Police nab suspected Transformers toy counterfeiters
The KO Transformers Toy creator Wei Jiang was shut down by Hasbro China. I can't believe this. They made some excellent toys. I just can't believe this.

 

No high quality toys for third world countries anymore.

Truly unfortunate.

I for one was a fan of what they did, and have some nice pieces in my case.

Problem is, they were after all, ripping off someone else’s work. But then again, all unlicensed 3P does and at some point they might find the hammer brought down on them too.

So really, they were in the wrong to do it and we are in the wrong for supporting it. But what can I say? Do I care? Kinda. If something out there is awesome I’ll get it. It’s only shaped and painted plastic. I have bigger things in life to worry about whether my awesome figure was blessed by a lawyer.
Has / Tak, 3P, and KO are the reasons why I have nice things.

I know, I know. It's been subject of much discussion on here, I'm just taking the piss.

Amazing toys, big fan. Ultimately though, all of this is luxury and nothing is here forever so we enjoy it while we can. Especially thieves who get caught

Sorry, I don't know the meanings of colors around here. I am relatively new at this website. If BLUE means Sarcasm, what does RED, ORANGE, and the other colors mean?

 

As far as I know, nothing. And I think that's the first time I've ever used blue text too. I only found out about its use via this site myself.

 

No problem. I don't think other colours have any real meaning, although I could be wrong.

Maybe if we manage to stay on track this one will be allowed to stay? Fingers crossed.

We have the OG thread, the appreciation thread, and this one thread.

 

Difficult, due to the tribalism surrounding the different areas of collecting and that this incident brings everyone round the table.

You've got people who are gutted and think it's unfair, people who are elated a KO company has been wasted, people who are gutted but accept and understand the reasons why, pricks who just wanna kick the hornets nest, people who wanna debate the difference between unlicensed transforming robots and counterfeit Transformers and all of the horrible grey areas in between, and mods who have their own feelings towards the situation but still need to ensure that everyone plays nice when the sheer difference of opinion and emotional investment in the toys we collect, not to mention our differing moral stances, encourages heated argument.

 

And another thing. For reverse-engineering from crappier toys, the Wei Jiang toys were better than most Hasbro toys. Like Wei Jiang's Detective, a version of the original Age of Extinction Hound figure with wheels that ACTUALLY TRANSFORMED INTO THE FEET and added his belly armor. And Hide Shadow, an oversized Studio Series Blackout with better detailing, better paint, and a panel that covered up the gap on the helicopter's bottom, which, with the tail section that can come off, makes a little battle scene with the Scorponok and some green Army men.

 

So from what we're hearing, is this pretty much the end of Wei Jiang and all those companies that seem to be off-shoots of it, or is there a chance that business will resume eventually, like how some 3P companies have "gone under" and reemerged under a new name with new designs (like what people think happened to Fansproject and Fans Hobby)? The mention of an arrest and the incriminating evidence don't exactly give me much hope for the latter, but might as well ask.

Also, that $14 million number seems incredible. I know that there's money in 3P manufacturing if you can get away with it, but I didn't know there was that much money in it.
