So is 29+ supposed to be the cartoon or toy? It looks more like the toy, but that purple seems notorious for being difficult to photograph

 

Officially supposed to be a recreation of the cartoon, though in reality his shade varied between that of the regular 29, 29+ and some other more red shades of purple.

Personally if someone wanted to use 29+ as a toy-accurate edition, I'd say he's close to perfect - just slap a big silver backed Decepticon sticker on his chest. The other insignia are kinda invisible anyway (though for what it's worth, they're the toon accurate type).

The actual shade of 29+ isn't as dark as the og toy, from what I can tell from pics anyway.

I do think 29+'s thighs are a little too dark a grey for the toon, but his smaller eye is certainly more accurate (though really it should be even smaller!).

 

I have 29 and he's ok. Just wish he was painted. I'm all about the toon look, so it was confusing that they call this the anime version. I don't think either one really is the right color to be honest. Maybe they'll do an mp-29++ version lol

 

right there with you pal! I'm currently painting up my MP-29 because I had MP-29+ but didn't love the colour (I got him twice and still wasn't happy  ). Luckily he's not too much of a pain to paint, if you have any skills in that.

Good luck on the repaint. I have zero skill when it comes to painting stuff. Tried and failed miserably once before >_<. Think I might just stick with my original unless I can find a good deal sometime

 

Best of luck with your Shockwave, Sam! Personally, while I do also find my MP+ Shock a bit too dark, i'm fine with it in the end. I got the MP+ also for the tampo'ed Decepticon symbols, as I try to avoid stickers when I can.

Still not super happy with how the hands match the purple, but not really sure how to make them more pink. Anyone with a 29+ wanna sell me their opaque pink hands?  

 

My MP36+ arrived yesterday, and he's sooo shiny. I've had regular MP36 for ages, but have wanted the toy version ever since I saw it. However, like others in this thread, I didn't like how the gun barrel couldn't point directly forwards in bot mode, because of how the little lever (which probably has a name on a gun) sticks out.



Since I have no intention of ever selling him, I performed a bit of surgery, carefully slicing off the lever and moving it a forwards a bit.



I am definitely pleased with the result!

I'd literally just finished the fix when I took that photo. He doesn't even have his cannon attached. Don't worry, he's all sparkly and shiny now!

 

That looks great. How much did you shorten it by? Can you take a pic of what that part looks like now?

 

I'll try to explain. First, here's MP36 with his unchanged bit:



My first thought was simply to cut along the red line and discard the green sticky-out bit. He'd look great in bot mode and I could always pose the gun mode from the other side. But this felt too ugly!

Instead, I thought about moving this whole bit to the left, i.e. towards the front of the gun:



I got a nice sharp Stanley knife and spend probably 45-60 minutes very gently cutting through like this:



I then glued it back on again, shifted to the side:



It needs a tiny bit of tidying up - a couple of tufts from the cutting. But I'm going to wait until the glue has definitely set before doing that.

I was a bit scared of trying this since I just got him and he was expensive. But it was so very worth it, as he looks perfect in bot mode now!
