Pretty much the last one. You can place BotW after any of the three timelines and it works. Which parts of the lore are true and which are just myth changes depending on which you're following, but the game plays out the same regardless.

See also Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" series, where the arc of history becomes more predictable the broader and more abstracted the view of it is.

They provide us with delicious eggs. They give us rides as we dangle helplessly from their tiny feet. Do not anger the cuccoos or they will make you pay.

I don’t get why Ocarina is the only Zelda where a divergent timeline happens because the hero loses. Shouldn’t all of them have at least two branches then? One where the hero wins, and one where he loses? I agree with the previous posts that Nintendo came up with a weird timeline.

No other Zelda game had a group of sages that were there to save the world.

A Link to the Past was the first game with the sages.

Yes, but the sages weren't there to fight the villain. What I mean is that OoT had the sages gathered to battle Ganon should Link fail.

They didn't fight in Ocarina either. They just opened the way.

We didn't see them fight because Link didn't lose. Either way, it is what it is.

Lots of Zelda games have some odd quirk. Breath of the Wild is the only game to happen in multiple timelines after the divergence. Adventure of Link is the only canonical game to have two generations of Princess Zelda alive simultaneously. I think A Link Between Worlds is the only direct sequel to feature a different Link than its predecessor.

In the case of OoT, I think there were two reasons this happened. For one, it's the only game where Link is already mucking around with the timeline. Creating a divergent scenario for each game would be unmanageable, but if they're going to do it at all, this is where it makes sense to do it. Second, the game deliberately set itself up at the center of the lore for all of the other Zelda games that existed at the time. It gave an origin for Ganon, the Sages in LttP, the town names in Zelda II, and made explicit that there are multiple generations of Links and Zeldas fighting Ganon. It only makes sense that the games that came afterward tended to define themselves in relation to OoT as well. So once Nintendo decides they need to nail down a chronology of the series, guess where the nexus is going to be.

I absolutely hated the motion controls in Skyward Sword, so a version without it would be pretty great.

Oooh...I was just about to pop SS in for my third play through, but now I’ll wait and see how this pans out. I didn’t mind the motion controls at the time but they’ll probably feel a bit clunky to me now after years of playing BotW. Fingers crossed the rumor is true, the visuals and story in SS is one of my favorites.

I'm curious to play it again. I remember having a blast with it. My friends in College and I put homebrew on our Switch so we could play the game before it came out when a bunch of Wii games were put up on the piratebay that year. We had a ton of fun playing it at our local Roxx gaming cafe on the big screen.

I know it's not one of the popular ones, but I don't share many of the complaints in regards to the motion controls as others have, but maybe that's a result of the memories I have playing it vs playing it recently.

I thought overall the SS motion control was OK, although I had to re calibrate my controller way too often (maybe it was just a problem with mine). The only motion that really frustrated me was the forward stab but luckily you don't have to use it very much outside of one boss fight. But I'd be perfectly happy to play without it.

As far as the game itself - it had some of my favorite Zelda moments - basically all of Lanayru, and the death mountain sequence where you lose all your stuff. I liked the story and the fact that there were NPCs that actually mattered, and I liked the challenge of the shadow realms. I do think it was a tad repetitive - there were at least one too many fights with the Imprisoned, and I wish the surface world areas were a bit bigger.

Depends. If you wanna play the new one go for it. If you have a 3DS/2DS you can grab either the first, or the first remake on the eshop for cheapsies. Its generally a fun romp regardless of which version you go for. I haven't played the Switch remake, but it should be roughly the same.
