Well that might just be what the alt mode style is like, with a less lifelike jet.

I also hope we see G1 toy and Diaclone repaints of this mold. It’s cool that the cartoon deco has had a chance to shine in the MP line in the last 5 years. However, for Seekers especially, the G1 toy deco was very pleasing to my eyes, especially for Thundercracker(and the 1st 2 MP Thundercrackers weren’t dead on color matches to the toy deco).

The proportions appear slightly off to me - squat around the head/neck, with an oddly diminutive waist/upper thigh region, and finally wearing platform shoes - still a massive upgrade compared to MP-11 so there’s that I guess

    so it goes

But a clear coat IS paint. It is just as susceptible to damage as any other colored paint. The reasons TT's recent figures have paint chipping issues is a QC issue, not necessarily a "because it's painted" issue.

TT have plenty of examples of nearly indestructible paint jobs, much like the two you mentioned. However, just by virtue of using a clear coat does not mean that clear coat won't chip.

I is that true? Clear coat is paint?? I thought it was some polymeric lacquer.

    I dunno. Bigger.

I don't like small toys. And I don't like toys that are clearly compromised because they're too small for the level of complexity they need to display. When I get a toy like FT Road king or Stomp or Zeta onslaught or cang toys land bull in my hands I'm like, "Yeah, NOW we've got something!" I dunno if I'd buy every character that size, but the core cons? Megs, seekers, soundwave, shockwave and the triple changers? Absolutely! Scale chart be damned.

And what do you think paint is?

Clear coats are often the same base chemical blend as the paints, they just lack any pigmentation.

Same. Diaclone Thundercracker is such a beautifully simple design that I would gladly buy.
Ah I get what you mean. Have you looked into the Toyworld Coneheads?

Gotta be honest ...this reveal felt a bit underwhelming. Like...it looks fine, but not blown away.

I think the thighs looks way too thin.

The torso looks a bit long, which doesn't fit so well the likes of mp44 and mp36.

Hip skirts look like they’re not following the recent mp44, 45, 47 etc retraction skirt, which is a shame.

Not sure about the arm sculpt, the toon had very square shoulder and biceps but the mp 2.0 has different styling.

Not staying the design is bad, just not handing over my money yet.

This. However, I've given up hope that TT will ever pay homage to G1 thundercracker colors again after MP07. The TRU hasbro release was a wasted opportunity - too dark and glittery for cartoon, but too light for toy.

I literally just got all 3 of the mp-11 figures, skywarp, cracker, and screamer. Unless these new ones are Earth shattering, which I doubt, I will be keeping my current seekers. I don't hate them, but I got the toyworld coneheads and I love those more than the mp-11 mold.

Was I high or did this thread have V2 in the title and changed back?

Strange that the title got changed back to the inaccurate V3 after getting confirmation that the official designation is V2.

Thanks. But that's cheating - v1.5! Just kidding. I know Japanese numbering never makes sense.

Sure maybe the base medium is the same but Is there no resin component that is more durable than paint? Why tf have I been putting on hard coat on my miniatures or why do they sell enameled finishing sprays. Honestly not trying to be an ass. Can someone explain it to me? It just makes 0 sense to me that paint would be just as durable as hard coat.

I dunno. Thats why I pretty much only use a clear coat on my customs and models if I want to protect decals, or change a finish (flat to gloss, or vice versa)

But also, you're comparing user end craft/hobby products to commercial factory paints. And also also, in general, enamels will be stronger than acrylics and lacquers stronger than enamels. So, yes, I might use a lacquer clear coat to protect a weaker, acrylic paint job.

But, that's also the reason that simply clear coating, say MP-44's weak gray stripe paint won't really do anything. Sure, you've created a nice hard shell, but the problem is the gray paint wasn't properly adhered to the plastic in the first place, so it'll still chip.

Edit: I should add, that yes, adding a clear coat will definitely add some protection. And yes there are definitely some polymers and blends out there that are stronger than others. Like the commercial ones. Just like there are commercial paints just as strong. I more wanted to elaborate that it's not because it's a clear coat that it's inherently somehow stronger. Just like the correctly applied, commercial paint will be just as strong and durable as the clear coat.

It comes down to chemical concentrations, more than anything. Clear coats are available in the same acrylic, enamel, or lacquer varieties that the paints they accompany are. But they're specifically formulated for durability, rather than as a medium to carry the pigments. It's not like paints aren't durable as they are. The clear coats just afford an extra layer of protection.
