I’m a G1’er but I actually want the opposite at this point.

I think the franchise has leaned into either G1 or the movies for a long time now, which I get because it’s the bread and butter, but there’s so much lore and so many great ideas that could be explored outside of just those parts.

I love G1. But it has it's issues that I think could be solved by a remake. For example the animation is very inconsistent. The lore is also kinda silly and contradictory, and I think ultimately that the story can stay the same, but I think it needs a more solid plan and rules to work off of.

Tonally, I agree with you. Cyberverse does WfC better, IMO, as it retains more of the G1 goofiness but still has War For Cybertron's sinister undertones bubbling underneath its surface. Fans who ignore Cyberverse are really doing themselves a disservice. You have to think of it like Armada...once you get through the first 25%-50% of the show, everything really starts to groove.

That is such a terribly low bar to set. 50% is a failure by any standard form of assessment.

I loved the G1 cartoon as a kid, I used to chain watch my VHS's, but would I want a Sunbow style series now? I don't think so.
But I would go for G1 with a Beast Wars level of writing, or maybe even something with a bit of added complexity and still loads of fun like the 90s XMen animated series.

Well, the pilot of Firefly was a snooze-fest for 95% of the episode. Had I bailed, I would have missed out on the "you can't do that on television!" ending and not watched the rest of the series. By your standards, I should have turned the show off 40 minutes in.

Totally. I would love G1 looking like Armada. Armada looked the best, but I prefer the Floro Dery G1 designs. Also the new music from season 3 onwards is the best in any transformers show. The good episodes in season 1 and 2 are sparse, but season 3 and 4 is where it was best. And that's what I'm looking for in Transformers, that fun space opera with the occasional time travel shenanigans and unearthing dark secrets about the Transformers past.

50% being a failure is not "my" standard. I'm pretty sure 50% is a failure by just about any means of assessment.

As for your Firefly example, I think some math will show that it isn't even on the same level as Armada. Armada has 52 episodes. If 26 episodes out of 52 are good, then the show is only 50% good. Firefly has 14 episodes. We've established that the pilot is mostly boring. If 13 episodes out of 14 are good, then the show is still 92.9% good. So 1 episode of Firefly being bad is not even in the same ballpark as half of Armada being bad. I stand by my initial assessment.

    Ooo, math.

Okay, so an episode of Firefly is 45 minutes long. 45 X 14 is 630 minutes.

One episode of Cyberverse is 10 minutes long. The first season is 18 episodes. So about 180 minutes long.

    630/180 is 3.5...

So, to give Season One a fair shake you need to watch around four episodes of Cyberverse per one episode of Firefly.

Conversely, if you go total series of Cyberverse, that would 62 episodes - roughly the same length as Firefly. And you'd still need to watch four episodes to give it an equal shake.

Personally, I found Cyberverse to start holding my attention better when I got to episode 8 with "Terminal Velocity"...meaning I had to slog through about 12% of the series before my attention was genuinely piqued. But I've heard other fans say it took getting to about the mid point of Season Two. So, 50% is really at the high end. 25% is probably closer to median, as Season 1 draws to a close.

G1 is a product of it's time, and I feel every TF show should be different. I feel like an ideal TF show would be one made by TRIGGER. Animators and writers who are passionate about the franchise, a good mix of humor and seriousness, and TRIGGER's artstyle would be the ideal TF series to me.

Of a TF show made by TRIGGER? It doesn't exist yet, but thankfully, "More Than Just A Geek Spark" exists.

Yup, that's what I'm talking about all these years. I want a cartoon that looks exactly like that and with that level of detail. Basically Armada with G1 designs :D  That's also what I expect Transformers toys to look like, when I'm complaining that the current ones look too blocky. I want the G1 designs, but just more like japanese robots typically look like. They are also blocky, but not just straight up blocks. There's a lot of curves, bevels, etc. so they look dynamic. In that regard the Classics Prime mold is basically perfection on the style I'm looking for, the figure just could benefit from a little more modern engineering.

    I love that Rodimus right there <3 I want that as a poster :D  :D  :D

    edit:
No to forget the awesome colors. It's so colorful, such nice selection of colors. Awesome. I want the cartoon to pop and have awesome music and stuff :D  Modern shows mostly have soundtracks that may sound good, but are also so generic that you hardly notice it's there. I want awesome tracks that you can't await to hear again on the show and that you start whistling all day long.

    edit2:
I'm glamouring over these images for 15 minutes now :lol  It would be so awesome to have something like that.

    I hear ya @primatives
I feel the same way but i have watched the combiner wars cartoon that was online to watch and i liked it. I have branched out in part thanks to fellow members here helping me. So i can have love and support for G1 cartoon as well others i never thought I'd like but i do really like them. I can't thank guys here enough for opening my eyes to more than G1 cause there's so much more fun if you open your heart and try cause that's what i did. A good example of this was a discussion on beast wars and the figures coming on last part of this trilogy. Well a fellow member helped me when at first i said no but after talking he was right i kinda DID like the show after all and kinda want to know what the figure will look like when we get to finally see them whenever.

A shame Hasbro doesn't have the balls to hire them. I would be down for TRIGGER to write the show as well.

Good thing the new Netflix show just proves that g1 can be done and it can be done really great, if someone puts some attention to it :)

    Thats your answer OP.

I love g1, its silliness and it being inconsistent is part of the charm. That said, I loved the new Netflix show rebooting g1. It started out great, I really hope they can expand on it and make a great series. It really made me appreciate g1 even more.

    Nope.

Nothing recent that's meant to be G1 has hit the mark for me. So I'm satisfied with the 7 seasons (counting Rebirth as the season 4 it's billed as), movie and 3 specials that comprise classic G1.

I can rewatch Sunbow and the Japanese G1 along with re-reading Marvel to my heart content. New remasters or better reprints would be nice, but there's enough material.

Modern reboots are OK, but I don't care much if they roll with very G1 designs or not.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I think we have enough G1 already.
