I really didn't get that at all: but I think they are really comparable: it told a tight, concise, well paced story with a limited cast with good dialog and everybody acting in character - shortly before the Ark leaves Cybertron.

I'm not totally down on Siege by any means, at this point (after 3 episodes) I'm giving it a C- (slightly below average), but it can't lay claim to any of those positives either, with pacing and dialog/VAing* being my biggest gripes with it so far.

*which were my exact same problems with the Netflix Godzilla anime's.

Optimus' "character" apparently is to be someone who would knowingly and willingly sacrifice everyone on the Ark in the name of defeating Megatron, which if that isn't bad enough it is further compounded by the fact that his plan was for them to crash on a planet with no life to never be seen again but we know it instead crashes on Earth which inevitably kills countless more and dooms all of this world to be destroyed by their war.

It was trending at #7 on Netflix a couple days ago, but not anymore... I hope it is doing well... At least we are definitely getting 3 seasons.

I would say you are clearly misunderstanding the argument . I think most people who don’t like it or at least Im not saying that it’s bad , I Am just saying it’s not what I want . And That’s fine , I don’t expect hasbro to cater to me . It would be nice. I would enjoy if they did but don’t expect it. I brought my kids up on the g1 continuity and those are the toys and characters they know and now enjoy. So of course they were confused as to why they are separate . I only buy the toys for my kids anymore , and I only watch the show if my boy will watch it with me . And lately he ask me if it’s a part of the g1 cartoon continuity or not , if I say yes he will watch it immediately . If not he says later and usually it means never . So I don’t watch a lot of transformers tv anymore .

That’s just my personal experience and doesn’t mean anything else than my personal experience .

I did watch this series with him as I said it was possible it fit in ,( and we were both a little sad when we found out it doesn’t ) and I like a lot about it but there are plenty of legit criticism I Felt.

I think Optimus is my biggest problem with the entire show. Fix him and there's a chance of greatness for the next two seasons.

He comes across as an insane cult leader. He has faith, but he has no apparent reason for his faith. Worse, he has blind faith in long shot reckless plans that put all of Cybertron in danger.

The plan working out in the end does nothing to take the insane cult leader edge off of him.

For Prime to be likeable, we the audience need to understand Prime. We need to see the strategy line he sees so we can feel the faith he feels. Why does he belive Cybertron can survive after removing the Allspark? From my perspective in the audience, the entire season felt like "He's right because he's Prime, go with it".

This doesn't have to be complicated. Give us a 30 second scene where the Matrix gives Prime correct insight into some unrelated issue so we have an in- story reason to trust Prime's instincts.

Or give us a 30 second scene where Prime is studying ancient texts nobody else reads.

Or give us a 30 second scene where Prime is plugged into a secret bay communing with Cybertron itself, Avatar style.

Give us literally anything to justify Prime's faith and the show will be so much better.

Would it make me a GEEWUNNER to say that I find it deeply disappointing that, after 30 years, this is Impactor's screen debut, given he has almost nothing in common with the character that we all know and love?

Kinda like the Bayformer Prime who launched the Allspark to Earth. I would have preferred a mix of the orig Comic and Pilot. The Marvel Comic and not the Furman 0.

To play devil's advocate, since the Allspark has been lost for ages and nobody knows exactly what it does, all those believing that removing it from Cybertron will have a detrimental effect are just as blindly religious. There is no empirical evidence for either case, and the only person who knows something more is Shockwave.

It would have been nice if that point was brought up in the actual show... but I wonder if the show writers thought that much about it.

Probably not. The last time we had such depth of writing in a show was Beast Machines (which sucked for other reasons, but it gave us a great insight into directions Cybertronian religion could go).

On the other hand, the scene where BB entered the Alpha Trion protocols had A3 appear in an environment that looked weird and non-Cybertronian, with grass growing around him. Perhaps that was a hint of things to come.

This. It’s a brilliant show for anyone who casually likes/liked Transformers and doesn’t care about slavish G1 accuracy. I also don’t think it’s anywhere near as slow as some of you do.

    I liked it a lot.

But... why was Astrotrain so big? Not an expert of the character but to me he's a normal sized bot that can massform into a jet that carries Decepticon. Is there some continuity where he's Omega or Gestalt sized? Otherwise if they just needed a big bot to serve as a boss why not use an already established one? The Highmoon games used Trypticon then Bruticus. It's also a bit weird how the Guardians are a big deal with no mention of this equally huge Astrotrain.

    Yes. This one.

You'll note that the characters were not always based on the scale of the toy (Jetfire, Barricade come immediately to mind).

That would require the writers to have the ability to develop the characters and their plot points. Which, after a second watch, doesn't seem to be their strong suit. Frankly, I'm kind of shocked they didn't do anything with the Matrix aside from a mention... and since the nonsensical Alpha Trion Protocols were introduced and those contain "the vast knowledge and wisdom of Cybertron" now... what the hell does Optimus' Matrix of Leadership actually do in WFC?

I'm not sure they thought much about anything past what was presented to us. Don't get me wrong... I don't think the show itself is bad, but it's not this wonderful exceptional thing that some are trying to pass it off as just because it's better than the nonsense that was Prime Wars. At the end of the day, this is very very basic in terms of most character development and storytelling.

But I'm not misunderstanding it. I see a lot of criticisms here that are just "man, Shockwave's voice is bad!", when I've watched the same show and heard the same voice and I can't tell what exactly they felt was wrong with it other than it wasn't the sound of Corey Burton that they hear in their head repeated on screen and that somehow makes it bad. So that's exactly the kind of thing I think takes some fans out of the new show (and sometimes before they even really tried to get into it, as let's be frank, some fans were always going to predisposed to hate this show no matter what).

Seemed like the G1 Impactor to me, especially in how he went out as a hero. Or were you wanting IDW's Impactor and expecting him to shout "Wreck 'n Rule!" as he committed a few war crimes with Springer watching in horror?

Alright, it’s been several days, so long enough so that I shouldn’t be concerned with spoilers, at least in a ‘reviews’ thread. All of this has been covered by others I’m sure, I know I’ve already made a couple posts regarding some of this, but here goes anyway:

Overall, a good plot, a good direction, but just some poor choices. In all likelihood these poor choices were probably done in part due to the compressed nature of the series, but things like Ultra Magnus overhearing Megatron’s plan for the Allspark from a holding cell, then his ability to transmit a message despite being a prisoner (I mean, making sure he can’t communicate with the Autobots is the step right after frisking him for weapons when taking him into custody), THEN Optimus Prime stumbling into Megatron’s trap like a complete brainless idiot. I was tempted to refer to him as a rank amateur, but even rank amateurs smell something is up when they receive exact coordinates from a comrade they know to be in the custody of an army that has f’n Soundwave!

And why has Prime become such a librarian bitch? The fight at the space bridge was fine, but that first fight, cheese n rice, what a pussy! Despite all the issues in Combiner Wars, at least that Prime gave as good as he got, but Siege Prime is the nerd thrown into his first playground brawl in that initial fight, and it’s just utterly pathetic. And his judgment is just horrible. Not just walking into the most obvious trap in the history of obvious traps (and yeah, I get they’re trying to point out how desperate their situation is, but come the f’ on, send a scout or something), but all his decisions are just awful hail Mary shit that until episode 6, always bites him in the ass. Just a terrible leader, probably the worst Optimus Prime in terms of logic and leadership that we’ve ever gotten, and definitely the worst brawler despite having been a leader for a long time and the veteran of at least two wars. Just the worst Optimus Prime ever, and I was there for Armada for F’s sake!

As for the voices, eh, not bad but nothing special. Prime was a Cullen impression most of the time, but when he did veer away (mostly for angry or intense yelling) his voice changed to the point where it took a sec to realize it was still Prime talking…or yelling, whatever. Elita sounded like she was on the verge of tears the entire series, and Soundwave was a Cylon. Otherwise, nothing stood out, but voices aren’t really that big to me, I’m more into the dialogue those voices convey, which was….eh, fine, not great, not overly bad most of the time.

Once again Bumblebee is the star grunt common-man hero, only this time he’s the ordained chosen one as well. Kewl. The nature of Autobots and Decepticons is kinda murky and unexplained, but given what Megatron plans to do with the Allspark it’s more of a predetermined programming or ‘genetic’ trait in the vein of G1 and less a choice like IDW…of course that seems to be offset a bit by two very high profile defections, but whatever. Yes, the perfectly timed appearance of Omega Supreme definitely qualifies as a bullshit deux ex machina, but that’s fine, Prime addressed the Omega Guardians so it didn’t come out of nowhere, but yeah, a d ex m.

And the zombies, ugh, why? Find a better booby trap, or monster or whatever.

Basically I realize most of the negative issues are due in some part to the compressed time (couldn’t build plausible, non-moronic ways for Magnus to get word back to Autobots, or create a more viable trap for Optimus so he didn’t seem like a guy with a two-digit IQ, etc), but even with the tight time crunch, they could have done better. Animation was good, but like with the voice acting it’s not something I focus on so a more trained eye would do a better job of finding the good and the bad – though the re-use of models was beyond excessive. It was to the point where they ran out of colors and had to make a random ‘Sideswipe’ body red (he had a blue face, but still confusing). Otherwise, I really hope they step up the writing a bit for ER and Kingdom, and they definitely need to smarten and toughen Prime up A LOT. Cripes, they really, REALLY botched up Optimus Prime.

Prime was the veteran of at least two wars at this point. It wasn't Megatron kicking the shit out of Orion Pax, or Optronix, or whoever he was pre-matrix in this mythos, it was Megatron kicking the shit out of someone on his level physically who had (depending on the lifespan, time frame, whatever) centuries to eons of combat experience, both firearm and melee. And for the record, the brawl at the space bridge was fine, but that initial showing, when he needed to get his guys the f outta there before they were all executed didn't call for rationalizing with Megatron or half-thrown punches, he needed to go in hard and fast with zero hesitation; you know, something a veteran of at least two wars would know. But instead we get science nerd throwing his first punch.

Just a terrible interpretation of Optimus Prime.

I think it would be leaps and bounds better if the show had the actors from the g1 show. But I also think starscream\'s actor was actually ok. Megaton was good because the actor gave megaton his own spin. Sometimes it a got annoying when Optimus was talking because the actor was just not right for the role they should of cast Peter Cullin for the role. Bumblebee I was actually ok with because I didn\'t care for how g1 show used bumblebee. I really didn\'t like how the Autobots were always disobeying Optimus like no one ever listened to him ultra Magnus almost joined the deceptions. Megaton was so brutal I like to think megaton has some sort of honor but this show had to make megaton kill an unarmed damaged prisoner in handcuffs like what type of monster dose that that something you would expect tfp starscream to do in the beginning of the show megaton was trying to talk to Optimus then he had Elita try to snipe and explode megaton that\'s just wrong the roles should have been reversed. I also thought the power scale also terrible in the first battle Optimus was almost killed by megaton then in the final battle Optimus and megaton had been the same stength but bumblebee did help Optimus witch I thought was kind of cool. I Also kind of liked how the show used bumblebee. I also think the show was really rushed there was like two hours of show time. At the end of this the day it\'s a good show but not as good as transformers prime or beast wars so that\'s the end of my review so thanks for reading.

I mean, it's definitely hard to describe exactly why a voice isn't good. But Shockwave's voice isn't good. It's nothing like what the character of Shockwave is meant to be, and sounds generic.

Technically yes, these are new characters and don't have to sound like their previous versions, but when they are so clearly trying to match and emulate the most iconic versions visually, and other characters like Optimus and Soundwave have (poor) imitations of their famous G1 voices, why can't Shockwave? In a show where every Decepticon has a gravelly, thuggish voice, the smooth sophistication of a Warner-esque Burton performance would do wonders to define Shockwave as a character, since without it he just feels like a generic scientist mook.

The voice stands out because you've got this really G1-ny Shockwave in this really G1-ny show and he sounds nothing like you'd expect him to based on the visuals, despite the show clearly trying to cash-in on that G1 nostalgia. It's a lazy half-measure to port in a G1 toy design and give it a generic voice.

Because the first reviews were news, because the show hadn't actually come out yet.
