It didn't make enough sales of the figures, which CN apparently gets a decent sum of. But income made from the show's ratings did just fine (from what I recall reading way back then). CN does this crap all the time.
Cartoon Network would sooner drive their channel to the ground than admit that most of their ideas were bad.
I'm still sore over the whole DC Nation ordeal. But to everyone freaking out: They said that the show is "returning", not that it's getting a season two. They will have episodes left to air. They are most likely referring to that. We already know the producers, writers, and even the music composer are working on that Aquaman mini-series for HBO Max.
It is an utterly depressing realization that cartoons are not only not what they sued to be, but likely never will be ever again.
I get the feeling that cn is trying to hype up thundercats roar’s return to hopefully save the show.... Good luck with that.
I didn't even know they were trying to hype it up? Given how little hype they give to other shows these days.
The medium has never really been given much respect. Back in the day people thought a feature length animated film, in this case Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, was a joke, and the general executive opinion of animation hasn't really changed much if you look deeper into it.
eh, there are plenty of great cartoons out there. CN has Craig of the Creek, Mao Mao, Victor and Valentino, and We Bare Bears which are all pretty good. Disney has Amphibia, Ducktales, Big City Greens, and The Owl House. Netflix is building an interesting library as well with stuff like Kipo, Hilda, The Dragon Prince, and Carmen Sandiego. I don’t think the “cartoons today are shit compared to this arbitrary golden age” argument holds much water. There’s always a mix of good and shitty cartoons. Right now is a down period for action-oriented cartoons but there’s still plenty of fun and innovative shows out there.
Yeah, the output for action/adventure cartoons is lower, but there are still plenty there that don't get the support and viewership they deserve, even on Netflix.
In slightly related news, the original and 2011 shows are both on Hulu now. I’m watching 2011 now and GOOD GOD it’s great.
I saw, and was very excited that the original Thundercats cartoon is on Hulu. Though I do own the entire series on DVD, it's so convenient to point and click. But I didn't realize that the 2011 series was up there as well. I really need to give that show a rewatch.
I wish they'd bring back the 2011 show. And give it a proper intro. I think not giving it a catchy intro like the old one was a mistake. You had stuff like Ben 10 which had a catchy theme tune, and gave some idea of the characters, while with ThunderCats 2011, kids went went into it abruptly and had no idea who was who and where things were going (a lot of them knew nothing of the old series). There's a reason for intros. The original Thundercats one is iconic. It showed you who the main characters were, and some idea of what to expect, while being pretty cool at the same time. Also, it was so maddening when they were playing the same four episodes over and over again (at least where I lived), so that people got fed up and stopped checking for new episodes. By the time I got to the end of the first (and only) season - I missed a few episodes, because I hadn't realised they'd aired -, they'd killed it. . I'm seriously convinced that Cartoon Network deliberately sabotaged some of their series.
So to the dismay of everyone else in the world, thundercats roar will be back :/ Surprisingly, this show wasn’t axed when the Cartoon Network shakeup to place and the move to hbo Max is fourthcoming. So either the show did well in ratings (which I sincerely doubt), or because of contract reasons (it was mentioned before that there still episodes for season one).
Likely contract reasons, there are a lot of series that are approved now with 2 season or more orders, so they can't cancel them even when they are bombing. Which proves how stupid modern Hollywood executives are when they make it so they can't cancel bad shows.
I'm interested to see how the show will do now that Cartoon Network is in trouble with their whole cancelling shows and restructuring. I read that people claim that Thundercats Roar was one of the more successful CN shows.... On what grounds?
