I found a Warrior Cyberverse Windblade at Ross the other day for $6 and thought I’d have a go at getting rid of the gimmick and making it look better. Pretty pleased with the results. Before After The main thing I did was cut up the wings and put them on a ball joint so they could spin up and give a more accurate looking bot mode Before paint: Detachable VTOL Fans Cyberverse Windblade has this thing in the show where her VTOL fans fly off as sort of a weapon. I basically took the fans from the gimmick and repurposed them as these. They can still attach to the back of the wings via a new peg Another thing that I did was lengthen her neck so the head could actually swivel on its joint (not sure why it couldn’t since the promo pictures show otherwise). I also gave her RID 2015 Windblade’s sword and drilled a 5 mm port where the flight stand plug was for alt mode storage Overall very happy with it. I know jet and bot still aren’t 100% accurate (weird jet VTOL fans and 2 tail fins) but it’s close enough. I know my cuts and paint weren’t all perfect either but, again, it’s good enough for me. Thanks for viewing!
This looks great. I was thinking of adding the warrior Windblade to my collection but wasn't sure because they might release a better one in the deluxe line later. You fixed all that I didn't like about this one.
Nice work, hopefully Hasbro makes a real one so the rest of us don't have to sit here and envy your work.
If it's not too much trouble, would you consider doing a step-by-step tutorial of how you did this custom someday? I'd really love to get a Cyberverse Windblade toy and do this to it, but I'm extremely new to customizing and I'm scared of ruining it D:
Oh shoot I just did not see this, but your custom is looking really great. I’m glad you’re doing more with the paint. Is it ok if I take some pictures in a few days? I’m really busy but one thing abt the ball joints is that you have to cut off the posts and the thing where the screws go in on the backpack to make room for the ball socket. I then drilled a hole in the side of the wings (part of the reason why you still need the big bits from the gimmick wings to make it thicker for that hole) and glued the post of the ball joint into that hole. I glued the backpack on permanently with superglue since there aren’t any screws left to keep it on her back, but I might take a look at it again since there are scenes where she doesn’t have the backpack
Oh crap, thank you!! That would be great! Whoops, the first thing I did was snap off the gimmick bits because I thought that would be faster and easier than cutting them off. I could probably just glue them back on, lol. Take as much time as you need for the pictures, I really appreciate it!
This is stunning. I may be in the minority but the Cyberverse mold is my favorite of the character. Seeing what you have done with this has me wanting to attempt it with my own. *insert evil maniacal Million Dollar Man laugh here*
God damn sorry for the long wait. Life has been kicking my ass recently and I’ve been very busy. I’ll try and get some more pictures later but this is what I got together at the moment With the ball joints, you have to essentially cut out the post for the screw and place the balljoint socket into there. I also kept a bit of the gimmick wings because they helped me connect it back onto the main body. You can see this on the original post where there are two holes just under her armpits It’s just a ton of trial and error and I have no real good explanation, since the joints you use are probably different from mine. Just make sure they are high enough to have clearance to rotate up if you want to do the turbine things, you basically wanna put some sort of peg (I found a random bit of plastic) and then line it up to go into the circled space
Interesting... I'll try and give this a shot. What ball joints did you use? I've tried looking for them online but the only ones I could find are ball joints for cars or ball joints for dolls. And how'd you make the sockets for them to go in? Sorry for all the questions, I just wanna make sure I don't break the toy by accident. Don't worry about it dude, I'm getting my ass beat too. Take all the time you want. Thank you!!
I took my ball joints from one of the junker tf’s I have (which one it was I wouldn’t be able to tell you since the parts are all in the bin but the piece was originally grey) so the socket was already attached to the joint. It mostly was just a bunch of cutting around on both windblade and the socket to make them fit together. I’d recommend first cutting the post for the screw on windblade first though so you have a decent reference. Once the cutting/shaving is done, it’s just gluing things together
Damn, I don't have anything like that. I'm beginning to realize that I'm woefully unprepared for toy customization :' ) I'll look around and see if I can rustle anything up, though.
