As a kid these guys have always been boss
09458327-999D-4865-A4C4-7994CE3A9BFC.jpeg And now as an adult even more so, ever since I finally busted out the TR deluxes yesterday and felt...underwhelmed. From being undersized, to the mold sharing...yeah I’m sticking to tha OGs!

A birthday present I received last week. Needless to say, very happy, this was my childhood VHS cover.

If I recall correctly, there are some slight mold changes on the Car Bros, but most are due to the fact it was a 20 year old toy at the time, and the molds just needed retooling to be useful. Or, to get them up to modern toy safety rules. Nothing major has been changed on these figures in terms of quality, or durability. Any of these figures with mold changes, like I said, is due to the molds being super old, or destroyed, or whatever. And, they had to make new ones.

Any flaw the G1 had, the reissues most likely have too. It's the reality of reissuing toys. You get all the good, along with all the bad that comes with it. Only way around that would be to make new toys.

Only just realised there was a G1 appreciation thread

Went exploring in the loft at my parents the other day and found all my old G1 toys which was a treat, some (most) were in a real state of disrepair but I'm still going to try and get as many looking presentable as I can, including The Big Guy himself:
    20200802_004022~2.jpg
Haven't managed to find his other accessories amongst the jumble of toys yet but I'm sure at least the guns will be there somewhere.

I'm debating whether to attempt repainting his cab, feet and chrome and applying some repro labels to restore him to former glory, or leave him as is to age gracefully.

Bonus picture of my Hot Rods and Rodimus :D

When did you pick up that G1 Optimus? It looks very similar to mine, the first Made in China version released in the 1990s in full grid-style packaging. Perfectly painted pale yellow eyes, a quite purple tone to his legs, head and hands.

Maybe it's just the lighting. Love these worn-out Primes!

My first G1 photo! Vintage Optimus Prime actually photographs as good or better than MP-10. Hope you guys like it! :)

Lol yep there's a lot of nostalgia attached to this one even though he's so worn out. I'm not exactly sure what version mine is. I grew up in Australia and it was bought some time between '88 and '92/93 before G2 started. Has the more indigo blue like yours. I can't find any year stamped on the figure or trailer though? I have it in my head he came in the grid box but being so long ago I could be wrong :p  I don't think it was the gold classics box though.

I recommend getting the Walmart G1 Optimus Prime reissue so you don't have to try repainting your vintage G1 Optimus Prime. HPIM0103.JPG

The Technobots overall are my second favorite Autobot Combiner group from G1. I’ll showcase my #1 favorite soon, just waiting on some Toyhax stickers for them. But I always loved their unique look and color scheme. They make a very bold statement as to their strength and intelligence.
    35CB71F6-261D-4C57-8BCF-56BAECF97F00.jpeg
And all this makes for a very tough looking gestalt mode. Presenting Computron.

I gotta say this is a very satisfying set of bots. They look great together, as a group and as a whole. I really dig the Toyhax enhancement set for Computron. I love that it gives him his look from the cartoon when he’s “computing.” I like that it also gives Lightspeed some much added color to his combined form so he doesn’t look so blank. It really helps bring the overall look together.

And as you can see from the second pic, it is possible to store all the bots’ weapons while in combined mode. Got a little creative, but it’s doable. Also, there is a way to make him look a bit sleeker, while adding some height to him.

You can fold Lightspeed’s hood behind him just enough to have clearance for the foot peg. Turn him and Nosecone around and that hides the kibble better. I guess you could leave them both extended either way for the height, but turning the legbots around makes him look more svelte. I like both ways honestly, I just thought it was a cool option.

Computron has a really powerful vibe to him. If only he were faster and didn’t overthink things so much, I think he would be much more effective a character. That’s mainly why he’s my #2 pick. The look is impeccable, but he has some character flaws that hold him back. Granted my #1 team has flaws too, but they have a different purpose and mission that I find more endearing. But as it stands, Computron is still cool.

Bit of Trainbot love today. Interesting to see if the MP Raiden rumours pan out. I'm out of the MP game but would like to see how they approach the design.

    You mean this VHS? :)

I was living in Europe when it came out on VHS, so my first video of it was the PAL version. Bought it on a trip to London.
