I really like Prime, it was so well done. Great Animation, Great Voice cast. Good story.

I think the only draw back for me is they couldn't introduce as many different characters as G1.

I honestly don't see the praise with Prime, going back it just seem boring, and dour. season 1 was fine, but everything else was...meh?

Beast Hunters was an abrupt end to the series. The Hub wasn't doing so great financially and Hasbro wanted something cheaper... Which led to RID 15.

IiRC the concept for Beast Hunters was also shoe-horned into the show no? I mean heck... There was only one Predacon until the film finale too...

I mean, at least Prime’s voice acting doesn’t make me immediately want to turn it off. I honestly cannot understand how people can possibly like Cyberverse or Siege. Both shows just sound like half the characters are nothing more than people reading words off of a piece of paper in a recording booth, and trying to make it sound either SuPeR dUpEr SiLlY or DARK AND GRITTY, depending on which show you’re talking about. And Cyberverse Hot Rod in the latest season somehow managed to make it sound like both.

No way. The transformer models were good and realistic looking. And the show storyline was awesome. Its successor the shape of the models were good but the texture not so much.

What? Starscream never sought "shelter with the Autobots" when he had the Omega Key. He deliberately set up a trap to steal the keys from the Autobot's base. How is that Arcee's fault in the slightest?

Then why did he take the keys to the Autobots?

He took the keys from the Autobots and presented all four to Megatron afterward, but he never gave the Autobots any Omega Keys.

Right, that was the whole Red Energon crap, but wasn't the whole point of him going to the Autobots in the first place being that he brought them the keys in return for shelter, then Arcee lost her shit because DEAD PARTNERZ, and then they took the keys but kicked him out?

It's been years since I last suffered through Prime so I could be getting details wrong.

Okay, now I see, you're remembering two different episodes. The one with the Omega Keys was a trick by Starscream to get back in with the Decepticons. The one where Arcee flies off the handle is the one where Starscream tries to defect because Airachnid was clearly about to steal his position as second in command. Prime left Arcee to guard Starscream while the rest of Team Prime was exploring the Harbinger. Starscream accidentally let slip that he was the one who killed Cliffjumper and that's when Arcee attacked. She really did fuck up on that one and everybody knew it. In Prime's defense, the Autobots didn't know Starscream was the one who killed Cliffjumper.

Honestly that episode was so great when I first watched it.

Only problem is nothing about it stuck. Arcee never learned her lesson, Starscream never successfully struck out on his own, and it ultimately felt like the conversation the episode had never happened.

I wouldn't say nothing stuck. The Autobots were dealt a severe strategic setback with the loss of Starscream, and Arcee's actions started a chain reaction that led directly to the Autobots' utter defeat at the end of the season. If Arcee had kept her temper in check, they would have had Starscream as an intelligence asset, allowing them to really strike back at the Decepticons and maybe even revive Cybertron with the Omega Keys. Arcee's integrity was tested and she failed, leading to all the Autobots paying the price by season's end.

But that would've happened even if the Autobots never encountered Starscream. By the end of the episode nothing was different from when it begun.

"Things remained as they were" isn't really what I would call a lasting effect. It's no different than if the episode never existed.

The episode ended with Starscream striking out on his own, he wouldn't have done that if Arcee hadn't fucked everything up. If Arcee had kept herself under control, Starscream would have been with the Autobots singing like a canary. Without this episode, the season 2 finale as it was constituted would have been impossible.

One thing I personally thought Prime did right or at least better than other series were the kids. I tend to get really sick of human companions but I thought the Prime kids were interesting and compelling enough that they had good chemistry with their partner bots

On a technical level? No. It's got the best animation of the franchise's TV entries (not a high bar admittedly, but still), and the voice cast is one of the most interesting next to EarthSpark's.

In terms of the story and writing? That's where the problems lie. As much as I'm not a fan of Beast Machine's overly grimdark tone and bickering, Energon's full-out amateur hour display, or Seige's tryhard nature. Prime's writing can be boring if it isn't throwing good ideas into the trash for ones not as good. It doesn't help that a good deal of the characters are poorly written in different ways (Prime himself being a glorified plot device, Arcee delving into her angst one too many times, Miko being Miko, Starscream's scheming feeling muddled at the best of times, Breakdown being wasted in terms of potential, I could go on). And you know the saying, "boring bad" is worse than "bad bad" 90 percent of the time.
