I agree. I think the reviewer probably wasn’t familiar with previous 4H/S7 figures. If he was, he probably wouldn’t have been surprised by the articulation choices.
I didn’t realize he had a Splinter review up, as well. Is the articulation significantly different than other Classics/Ultimates figures? With most Classics/Ultimates, you kind of know what you’re getting, because that buck has changed very little, since the Masters of the Universe Classics line (the one exception that I can think of is that they added a rocker joint to the feet, midway through the line). Ninja Turtles may be an exception to this rule, though because so many of the characters aren’t human shaped. The Turtles have their shells, Splinter is rat-shaped, etc. I imagine Shredder and April probably would have at least the same amount of articulation as other figures in various Classics lines, but perhaps the more animal-like figures in the line, may vary.
It’s pretty much about the same level of articulation as other 4H/S7 figures. It’s just with Splinter, some of it is hindered by the sculpt.
i'll go on record, i'm willing to give up the Foot from the April set and Baxter from the Splinter set. This is my Baxter and i'm gonna work on doing a custom, also i want Turtlebot from the 2003 show
I'm not going too hard on the S7 sets, despite loving the aesthetic (gotta impose limits somewhere, sadly). I have Metalhead preordered, though, because it looks like everything I want from a MH toy. When Neca revealed theirs, I thought it looked cool and all, but it was missing that shiny chrome/gold shell and the (hopefully present on S7) translucent brain thing in the back of the head. It's funny, I loved the TMNT cartoon, but I don't know if I saw the episode(s) with Metalhead. If I did, it didn't have as big an effect as the toy and his boss fight in the SNES game. The TMNT stuff that stuck with me the most into adulthood were the movies, the NES/SNES games, the original toy aesthetic, and TMNTA (wrestling costumes when, Neca?). So the S7 stuff is really scratching the right itch for me.
The only thing on Splinter that I'd call 'hindered' is his head; everything else seems to work fine to me.
Yes. S7 makes modern updates to the vintage toys while NECA is handling cartoon and movie inspired figures. What a time to be a TMNT collector. I know I’m not alone here in that I’m more familiar with the toon versions of some characters and more familiar with the toy versions of others. So no matter which aesthetic you’re after, there ought to be a figure for it...eventually.
I can’t swear to the accuracy of this, but I read somewhere (probably here or another message board) that they were going to include a second, more modern looking head sculpt for April that was less vintage toy inspired (sort of like what they did with their four Turtle figures). Again, I don’t know that for a fact, but someone had mentioned it.
There’s mention of interchangeable heads on the Fwoosh website as well as the Toyark site...but no pics that I have seen...
Brian Flynn said they were doing an alternate April head with a headset sculpted on. It's not going to be the "good" head. I don't even think the April head looks bad. People are just more picky about female faces and she's the only human character in the line whose face isn't covered by a mask, so there's no precedent for what a human face looks like in this art style. She's not classically beautiful by any means, but neither is she a double-chinned, inflatable sex-doll face like the vintage toy. She's fine, in my opinion.
Slash is my favorite, I really hope Super7 makes Slash because I love how playmates made him look from back in the day.
Thanks for looking out @GoggleV ! Don't forget to update the spreadsheet! I have yet to see anything in my area but some local folks have purchased the concert set, movie turtles, and Raphael/Casey. The hunt continues!
Also! If you haven't preordered Tokka and Rahzar, you still have time! Not to be selfish but if this leads to a Turtle Blimp, I'll lose my mind lol.
Got my Super7 Raph today! The critics were right, the articulation sucks! I know the ReActions aren’t everyone’s cup o tea but I love them. Especially Krang. “Game over man! GAME OVER!” “Wrong movie, dude!”
I saw 3 or 4 Beebop and Rocksteady sets at Target earlier this week, and the people on the NECA thread suggested I extend the information here. If you live in the US and need one (and they're still there) we can talk about working something out.
I already have these two but I'm sure there are folks here looking for them! Really awesome of you to offer.
