Finally finished season 1 on Friday. Just a few short thoughts..

This was a satisfying first season.

I purposely would watch an episode breakdown on Youtube after watching each episode. This definitely helped with my understanding of the show. And its just kinda fun "bonus" material.

I thought they had to do the three timelines in order for you to fully grasp why the relationships between Yen, Ciri and Gerald were so important. It wasn't to be tricky or make things 'interesting.' It could make you confused but I don't think that was intentional. I thought it was a smart choice even though it did make the beginning a little tougher to jump into if you had no background with books or games. I don't have any prior background with the source material.

I'm really looking forward to season 2!

Heh, we couldn't make it past Episode 3 or 4 with this one. Even the missus who has defended Henry Cavill to no end for years just because she likes him (read: thinks he's hot - that is literally it) finally, after all this time and all his terrible performances, begrudgingly acknowledged "huh, yeah, shit, maybe he really just a bad actor". Because in this show, there is absolutely no denying it or running from it. Like, to astonishing degrees where we wondered how so many of these scenes ever got approved or made it into the show at all. That, and we legitimately laughed out loud several times at how he sounded like he was faking a bad accent when speaking in his own ACTUAL accent. I mean, holy shit, how bad do you have to be when something like that happens??

Cavill seems like a nice and cool enough guy, but man oh man, he should probably just stand in the background looking muscularly pretty and keeping his mouth shut from now on because the poor bugger is not cut out to be an actor.

True. I liked him as Superman but not for his acting, he simply looked the part. Here he is trying to do the emotionless badass gunslinger of some western movie, but he comes off more as if he was constantly smirking at somd joke only he gets. The guy playing Takeshi Kovacs in Altered Carbon s1 would have been better for this role. He can actually look like he is a dangerous badass, not just a prettybboy.
To my knowledge Yennefer and Ciri are only major characters in the third game. Not sure why the show did not start fr the beginning, explaining what Witchers are and Geralt's origins. It would not have left those like me who never played the games annoyed and in the dark about this world and its rules. I felt like this when watching Warcraft too... Having only played the three RTS games but not the MMO, I was dumbfounded about all the titles and names thrown at us the movie expects us to know.

Well they're still major characters, they are both focused on in Blood of Elves and Time of Contempt (the first two main books, after The Last Wish). Just Ciri teleports away and joins up with a gang of thieves for the most part and Yenn breaks things off with Geralt again. But still main characters in the rest of the books.

The point of the books is Geralt trying to get to Ciri and a bunch of stuff getting in the way.

Geralt (or anyone else?) isn’t exactly the most nuanced character. This is also not a story you’re engaging in on emotional level. regardless, I thought Cavil was fine. He had the right level of detachment from most situations, but he wasn’t apathetic and he genuinely did have some level of feelings and frustrations. Aren’t Witcher’s supposed to lack emotions? I thought that was mentioned somewhere.

Totally agree. He seemed to fit the character pretty well to me.

I don't think this show is trying to be gut punch high art like GOT attempted to be at times. I think its designed to be more of a fun escape with a bit of a nod to the sillyness of past syndicated fantasy shows.

Agreed. I’ve been conditioned by GoT to expect extremely terrible things to happen at any moment whenever it’s a fantasy setting.

I’m still getting used to the Witcher’s setting. Which is halfway between LOTR and GOT (if you want to describe it in very blunt terms).

It mostly reminded me of the 90’s Hercules and Xena shows in a good way.

Cavill also shared these photos on Instagram, with words from The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski in the caption: "'It may turn out,' said the white-haired man a moment later, 'that their comrades or cronies may ask what befell these evil men. Tell them the Wolf bit them. The White Wolf. And add that they should keep glancing over their shoulders. One day they'll look back and see the Wolf.'"

"His emotional shield can ward off any charmer, but his trusted sword he'll wield, will be matched with new armour," Netflix wrote alongside the photos on Twitter before teasing, "And what will destiny bring tomorrow?"

"Convinced Yennefer's life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen," the logline for Season 2 reads. "While the Continent's kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside."

Well, lookimg forward to this finally coming out. In an alternate reality we probably would have had S2 already. This is still slated for this December right?

Netflix generally doesn’t release trailers more than a couple months before something premieres, so some time by the end of the year probably
