Sure, he could make a great wreckers film.
But would Hasbro/Paramount let him do it?

Ha ha, NO. I would want him to stay far away from anything Transformers.
The problem is his style honestly doesn't work even for a Wreckers story, because these guys, no matter how dark and violent they are, are still a colorful cast of characters who are as fun to watch/read as they are brutal and cynical. His style didn't work for Superman and I doubt it'll work for Justice League despite all the clamoring for the Snyder Cut. The same applies here - it worked for Watchmen because the story was already bleak and dark. It only kind of worked in Dawn of Justice due to the movie drawing heavily from The Dark Knight Returns - and even then, it was an absolutely incoherent trainwreck, so that doesn't even matter. I wouldn't want to see him drain the fun out of the story so all we're left with is boring, bleak, miserable piles who are brutal but with no weight behind it because it's impossible to invest yourself in their story (I was more invested in the senator and Alfred than I was in either of the main characters of Dawn of Justice, for example).

But it doesn't matter anyway, I doubt he'd want to touch Transformers with a 100ft pole. Never mind the stigma the franchise already has attached to it for being an 80s toy commercial, the legacy of the Bay Saga alone would drive someone like him away.

I don't mind snyder as long as he has a competent producer and writer to balance him out.

Transformers doesn't need another all style, negative substance director.

And I liked MOS but at the same time it kinda shows off all his flaws as a director.

... also Watchmen. Faithful. Wowno. Some of the costumes were fairly faithful and a lot of the plot beats were accurate but the movie was the exact opposite in terms of themes and every change he made was for the worse.

Other than the amazing opening sequence. Up there with X-Men Origins: Wolverine's opening montage for "best credits sequence in an otherwise bad movie."

I have no problems with Snyder, but I think James Gunn would do it better.

Good god no. Zack Snyder is to slow motion and drabness what Michael Bay is to shaky-cam and explosions (and what JJ Abrams is to lens flares and "please don't think hard enough to notice the plot holes")

Could he make a visually appealing Transformers movie? Maybe. Would it be good? I have my doubts.

We've already had a director who's all sizzle and no steak at the helm of this franchise. Sure it meant a bunch of movies that made a buttload of money, but it also meant that we haven't shut up about how underwhelming/disappointing/potential-wasting they are for like the last 13 years.

I know he doesn't really want to, but if he did and had a clear vision for it, than this is a great idea. Zack Snyder's hyper stylized, completely insane, uber-macho aesthetic and style is a perfect fit for an idea like the Wreckers, which basically is "Transformers but edgy". Full disclosure, I legit love the Wreckers and the whole concept of an Autobot special forces team and how various writers have tackled that idea, especially in stuff like the comics where they can really flesh the ideas and themes out, and Last Stand of the Wreckers is one of my favorite Transformers stories ever. But Zack Snyder would deliver the closest we'll ever get to an adaptation of G2, and it would, and I say this with no hyperbole, be the most visually impressive Transformers movie yet.

Mind you, it would almost certainly be fucking terrible. But it would be very interesting as a mainstream approach to the Wreckers, and it would at least be more coherent that any of the Bay films. Still not good, but very interesting, just like his DC stuff.

I’d love to see a Zack Snyder-directed Transformers movie of any kind. He’s actually a very thoughtful filmmaker who happens to also be one of the best in the business at capturing nuanced imagery with his camera.

I’ve been listening to a podcast called BvS By the Minute where the hosts break down, you guessed it, Batman v Superman a minute at a time. There’s a lot to talk about. Tons of subtext in the film...in all his films to be honest. He’d be an awesome choice for Transformers.
