here for the most heinous crimes, they’re executing people for what we consider white collar crime. I think a lot of folks in this part of the business will be watching to see what the final penalties are and act accordingly.

Yes yes, technically IP theft, but honestly the real theft is Disney's army of lobbyists and paid off politicians making it so nothing ever goes public domain ever again. Most of the time the 3Ps (and even more borderline cases like Wei Jiang) are making figures in niches the parent companies have little interest in anyway, the revenue loss is negligible. Arguably if they served their fanbase better there wouldn't be so much leeway for the 3Ps to operate in in the first place...

 

Absuh-fruitly not. In fact some 3P's have deep animosity towards each other- Fanstoys and Gigapower for instance hate each other. I get what you're saying and implying, but again with all due respect all 3P's are not the same company under different names. That also doesn't make sense given the vastly different levels of quality and customer service.

Hypothetically speaking, I wonder how the average fan of the franchise would feel if Hasbro's dropping a dime on WJ (possibly knowingly) led to the deaths of some of these people?

 

I mean, those aren't even remotely the same figure anymore. One's a hollow plastic toy designed and priced for children to play with, the other is a highly detailed, painted and articulated figure aimed at the collector market.

Maybe they have some common design DNA but for all intents and purposes, radically different figures based on the same character.

 

Yeah, maybe some of the KOs are different names for the same people, definitely not the 3Ps though. Massive differences between their styles, materials, etc.

Should they receive a punishment too disproportionate for their crime (I'm not a native English speaker and can't find a better word, so please don't attack me on semantics) I'd put the blame on whoever judged them and on themselves because they should have been aware of the risks of their actions, not on Hasbro.

As I have already written, see earlier, there is reason to believe that the production of M09 MPM04 moved to another place. I studied all the photos.For example, this Assembly line assembled a toy worth 4-6 dollars.
