There are a lot of announcements and rumors being made, but until they go into production it means nothing. Many groups do this to try to drum up support for their ideas. Right now Lucas film is up in the air as the rumor is they are waiting for Kathleen Kennedy's contract to end. While she is announcing everything she can because if it starts and goes into production, she can remain attached and try to use that as leverage to keep her job.
It's like that Section 31 show Kurtzman has talked about for 2 years or Star Trek 4, which they have been talking about for 5 or more years. Just because they keep announcing it, doesn't mean it's happening if no one will fork over the money.

I’m sorry but these “rumors” are laughably fake. People are just listening to what they want to hear and are taking it as facts. George never had any major influence on Rise of Skywalker to my knowledge, so there is no Lucas Cut.

The sequels made billions of dollars, there’s no way Disney doesn’t see them as a success. Also, the sequels are Carrie Fisher’s final performances. “Erasing” then would be incredibly disrespectful to her memory and Lucasfilm wouldn’t do that. It’s sad to see stuff like this getting so wide spread.

You may be right, but they were proven right in the past, they leaked the plot to Rise of Skywalker, and even predicted Palpatine's return and were proven right about those when others claimed BS. As they say it's rumors they are getting from sources, and those sources were proven right in the past. So time will tell how it goes.

From what I’ve seen, Midnight Edge only ever regurgitates information from other reported sources. The plot of Rise of Skywalker was leaked by a Reddit user first. I’m surprised Midnight Edge didn’t also throw in Brie Larson in there to get more clicks.

I really doubt they'll outright erase the ST (how a guy called Doomcock became a "news source" I'll never know), but it is curious how the ST seems to have been effectively abandoned already. No spinoff film or Disney+ followup or prequels or actors begging to reprise their roles, nor anything like the Clone Wars or Shadows of the Empire. Literally everything but the ST.

I think unfortunately the sequels were really tiring for a lot of the cast. You can tell by the way they talk during the press junkets for rise of skywalker. Working on Star Wars is stressful enough bc of how huge it is, but the backlash of the Last Jedi, and the reshoots and rewrites of rise of skywalker were likely exhausting for the cast and crew. So I don’t blame them for not wanting to come back, as much as I’d like them to.

*If* we do get the sequel trilogy characters again, it’ll probably be in like 15 years after the hate has died down a lot.

Honestly, they should just scrap the sequel trilogy. It’s a narrative dead end. You could show Luke’s Jedi Academy, but we know it ends as a colossal failure. There’s nothing really interesting about the time period the Sequel Trilogy is set in since it’s just Empire vs Rebels again. I would much rather write a story set in the OT with the original Rebels vs Empire conflict if I had to choose between the two given that the status quo is much more clear and believable. Also, there is no room to expand on the Sequel Trilogy in the same way as something like The Clone Wars or Shadows of the Empire. The Sequel Trilogy happens within the span of 1 year, and TFA and TLJ even happen within hours of each other. So you can either write stories set before the sequel trilogy that really don’t matter in the grand scheme of things unless they start to retcon stuff or you set things between TLJ and TROS; in which case, you might as well just set it between ESB and ROTJ or between ANH and ESB because it’s the same situation but with better characters. At this point, I really hope The Mandalorian isn’t beholden to ST canon although I really doubt anything from the sequel trilogy will ever come into play in The Mandalorian outside of the potential rise of the First Order.

Yeah, I don't see Lucasfilm/Disney flat out erasing or decanonizing these movies. Doing so would essentially be admitting they messed up this trilogy. Regardless of whether you like these movies or not, I think everyone can agree that wouldn't paint Disney in a great light. Plus, it would be sort of a pain to explain it to the general audience. It's one thing to decanonize novels and whatnot (which are mostly read by the fanbase), but how do you explain to the massive amount of people that went to see these movies that they don't count anymore? They can't just write an article on StarWars.com saying "those movies don't count anymore". They'd almost need to put a disclaimer in front of the next movie or something.

Like I said a few pages back, I could see Disney sort of overriding these movies by making movies that function as sequels to the OT while indirectly (or even directly) contradicting the events/lore of the Sequel films. "Soft-decanonizing" them, essentially. Sort of like how Terminator: Dark Fate was a sequel to T1 and T2, but not to anything else. I actually think this is likely to happen at some point, because it's becoming a growing trend in Hollywood. Strict continuity seems to matter less and less, partially because your average Joe audience member doesn't tend to remember every detail and plotpoint of a movie they saw five years ago. I think Hollywood is beginning to realize that. I would almost stake money on some sort of "soft-decanonization" of the Sequel films at some point...either as a calculated move by the studio, or just because some individual filmmaker decides to ignore established continuity. But I don't think we'll ever see an article from StarWars.com that says "those movies don't count anymore".

The sequel trilogy shit on everything. A few throwback moments to please the fanboys and a major fuck you to the main 3 saga heroes. I'm sill surprised 3PO, R2 and Chewbacca survived.

I’m sure in 20 years the follow ups and legacy homages will happen if the prequels, Crap movies that they are, have the following they have now thanks to the people growing up with them now thinking they’re good because they grew up with them.

That’s not just Star Wars though, that’s just life. Eventually a generation and a following will appear for anything, no matter how bad, just give it time.

I agree. Little kids, who's first SW movie was Episode 7, might grow up with lots of love and nostalgia for the Sequel Trilogy. There are a bunch of little girls who probably still really like Rey, just let them have it...why Retcon it?

I work with a guy who's first SW movies as a kid were the Prequels, and he has tons of nostalgia for them and prefers them over the OT.

It sux, but I think they need to just own it, and not erase it. Mark, Carrie, and Harrison aren't coming back, there isn't anything left to save. Just move on to a different story....

I still say they should recast Luke, Han, Leia, and do the Thrawn Trilogy as an OT sequel. A couple years ago, I would have hated the idea of recasting, but now I think I'm at peace with it. I'd rather see that than the crappy CG renders like Leia in Rogue One.

I'm not totally buying this Retcon rumor though. But if they want to change anything, I'd be all for moving Kathleen Kennedy to a different position and let other people in control of storylines.

I disagree, since you have the mother of all infamous 'OT' content; the Star Wars Holiday Special, which everybody pretty much knows exists* and yet is never, ever referenced in anything beyond the existence of Boba Fett, who really is only even tied in because he was introduced there and has a firm place in Star Wars canon if the Holiday Special is ignored. Nobody ever even mentions Life Day.

Plus, the majority of the ST is just lazy rehashing of stuff from the OT, such as Hux pretty much being just a more Nazi-esque shouty imitation of Grand Moff Tarkin, Snoke was a complete nobody stand-in for an Emperor until they actually had to drag out Palpatine without even hiding the fact they couldn't convincingly explain how this occurred in-universe for years, and even Kylo Ren is just angsty emo Anakin all over again except actually evil. Sure, kids of today will have nostalgia, but it's going to be evident that the OT just did everything better aside from needing practical effects which still hold up to this day.

Honestly? The only thing I can think of really leaving a legacy that will be referenced is the sheer amount of vitriol against Kathleen that will never go away. She will be mocked and derided for the rest of time.

*(given how deep in the hole Disney is right now and having absolutely nothing except George Lucas to possibly stop it, now would be an absurdly good time for Disney to make a quick buck and actually release the most infamous piece of Star Wars history on Blu-Ray or put it on Disney+)

You’re comparing a multi-billion grossing trilogy to a one-time aired, never officially released Christmas special. Also the vitriol you describe is identical to what the Prequel Trilogy experienced. Ahmed Best contemplated committing suicide over the scorn he received for playing Jar Jar Binks. Now those movies are somehow being labeled as “misunderstood masterpieces” by its fans. Will the Sequel Trilogy have the same devotion? Only time will tell, but I think it’s premature to say they won’t.

I have to disagree there, to me the people at Disney/Lucasfilm seem to be in love with the Holiday Special. Lumpy, Itchy, Life Day, Boba's pronged blaster, and even the four-armed cook have all been canonized into Disney Star Wars timeline (and that's just from a quick Wookieepedia search...who knows what else from the Holiday Special is canon). I'm legitimately surprised they haven't just canonized the whole thing yet. Even JJ Abrams seems to want it to be canon.
