As a NewAge collector I just hope that $250-$280 for a combiner is not the new normal for legends scale. $50 a pop basically which is about on par for MS/NA but still...

Just do not rely on those sites.
They push the price more and more with newer releases.
Show Z had MST Soundwave for $49, on aliexpress, $35, tape team 40 on show Z, 29 on Ali.
I just wait untill those store have them and see what the price will be.
With 25cm it will go nice with Weijang Devy

    Whooo boy..

    For comparison (onShowz), Iron Factory's Bruticus's parts were $59, $69, and $60, totalling $188. The DJD set was $60, $60, $57, and $39, totalling $216.

I wish Menasor's price was lower, especially since it's MST's first combiner. I might need to wait and see on this one.

This post is important and a good point. There is no way even if you factor in materials, development time, production costs and all other factors that a Legends class figure (even with all that this trailer eventually does) should cost this much. I simply do not believe that the current cost of this figure is anything other than greed on the part of Magic Square. Prove me wrong here as I'm more than willing to see reason if alternative facts are reasonably presented.

If Fanstoys can manufacturer figures with diecast and premium paint and at MP scale for around the same price if not cheaper... how in the world does Magic Square justify this cost when they are using nylon, very little if any diecast and are aiming for a much reduced size class? I just don't get it.

Wow, the price for MS Motormaster is insane for a Legends figure. It's within spitting distance of what I paid for XTB Motormaster. Granted that was just the bot and not the trailer but still. Something is really off here.

They are becoming some grade-A jabroni-ass swindlers as of late:

    • Exhibit A: packing Laserbeak in with Soundblaster forcing people to shell out for a B-list figure to get the A-list tape. Also, stickers only if you preorder
    • Exhibit B: making Megatron "accessories" that include typically standard extra hands a preorder only item
    • Exhibit C: preorder only parts for Menasor and some next level price gouging

Correction: stickers only if you're within the first 500/1000. And that's not you, the buyer, being within the first 500/1000 to order from a retailer. That's your retailer placing their order within the first 500/1000. All the while, you have no way of knowing if you're getting the stickers or not.

This is pure conjecture on my part, but labor on putting these guys together is not insignificant, lots of itty bitty pieces that have to be assembled just so. And the trailer is probably equal to at least a second figure, unlike say Prime's trailer which was much more simple and completely hollow. Not saying the cost is on point or whatever, just that it's not one legends bot for the price, it's basically two (one of them with double the plastic) plus several heads and fists and guns and stuff.

Please stop making sense. People really want to feel personally slighted by this and you're making it hard for them to start up their rants again.

Agreed, i think people have trouble to include the whole trailer/body in their math.

Regardless I also that he is far from cheap but the last new age I brought was starscream and he was far from cheap. I think it is an overall trend

I'm not being unrealistic and forgetting what ironfactory combiners cost.

I'm just cheap in general and wouldn't pay what the ironfactory ones cost either.

So got the $60 KO instead.

Everyone's purchases of the original expensive one is appreciated.

LoL i'd have to agree with you, but i'd like to call myself "frugal" instead if you don't mind. :p

i didn't buy and wouldn't buy any of those IF combiners at those prices. just too expensive for my budget. so i went with a KO for war giant and just bought catastrophe second hand.

so i'm curious what the consensus is of this combiner being too expensive. it's funny that i feel that for the two limbs packaged for $50-60 is reasonable given my spending habits, and assuming i actually like/want the figures as individual bots. but i think motormaster is a priced too high being over $100. also i don't think i want to pay $200 plus for the entire thing, given i wasn't willing to spend that on the IF combiner, and i like that more than i do this. yes i'm a conflicted individual.

guys… chill! LoL, i never said IF combiners are overpriced or not. just asking if it's just the cost of motomaster, or the set as a whole that is overpriced in ppl's eyes.

if you calculate a reasonably nice figure from MS is approximately $40-50, like MS prime, soundblaster or megatron, and you multiplying it by five for total five figures, you are already in the range of spending $200+. so why is it that this set of five figures price tag as a whole is too big a pill to swallow? i've bought all three of those i mentioned, so added two more similar figures wouldn't be a stretch. so do you guys think MS prime, soundblaster and megatron overpriced too?

personally, i would much prefer each of my legend figure cost in the range of under $40, and ideally around $30 or less.

Ok. I have a question for folks.

What are your expectations of a legends based figure?

I'm talking paint, accessories, parts count and price? What is a good example of what you want and what you feel is acceptable?

Right there with you. In this set we're getting 5 legends scale bots (based on MS past experience we can safely say will be quality legends releases) a transforming skeleton that is the size of an MP bot and enough accessories and add-ons to make multiple configurations of Menasor.

We know that the actual cost of materials isn't a big factor in these bots. It's parts count, paint and development that play the biggest parts in cost. And we know Motormaster alone was completely redesigned.

I'm fairly confused about what the expectation was for this set, price wise.

The limbs have no reason to cost that much. They're carbots which should put them in the $30-35 range, not the $45 (Soundblaster plus Laserbeak) or $50 (Soundwave plus Rumble and Autoscout) range. Motormaster, if he were alone, should be in the $40-50 range. With his trailer, I would expect him to be anywhere from $90 to $100. $150 is just too much.

Magic Square Trailbreaker is one of my favorites and is pretty much ideal. Magic Square Optimus is a good example of what I'd want from a more high end figures with the accessories and trailer and such. Extra accessories are nice but I don't need them if they're just going to drive the cost up. I do like some of the innovations MST had made since their early days: in particular I like the way that hands fold away on Soundwave and the Seekers, and I like Soundwave's and Reflector's leg transformations. But I also feel like Soundwave was pushing the limit of what I want to pay for (and that's saying nothing of their bastard decision to bundle Laserbeak with Soundblaster). Megatron pushed it further but I justified it because he's special. He's the leader and he came with all those fun accessories. But I don't want to keep paying $50-$60 for legends figures. I'd rather they stick to the $30-40 range.

There's nothing to chill about. No need to read so much drama where there isn't any.

Whether we believe MST and IF overprice their figures or not, it has no effect on anyone else's opinions. Us believing the set should be cheaper also has very little bearing on how MST chooses to price their figures. I doubt anyone that shares this opinion expects the price tag to change because of it.

It's a pretty wide spread opinion, if this thread and MST's Weibo page is anything to go by.
