If I’m still living with that area I’ll probably go. Went to DC for 2019. Baltimore is closer to me.

This kinda blows for me. I'm midwestern and can't afford to fly to the coasts so losing the East to Mid to West pattern is going hurt as I was really hoping they'd reschedule it so it would still be in Chicago next year.

Baltimore - when it actually cared about tourism revenue - was a much safer city from the 90's thru early 2000's. But, do not let my statement deceive you. My good experience is only from the 2 city blocks of the Inner Harbor I visited - primarily for Otakon - also a few Red Sox games. It is one of several very depressed, disgraced & destroyed locations struggling to survive, where burned out buildings are covered over to not scare away tourist dollars & those dollars in turn are stolen by the line of corrupt mayors over the decades present there.

Do not get me wrong, there is great potential in Baltimore. However, the way it is now, I will safely remain away from the crumbling infrastructure. To those that attend, I hope you have an enjoyable experience for me.

P.S. Pray the Hilton is still present come the convention. They have design plans for those city blocks & properties connected to the convention center for redevelopment...

I’ve lived in Baltimore since I was 3. It’s mostly a beautiful place and it isn’t extremely dangerous as it’s made out to be. Sure there are some bad areas but they are few and far between. And the Harbor is one of the safest places in Baltimore
Trust me. You’ll be fine coming to the convention

    Hope springs eternal.
I\'d be surprised if they get to keep this one.  I wonder what MMC is doing.  They\'re still good for things Hasbro isn\'t likely to do.  (For now at least, someday they\'re gonna put a prototype colored Arcee on selects)

When you make a comment in the thread using the "Leave A Reply" feature at the bottom of the news article, any where there's a ' or ", it inserts a \. This is probably due to some kind of bug in the website's code that TFW2005 hasn't fixed yet.

It’s no different than any other city. There are places where you go and places where you don’t. And the places where you go are pretty good. I know this because I’ve lived there.

Baltimore is not a run down crime ridden city. I go there quite often and it is no worse than any other city/town. Every city/town has those "less desirable" places. The Inner Harbor and surrounding areas is definitely not one of them. The Inner Harbor is a tourist area and is kept clean and there is a normal police presence just like any other tourist trap. Stop trying to scare people off.

On the plus side if everyone has to wear masks, everyone there will get the joke when you say they look like optimus prime.

Now just imagine every booth is gonna have like a 2 foot tall plexiglass wall attached to 3 2x4s!

So, basically a summary of the first 3 pages of this thread is...

Those in the mid-west &/or west coast:

    Those surrounding the area:

    Most others:

seems to be an entertaining mixture of frustration and humor:

Awwwwww SHIT SON! I'll see you cats there!
Nah dude. Let the people who live here talk about what it is, don't scare everyone off just because you've read bad things about places in the city outside the 2 blocks you actually went to. I'm a native Baltimorean, an avid explorer of industrial abandonment, a hobby photographer of urban blight, and somebody who seeks out and slowly strolls the "places you don't go". Unless you're trying to compete with a local drug gang for heroin-retail real estate, you're not gonna get murdered. Also I think the development plans you're talking about aren't for the Hilton, they're for the convention center next to it, which Hilton has been trying to buy for years. And if they were to start demolition (which isn't likely) they wouldn't let it interfere with an event that's already signed a contract with them.

Now as for everybody else.... WHAT UP! GET HYPED! Seriously I'm excited to potentially meet some of you. Hit me up if you want to know the good bar districts, I love showing off my town. Shoot, if there's a slow afternoon I can even show you the coolest local spots for toys and collectibles, food and drink, or even (for the daring) enchanting forest trails around our scenic lakes. No matter what I am ready to party down with some robot fans!

Also didn't that Hilton JUST open in the last decade or so? Time is a bit fuzzy for me, always. So I could be wrong on that.

DOES Baltimore have cool collectible stores? Atomic Books and the walls at Paper Moon?
