Yeah I think the Maketoys Groove being made of Pure explodium has me rather hesitant of getting anywhere near the handle bars on the OSKO either - at least until I have at the minimum a back up Groove that is. I'm not especially bothered about the others - other than minor fit issues on Hotspot which I can likely fix. But no hurry though, as I said I like the individual robots and I will more than likely get around to buying the Generation Toy Protectobots too sometime, I suppose I really should combine at least one set as I also have my Combiner Wars OSKO and my TFC one also as individual robots -- which on reflection is a bit strange as I have most of my Combaticons combined into Bruticus (except the Combiner Wars ones) & that includes a fair few Bruticus.

I just seem to like the Protectobots as individuals for some reason - perhaps because Streetwise, First Aid and Blades seems like characters having on their own to me more than say the Technobots do.

so, is there a way to fix the floppy arm joints? seen videos, and the joint between the elbow and shoulder seems the worst

Is there a trick to lining the front helicopter panels up? Mine seem to be off

Not exactly a trick, just needs to be perfectly aligned.

oh, maybe there is a trick, I remember sanding just a little the internal pegs to make them easier to fit on the rentangular holes.

You have to make sure any armatures/hinges are perfectly close and then its just a matter of force. The tabs did seem somewhat too bit so the tolerances will be off ie. they might not stay tabbed in/

Ok, found the issue :)  the canopy wasn’t glued in properly. Broke it apart (one socket broke, other one is fine) and re glued it, and it’s fine now :)  also, might need another groove XD

Yea it helps since I have a quantron. Seems its not as big as I thought, I was thinking very oversized like the jinbao devastator which is huge imo. I still like smaller combiners though, I want the original guardia since its smaller but the the KO is more tempting just cause if the price obv.

Box Set prices are appearing on Taobao - 780 yuan. Compared to about 850-880 yuan buying all 5 bots individually. So about 70-100 yuan cheaper. Not including shipping. Starts shipping beginning of Sept.

Also spoke to a few Taobao sellers that I'm familiar with, they said no difference between the box set and the individual bots. Not sure how true is that, since it's not actually out yet.

@Conran - can you describe the process to "pledge" his joints to make it tighter?

Reading through the thread, it sounds like the main fixes are

-tighten the combiner ankle balls, shoulder ratchets, and "elbows" with floor polish
-loosening the screws in the chest (I think this is the combiner breast plate pegs)
-sanding down/clipping the tabs for Vulcan's arms to tab in combiner mode

Did I miss any other major ones?

Floor polish, applied to a joint if it can be disassembled. If it can't be then very carefully applied using droplets into the seams the joint connects. Make sure you repeatedly move the joint around as much as possible so you get a thin even coat and not a single concentration. It'll usually work just make sure not to make a mess. There's other stuff too like something called Kiki fluid but I've not tried it so can't say much about it. The pledge floor polish method usually works anyway and it's cheap. Basically it's just using a clear and moderately unreactive fluid that causes friction to make an extra layer inside a joint so it stops being a dick and flopping around.

I'm a tad confused... I thought the box set was available like 6 months ago and as far as I know continues to be available still. @ShowZStore has the set for a nice price of $180 (link) which is where I bought my set.

I also had the individual released bots by yes model and the original Maketoys version. Both sets sold.

I do like this set quite a bit as I think the style is very cool. In terms of differences, I'd say that the MT version I had had all tight joints, some parts were somewhat fragile and a bit scary to mess with, but still fun to pose.

The individual released yes models versions were great with all right joints able to hold any pose. I recall some bits didn't peg in well (ie when u move the arm the joint was so tight, it would make the chest come apart), but overall pretty solid.

With the ym box set, also a great release with solid plastic, not afraid to mess with the figures and stuff pegs in better, but I have pretty much some loose joints on each limb bot. It's either hips or elbows or arms. I used Floor polish and now they are fine but was a definite difference on my box set vs. Individual releases.

I haven't combined so can't speak to that.

Scale wise, I think they go great with Warbotron Computron, original Generation Toy, Transformission Menasor, etc. They all have that same vibe and scale well together.

For budget conscious collectors, this is a great set with awesome value, looks great, poses well, nice mold... But it isn't the same size as is JB Devastator. I totally recommend this set. It's almost cheaper than mainline these days and much nicer imo.
