I’m just happy whenever a new aesthetic takes over and we get to see the characters like we’ve never seen them before. But that’s also why I’m not sad to see the movie aesthetic go, simply because I’m ready for the next thing. I have five movies and shelves of toys to remember it by. I liked the Bumblebee movie style because it was the closest to traditional TFs with that photorealistic CGI we hadn’t seen combined together, and I’m eager to see if/how that will evolve as it persists.

Just because we move on from one thing does it make it forgotten or invalid. TFA’s long gone but its style still speaks to me and is fondly remembered by many fans. I think the movie designs were a great experiment and absolutely were a net positive to the evolution of the brand’s visual identity.

Actually, @Autobot Burnout, 2002!Scooby's actually a bad example - since the CGI Scooby model was often cited as a negative point of the film (and, let's be honest, it is a little off-putting). Also, let's be honest here, photorealism is probably not what the visual effects team was aiming for - whereas with Transformers, photorealism (or as close as you could get to photorealism with giant transforming robots) was practically the marching order. The same goes for Garfield in the life-action film - Scooby and Garfield were meant to be cartoony, whilst the Bayverse Transformers weren't

A better example would have been the Skull Island creatures in Peter Jackson's King Kong (especially the pit creatures and the Terapusmordax) - these are all outlandish designs that, somehow, manage to work as real creatures. Even better, the film manages to accurately simulate both 1930s New York and an unknown, primordial island entirely in a studio, with miniatures and green-screen backgrounds. Or the dinosaurs in Walking With Dinosaurs which, despite predating Transformers by eight years, look, move and emote like real, living animals.

    Im ready for something new,
but please make it look good, not ugly. I feel like Bay's designs broke new ground in how ugly you could make giant robots.

I also feel like Transformers as living robotic organisms should have some common body types and not be random body types.

They should have a skin/shell to hide their organs. Transformers now have pretty well defined organs. Brain Module, Brain stem, Transformation Cog, Spark Case, Innermost energon, skeleton and they have presumptive organs (they drink / eat Energon) teeth (fused together), throat, a stomach of some sort, we also know that they bleed Energon and their skin should have some healing mechanism.

If they respected all the known fluff about Transformer bodies I'd be super excited.

I think they should just go with new designs.
The main issue with the Bay designs is that they don't look anything like their G1 counterparts to the point where you can't tell who's who at a first glance. I don't mind having non-G1 looking designs, but if I have to wait for someone to name drop a character or go to TFwiki to know who they are, then thats a problem.
And the fact that they all look like Exo-skeletons with scrap bits dangling off of them, making them look hollow and too busy at the same time. G1 and even Armada Optimus look like they can take a punch to the chest, while Bay-verse TF 1-3 Prime looks like he'd go down in 1 hit.

I’d like to see something done in the style Animated was originally going to have, just to see something new.

Don't keep the bayformer designs, nor the G1 designs. Give us something new.

I'd like for the complex aesthetic to stick. Bumblebee nailed it perfectly, I feel.

Yeah, Bumblebee was a really good balance. I hope that the movies don’t shy away from reinventing some of the characters or even creating new ones. Blackout and Barricade come to mind. If we had new characters like them who had distinct designs, that would be really cool.

Yes keep the designs from them
In bumblebee none of the designs aside from the main 3 Decepticons didnt wow me like aoe galvatron and tlk hot rod did. They were designs i already seen before and unoriginal.

One interesting thing would to see a movie version of Rack n’ Ruin. I feel like they’d be one of the few characters that would really benefit from the unorthodox body types and design choices seen in the first five films.

What about the body of Bumblebee, Travis Knight or Michael Bay? Travis Knight's Bumblebee was released to critical acclaim and declared a reboot of the franchise, Fans loved it, critics loved it, Travis Knight is a fan of the scorce material. Travis Knight saved Transformers. Bumblebee saved Transformers.

Ye. Barricade really was, as well. He has seemed to become the definitive portrayal of Barricade, which makes me really happy.

Ah Breakaway is amazing. Sideswipe too, but damn Breakaway. The fact that during his transformation, his cockpit opens and reveals his pilot gas mask. That’s so cool.

I don't think they should keep them, I love the designs from 1-3, i really don't care about the ones from 4-5, but it's better to leave them as it's own thing, or it would confuse people, if we're talking about a reboot.

FUCK NO! I hate those designs, there's a few that are decent but even the better looking designs are still ugly as hell.

Just give me something that looks like it can actually transform instead of something that looks like you dropped a vehicle from 100 feet in the air onto a pile of explosives and then glued the remains back together into the general shape of a robot... or something with zero vehicle kibble that some how magically turns into a truck.

Just take the Alternators/Binaltech designs and animate those. Or something similar to it... I really just want highly articulated Transformers with actual vehicle mode interiors and animation models based on the toys so that nothing had to be cheated.

I know they've always cheated things. If the toys are made first the Animation has to cheat to make them move in ways the toys can't. If the animation models came first the toys have to cheat to make them look screen accurate. All I really ever wanted from a live action film of Transformers is designs that don't cheat but instead we got designs that cheat 1,000 times more than the cartoons ever did.

I'm generally more forgiving of cartoons cheating because it's a cartoon, you don't expect realism from it. But a live action film where the whole point is to make something that looks like it actually exists in the real world is held to a higher standard... and instead of looking like realistic Transformers we instead get giant piles of garbage that some how turn into clean looking vehicles.

A freaking cartoon character that mass shifts should not be more realistic than the live action films. Why do none of these things obey the laws of physics? I just want to see transformers that can realistically transform. I'm tired of walking piles of scrap metal masquerading as transformers... Those designs would be fine in another movie where they don't have to turn into anything like Pacific Rim but as Transformers they look like shit.
