I'm just wondering which Unicron would hurt me first when transforming, Spikey Zetacron or Massive Haslabicron.

Check Peolesdrus stop motion transformation video on youtube, then compare to the Haslab also on youtube which looks like a job you should be paid to do as opposed to fun, I tried and failed to embed them into my post

Not going to lie, the new WFC line is some of the most fun I've had with Transformers in years.

I've seen it and seen a few reviews of it so far, they're both going to be a lot of work. Tydirium hangar & Emgo both had to shave and modify several clips and pegs for their Zeta Unicron. The leg clips are usually the main ones causing issues, there's also the little skycraper bits breaking (sometimes the spikes), it was really bad in Prime Vs Prime's review & Bobby Skullface.
I'm still getting both but going to be wary of the detailed bits & going to test the clips to make sure they aren't going to snap when pulling the leg away from the body.

Hasbro has more detail = True.

But it's also impossible to buy unless you get a second mortgage.

So, balancing the amount of details, kibble, price, movie accuracy, etc... I vote for Studio Cell.

    But hey, that's just me.

More power to those who prefer Hasbro's design.

Fair enough, I only have ER Starscream and Wheeljack (and Unicron I guess) but they're not that complex from little I've seen.

I think the article has valid points. Even Hasbro thinks so: 1-steps exist to replicate the fun & ez G1 toys.

So stop hating on a collector who prefers G1 toys. Or u might as well hate Hasbro, too. And u know u would punch another collector to defend that faceless corporation! So take a deep breath and remember not to punch yourself! :)

I'm personally quite irritated by some releases, and their lack of intuitive transformation scheme. Plus, the plastic can crack or break if u dont watch out for hidden tabs! So yeah, I can definitely empathize with the guy in that article. :)

Why does this thread keep turning into a thread where people are trying to sell a 3p unicron?

I'm not sure, they're not doing good at selling it though. You gotta push the pros of the Zetacron.
Robot mode is clean but symmetrical.
Wings are thin like the movie but make for Armadacron stubby rings.
The alt mode is a almost perfect sphere but the panelforming and sometimes stuck tabs make it difficult/delicate.
I'm going to enjoy both as they both have good and bad, for me I wanted planet mode above robot, gets tiring looking at the Armada's 1/4 planet mode.
Either way I'm glad to see options of Unicron after having barely any options for so long.

No, no I wouldn't, go read my other replies on this thread.
That's why I was speculating on what kinds of Transformers this person messes with because Generations is pretty damn hard to break during their simple transformations. The only ones that self destruct while messing with them/are particularly irritating are MP's. Plus I'm not a fan of G1 toys, I respect them from a distance, but I was born into Beast Wars and Robots In Disguise, my entire life G1 toys have been outdated so I don't buy 'em.

EDIT: I'm also not hating on the author, I'm just amused by it.

I'm asking this in totally good faith, but what about the newest update, or the updates post campaign have lead this to be disappointing? Or were you disappointed from the reveal? If the former, I'm confused since there's no new information here really, at least about how it functions. What it is, has been known since they showed it. If it's the latter, well carry-on I suppose.

yeah.... no. Me getting on ignore lists for pointing out Recent MP flaws says otherwise. Most people who’ve seen me on here will know I in no way defend Hasbro unless they legitimately did something well. No brand loyalty here.

The thing is, I don't for a minute believe that the author of that article is a collector of Transformers toys. Perfectly willing to believe he had G1 toys, but that's all I'll credit.

I think it's someone who very occasionally buys a transformers toy, just like an "Oh Sideswipe I remember him" but isn't what we'd call a collector.

We've seen the demo video already, and that wasn't an hour long. An extenuating factor is that up until recently, they've had to tiptoe around the fragile prototype. And even with the new plastic test shot, it probably needs quite a few tolerance adjustments.

I like the way Studio Cell transforms better than Haslab. I really don't like the shellformer transformation route they took. Reminds me of Armada Unicron.

Disappointment grows, from each new angle and video it just looked worse. In this instance, for me, the plastic sounded cheap with each click, it looked cheap from the stand and it coming in a such a state of self assembly is also disappointing.

Still this is my issue, my preferences, I thought it looked amazing initially but it's not living up to what I envisioned and in comparison to the 3rd party, a significantly cheaper option, the design is outright amateurish.

I'm not disparaging the toy really, it's likely the way it is for longevity, as in make a mistake transforming it and a panel will pop off as opposed to breaking a $600 toy on day one. It's clearly billed as a War for Cybertron installment and it's appropriate for the line, just the design of the 3rd party is a literal masterpiece figure I can't help pine for what could have been if it was in the MP line.

I would have killed for BW neo Unicron back in the day and Haslab has certainly made a spiritual successor to it, it's just not sophisticated enough for me but then I have always been more for MP/Alternators than the "main" lines. I almost bought one but I'm glad I didn't.

Okay, lets's go with that. How does someone who picks up a toy that casually end up with a "long and complicated" transformation?

I maintain that this "article" was, like so much else pretending to be journalism on the internet, commissioned for nothing other than stirring shit (hence my calling it clickbait), and was written from a point of near-total ignorance, save for what a few quick searches would turn up.

Because options are a good thing?
Because we all have our own opinions on stuff?
Because they're both representing the same character and appealing to very similar if not the same audience?
Because it's weird to see how insecure one or the other side of the fandom is and how certain people seem to be incapable of hearing an opinion that's different than their own?
Because this is a "discussion forum" and a big part of most useful discussions of a product usually involves comparisons to similar or competing products?

Most importantly, because, by the rules of this forum, we're allowed to talk about 3P alternatives in official threads and official alternatives in 3P threads?

A better question to ask would be "Why do so many people get their knickers in a twist when someone mentions a figure they don't like?"

Personally, I own the Zeta Unicron AND have Haslabs on order.

I love the sculpt and design of Zeta's. For me, it blows Hasbro's out of the water in terms of character accuracy, design, and genuinely hitting those "1986 Movie feels".
What I don't like about Zeta's? He's so tiny! I knew he'd be small but still, when I opened the box and pulled him out, I was taken aback. And the planet mode is kind of naff.

What I expect to like about Hasbro's? He's massive!! Huge presence! And his planet mode looks glorious.
What I expect to not like about Hasbro's? The greebling all over, the kibble hanging off the back, legs, shoulders.. and anywhere else it seems Hasbro could find to stick it. That and the face. I'm really not sold on the face - the greebling and linework on the face are way too much. The pointy teeth look a little daft as well to me. I'm hoping the greebles all over the body aren't too intrusive and the sheer size of the figure helps to minimise their impact. I'm also going to be curious how easy it will be to remove some of that kibble, preferably in a non-permanent and non-distructive way. If we can clean up the bot mode a little without damaging the figure, that may go a long way towards appeasing my toon-accurate obsession.

For now, juries out on which will be better, and I half expect that there won't be a genuine winner because they are just a little too different.
