That is not a fact! That is an assumption.

Is it possible including China in the third act increased the box office? Sure. Is it the sole reason? No.

Why is it not a fact? Because Chinese box office for the series had increased greatly as the series went on before that. Following trends from 2007 to DotM, it is almost certain a fourth Transformers movie would have done gangbusters in China even without "pandering."

Again, I am not saying including China and Hong Kong in the final act didn't increase box office there, but I do think it's disingenuous for people to imply that "pandering to China" was the only reason it survived worldwide or did well in China. Even The Last Knight still did 220 million there.

Even taking away all of the China box office, it undoubtedly would have made much less money, but it still would have been somewhat profitable regardless. Without China, it still would have had around 800 million dollars in box office. With 245 million domestic and over 550 million in other markets, it still would have made some profit, if not as much as it actually did.

You can't be serious. Even if you take away everything earned in China (300 million) and the United States (245 million), you still end up with well over $500 million in box office revenue. The movie made over $500 million dollars in other countries. It's fine if people dislike the fourth movie or any of the movies, but to imply it was a failure everywhere outside of China is nonsensical.

Again, where is the evidence? That's you thinking of a possible reason without ANY data or evidence to back it up.

If anything, the increasing box office after the 2007 film and RotF suggest that the low brow did little, if anything, to negatively affect box office.

Yes, because the Planets of the Apes franchise is such a great example of getting more people to show up for sequels.

Oh, wait, the third movie in the trilogy made a lot less than Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The Planet of the Apes franchise, regardless of how much critics enjoyed and your personal enjoymnent, is not an example of how to get audience members to show up again-and-again.

Yeah, that sounds completely different from the Transformers brand, including the movies.

Actually, it sounds just like the Bay movies.

The nonsense just keeps getting deeper.

Age of Extinction made slightly over 300 million in China. It made $1.1 billion worldwide. That's not "over a third of the box office."

There's no doubt Age of Extinction made a hundred million less in the U.S. than DotM and made slightly less in total box office, but that doesn't mean fans should spout false information and false narratives to support their dislike or hatred of the movies. It was still, undoubtedly, a huge box office success overall, just like the three movies that preceded it.

Finally, whatever the reasons for the eventual box office decline of the Bay movies, it certainly had nothing to do with the opinions or hundreds or thousands of fans on TFW2005 and everything to do with general audiences.

KrazyKraang, didn't you hear what I suggested? Yes we already did confirm got a new Transformers movie is coming out June 24th of 2022 but which one though even though it's a possibility the sequel to The disappointing Transformers The Last Knight might happen but they haven't confirmed it and they haven't confirmed when will Bumblebee get a sequel. I don't blame Joby Harold for getting ready to work on the Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney plus and I don't blame James Vanderbilt for getting started on Scream 5 and now you know they might be halfway through the script of the animated Cybertron film Josh Cooley how long would Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari might be done might be half done I decided how about combined the sequel to The critically acclaimed Travis Knight movie Bumblebee with the critically panned final Michael Bay Transformers movie Transformers: The Last Knight think of this one Transformers: Time and Space

The reason for that was bugger all to do with the movie's quality - the reason for that, many analysts believe, was franchise fatigue from the glut of terrible sequels and reboots (e.g. TLK, The Mummy, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets, Baywatch and Pirates of the Carribean 5). In fact, the summer of 2017 was the worst summer for overall ticket sales since records began - the fact that War For The Planet of the Apes made a respectable amount of money, with high critical and audience approval, in a summer like that is remarkable and it's a testament to the film's quality.

I'll never know the reasoning of every theatre-goer for avoiding AOE, but one can't help but think the potty humour was the reason parents chose not to take their kids to see AOE.

For parents with young kids, why squirm in your seat whilst the Transformers film spends five minutes discussing statutory rape laws in Texas, when you can go and see How To Train Your Dragon 2 instead? Your child will not be privy to uncomfortable discussions about inappropriate topics, mature topics are handled with actual nuance and there's a more compelling story overall.

For parents with older kids who might want to expose them to something a bit more sophisticated, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes offers a more compelling, character-driven film, which tells a story with deep themes about forgiveness and the corrupting power of hatred, as well as how the prejudices of a few individuals can destroy the peaceful intentions of the majority. As well as totally lacking discussions about statutory rape laws in Texas.

And in August, both the above demographics could watch Guardians of the Galaxy - where there's enough action to keep the older kids entertained and enough bright colours and funny lines to keep the little ones happy.

In most of the major European markets, it usually lasted a week at the top spot before being overtaken by How To Train Your Dragon 2 and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Not only did both those films do as well as AOE, but in some major European markets (e.g. the UK, France and Spain), they actually did better than AOE.

In the UK, the box office for AOE was £33.1 million (by comparison, the first film made £48.6 million). The UK box office for HTTYD 2 was £41.5 million and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes made £55.2 MILLION.

Tell a lie, it's almost a third (roughly 27%) and a little over a quarter - that's still incredibly disproportionate.

Bumblebee was the only live action movie Travis Knight directed and the only one that received positive reviews

You do realise that is a) bleedingly obvious and b) contributes absolutely nothing to my point re: the box office drop in AOE.

All I'm saying is I didn't want to bring up the box office but this is about a topic on why so many people what's the sequel to the disappointing Transformers: The Last Knight. I think a sequel could work as long as it's a sequel to both the critically-acclaimed Travis Knight movie Bumblebee and the critically panned final installment for Michael Bay, Transformers: The Last Knight, kind of like a crossover Multiverse sequel having Travis Knight's Bumblebee which was the start of the Bumblebee universe AKA Knightverse crossover with the Bayverse giving the Bayformers the ending it deserves. Like for example. I know Paramount would easily reject what I'm writing Joby Harold was said to be writing a film set in the Bumblebee universe, but right now he's working on Obi-Wan Kenobi the TV show for Disney Plus, James Vanderbilt what is said to be writing a film focused on the live-action adaption of Beast Wars, Josh Cooley is co-writing the script of the animated Cybertron film along with Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari and also Josh Cooley will be directing it, so I decided to do the unthinkable write a script for a Transformers crossover sequel. But I would have the director of Bumblebee Travis Knight along with the director the first five Transformers movies Michael Bay both produced it

Money still doesn't make a better movie, even with wallet votes.

You literally double-posted it, plus it's taking most of the screen anyway. How would I not miss that?

Honestly what do you think of that? I was thinking of writing a Transformers story that would be released on the 24th of June in the year 2022

But you see, we have been told over-and-over again that quality and box office are not always correlated, with the Bay movies often used as examples of that. Consequently, you can't say that a movie's success was because you or some others thought it was high quality.

If you thought it was a compelling film, that is great, but we can't project what we find or don't find compelling onto millions of general audience members or even thousands of internet fans.

But you see, I'm looking at the big picture and not individual markets. It doesn't matter whether or not other films in other franchises made more in individual markets. The fact is, those other films that year did not make 1.1 billion dollars at the box office. None of the MCU, Apes, or Dragon films that year were more profitable than Age of Extinction. That's true regardless of what one thinks of any of those movies.

Did AoE make slightly less in all markets combined than DotM? Yes. Did it make considerably less domestically than DotM? Yes.

But was it a financial failure? No. A movie that is the most profitable movie the year it was released, that made 1.1 billion in box office is not a financial failure by any stretch. Anyone arguing otherwise is either lying or out of touch with reality. It absolutely was a huge financial success just like the first three movies and regardless of how The Last Knight after it did.

Well, I suppose that's one way of describing the Faustian Bargain that was Paramount abandoning the domestic market for that sweet, sweet untapped Chinese market. Because whatever they actually made on AoE was so worth nearly going bankrupt three years later thinking they could simply do the same stuff they did with AoE's release for TLK.

But the domestic market had already been going down, so whatever caused the domestic decline was an already existing phenomenon, and I don't think it's something you can pin on any individual film.
