One of the initial images they showed(with the Transformer in front of the Top Gun logo) did actually have a cooler grey and no weathering. While doubtful, I hope that’s what we actually get.

Because...I was thinking, if done correctly .even if by customization, then this guy could serve as Mankind's robot counterpart to either of those Nightbird deluxes - since she's pretty much a human made "transformer" too.

 

All that tampo work need to be painted over ugh. You would need slide decals to replace them.

 

The more I think about it, it's going to take a hell of a paint job to spruce up that bot mode. Any time I see a lackluster toy design I can't help but feel kind of bad for the designer who *may* have felt like they were putting a lot of heart into it. But, it's a weak robot design further weakened by an unimaginative deco. I don't know...maybe it was a rush job or something. But, the engineering looks like something from Classics circa 2006. No ankle rocker (that I can see, anyway), odd proportions and an overall unrefined appearance. I really do want to like it given how much hype was built up around the idea of a transforming F-14...but this is not what I expected it would be. Fingers crossed they can work some kind of magic on it in the future.

 

If ever there was a figure that Toyhax/Reprolabels needed to try to fix, this is it.

 

I was 100% sure I was getting this until I saw the hideous robot mode. I appreciate that the vehicle mode accuracy was more important, but I can't appreciate the poor paint apps nor the nasty manilla colored plastic.

What is with HasTak being unable to closely match the colors of jets? Jeez Louise.

wow, hasbro missed the perfect opportunity to base this off of the g1 jetfire toy. It was pretty much and f14.

 

Thinking of personally picking up 2 at most. Methinks this could make for a good Dreadwind and/or Leozack...

 

And design is owned by another company. So even if they wanted to, they couldn't.

 

Even coming close to that design gets Harmony Gold all twisted up. No chance Hasbro ever gets to use that design in the states.

I would of though the vf1 design is different to the f14 tomcat which is owned by northrop grumman
Change the robot design and change the head to look different to a vf-1s, a, j and r

Plus IF remember hearing correctly shoji (sp?) the designer of the vf 1 was inspired by the f14 tomcats

Yeah, I like the look of Gigawatt's packaging quite a bit. Maverick is pretty disappointing by comparison. It's just...bland. At first I was hyped, but after the initial excitement wore off, I realized I really don't much care for the bot mode or the packaging, and had no intention of displaying him in alt mode. Pre-order cancelled.
