Hey, man - don't be so negative about your abilities. I'm sure that if you try *really* hard, you can screw up ALL of your prints!
Tried to match the scale of the S.C.O.R.P. up to Scorponok as best as possible based on the photos. Can't wait to see actual in hand... I mean "in claw" pictures once your Scopronok arrives:
It looks great so far, but I do tend to love storage and organization systems. Yeah, the bench surface itself seemed a bit low in the photo, which I why I asked about the printer height. But I think that's more the angle the shot was taken on next to the door handle. I'll see if I can dig up a nice failed nozzle clog of mine sometime, just to see what people think of the print quality then! Thanks for fielding that one for me! Yup an Ender 5. Yeah, sorry, I haven't given any good comparative photos yet and the big guy isn't out here yet, (ETA sometime this month). I think somebody with Scorponok was going to get me some claw measurements, (looks at lilcarus). It's around 9 inches without suppressors, give or take depending on the barrel. Standard= 8.85", big= 9.64" (I'm a metric guy, so I hope they're converted right). Speaking of big... This is the big barrel. Despite appearances it isn't exactly the same but scaled up, but it is similar. What do people think about this as an exclusive for print jobs? I could do a more radical barrel if people want it, but it does change the look overall and the more parts I include, the greater the end cost. With G1 for reference. Also, I'm at the stage I need to get systematic with the naming convention for each of the files. So here's an update of parts with filenames.
I am both scurrying to finish cleaning up my utility room/finish my work station and anxiously awaiting the release of all these Scorponok parts! I need to see if anyone sells orange resin! Any chance you can create the back half of the shield so we don't have to use the leg guards? If not, I'm gonna have to buy the Printformers files and poorly attempt to create a back half by cutting up his shield file. Ugh.
Nah. Nowdays that's what they refer to as the "new normal". The last thing I want to do is get in the way of Transformers fans supporting other people in the hobby, but I'm sure I could put together something a little closer to what you want when these files are done. I'm also interested to know the limitations of resin printers, if you don't mind running tests. I think this titan may keep me busy for a while. Thanks guys. Much appreciated! ___________________________________ A quick update, with no print photos this time. Thanks to lilcarus I have some detailed shots and measurements and have made adjustments to the grip. I've shortened its height, increased the width and added 1.5mm slots on either side, corresponding with the claw teeth. This should ensure a firmer hold within the claw, but still naturally requires testing. Fortunately though, I've now got more of a head start for when my Scorp arrives. Also, probably not exciting for most, but I ran some PLA estimates for those interested. It's about 2 and a half days printing time the way I do it and just shy of a quarter of a 1kg reel of filament, though actual figures may be slightly higher. For people requesting prints from me, this means I'll be limiting prints to small batches, so that I'm not over-promising and can manage consumables and time appropriately. It should also give FDM printers a better idea of what they're in for (15% infill).
Once I am up and running, I would be more than happy to run some resin tests for you! Especially if it gets me a quality shield! My 3d "modeling" abilities are limited to "take someone else's file and cut it apart and/or add pegs or maybe holes if I can figure that out again." Parts just have to be segmented to fit in my Photon's limited printing space of about 5x3x6.
This is gorgeous. The Fort Max guns you designed were the tipping point for me - after I saw those I ordered my first 3d printer and was hooked instantly. When you release this and the for-purchase upgrade set, I'll be one of the first to purchase and download!
Awesome. I know where I can push the limits on my printer, but it's all guesswork when it comes to a completely different printers, media and processes... and hey, cutting perfect circles can be one of the most difficult and time-consuming aspects of modelling, depending on the topography and subdivision extent, so it's a good skill to have. Let me know a little more detail about what you want and I'll give it a go once the other pieces are done. Thank you for the kind words, fortunately we're all addicts here! I'm glad I can offer something to the fandom to help celebrate these things we enjoy. I also appreciate your support as these things can take weeks or even months to put together. LOL, don't rub it in. I'm crazy desperate here, but still no luck on my end and we don't get hard street dates. The only thing I need to know is how well the grip will sit in the claw, but I can't release untested. Rest assured, I'll post here the moment the STLs are up on Thingiverse and Cults3D. Is anyone interested in a platform elevator to go with the repair bay? I'm thinking of making a separate release for base parts so as not to add to an already large array of parts, but I've heard no call for it, so I'm assuming it isn't much of a priority?
