The flap's there, but only if you want the extra range.

While we're making things up: It sure sucks how Newage Megatron is made entirely out of sand

It's better than going around bullying people on the internet.

neither MS or NA are perfect. i really wish i could take the best parts i like and mash them together into one figure
    • chest proportions, general leaner profile, paint apps and overall finish/styling of NA
    • cleaner mid section, waist & arms, full back and hand style/options of MS

Wow... I didn’t mean to derail this thread. Can a mod clean this up? The past page has nothing to do with Scaramanga.

Yeah Megatron looks so natural sitting on the thrown with an obviously borken back by human standards.

    Back to NA Soundwave please.

I have only ever seen the render have that much range. Everything else (including that picture of the prototype) uses the ab crunch for anything more than a slight raise of the leg. :lol

If it really can do what's shown in the render, then that's quite a bit better. It would be great to see it in pictures, if anybody has it in hand or can link me to some already posted. A crotch flap like that is one of my big peeves on bots, so with some proof I'll gladly take back that critique.

I do honestly appreciate you editing the post before I quoted it, to be less snarky. ("There's no accounting for taste.")

Apologies for the derail, though. I'm not entirely sure about Megawillbot's tone, but hopefully it was as playful as I was taking it. :)

But I can tie it all back to Soundwave in an actual and relevant way, and with genuine questions and critiques!

Does MST Soundwave have that limited range of motion before you have to activate the crotch flap? It looks a little better than Megatron, but still only about 45 degrees before you have to start raising it.

NA Soundwave looks like it might have limited range in the hips, particularly with the raised sections on the thighs. Here's hoping that's not an issue or it's fixed in design.

    FYI:

MST Megs's legs effectively have drop-down joints, so his upper thighs swing forward 90 degrees without moving the crotch flap at all. He can do exactly what the render shows.

That's great! NA Megs does a similar thing with the new hips.

Like I said before, I really do like both versions. If NA comes out with an Optimus that I like better, I might keep the MST version and pick up a more hulking Megs to go with it in a display

Thanks for the pic. I appreciate it. :D

It gets tough to tell sometimes, what with these companies being obsessed with using an extreme ab crunch (or crotch crunch, for NA) to show off even slightly dramatic poses in their promo shots. :lol

My personal favorite way of getting around having a flap like that is to have the crotch area be divided into a universal joint with the hip, like MakeToys Reflector uses.

I can see how that would be an issue with something like Soundwave since there's distinct details that you don't want split by seams, so hip joints like these are a good solution. Hopefully NA can adjust their render, or those raised sections on the hips aren't an issue.

If we don’t get an update by end of the week on this guy I have a feeling a September release is probably out of the question :(

There was a two month gap between the release of their last Brawn/Outback set (the clear ones, in April) and the release of the first Reflector set in June.

If that schedule holds, then Soundwave will be an October release (two months after the gold Reflector hits).

NA metallic Megatron. Replacement legs $11, chest/back add-on $26, so $37 to upgrade the figure. For me, I should have just waited for MST Megatron because even with the NA add-ons, MST Megatron fits my display better. I said suck it NA because I feel MST released a more complete figure for about the same original cost.

I do realize this is the Soundwave thread but I was originally responding to someone's response because I felt it was a spot on joke.

i think newage will do a better job on soundwave than magic square has.
i think newage will do a better job than what magic square did with prime when newage finally gets to that.

in general, i think newage is better than magic square.

what do you all think about newage vs magic square?

    :lol
