I keep everything until I run out of space, which I hope/don't think I will.

If I sell/trade/pass something along, I did my part and it will be complete for the next collector.

I only have a small area to display my figures, so they get rotated often.
The ones not on display get re-packaged and stored.
Without the packaging, they could get damaged.

I used to but the boxes just take up too much space. I had an intervention with myself and haven't looked back.

I only keep boxes if it's necessary. In general, whether 3rd party or official, it goes.

I throw away packaging once I open one for display. I have a pretty good system for keeping up with any extras like weapons and instructions. Although I have some still in packaging because I have not decided to display them. My wife saves boxes for other things she gets in all the time and that annoys me enough. I tried to save packaging many years ago and I just kept complaining it was always in the way.

I buy loose and toss all boxes.

A lot of the artwork is beautiful, even in the mainstream lines, but I’m also in the “they eat up too much space” crowd.

The figures take up enough on their own.

In my old town home I'd keep they sturdiest boxes. I'd wrap them in black duct tape, and use them as display bases so my figures would be displayed multiple levels. All other boxes went into the trash.

Now days boxes go right to the trash. My toys will have a more dioramic feel in their future display.

Also bare in mind boxes and thin plastic are pure fire fuel. A house fire could quickly go from manageable to completely untenable should your pile of boxes ignite.

I keep 'em... for the moment. My place is pretty small though, and I am rapidly running out of places to stash the boxes. However, I am worried about affecting resale value (if it comes to it), and losing track of all the displaced accessories.

Does the original box affect resale price significantly? I would love to free up some space, plus use any decent box art for decoration.

I kept them for years. But then I ran out of room. I had boxes shoved into and onto the tops of every wardrobe and cupboard, under tables, piled up in the garage. Every time a new MP came in I'd take the box, go to one of the towering piles and try to place the new box on top, like a giant game of Jenga. In the end, it just wasn't practical long term.
I barely have room to display the figures - finding places to store the boxes out of the way was just too hard. About a month ago, I got up the will, pulled out all the foam inserts, piled all the accessories into a couple of boxes, flattened the packaging and took them to the local recycling bin along with all the insert cards and manuals.
I never read the instructions (I need a video to help me work pout transformation) so they were chucked. I contemplated keeping all the character cards from my MP collection but in the end, like the boxes, there was no consistency in them. Takara, FansToys, XTB... every manufacturer used different designs for packaging and insert cards, many of them weren't even consistent within a single companies own product line... so they got chucked as well.
I only got through about half the packaging before I ran out of room in the back of the car to take them to the tip, so the remaining boxes are waiting for another "productive day".

I don't, but I wish I kept a few like the DX9/UT stuff. The art on those is amazing.

Actually, my son has started keeping his boxes so he has stacks of Studio Series and "Generations" boxes in the corner of his room. When I see it I always think, "damn, I wish I kept some more boxes to add to his collection".

In saying that, boxes take up way too much space and make it easier for my wife to figure out how many more bots are coming into the house lol

I hit a storage limit earlier this year, and I tossed the styrofoam or plastic inserts out of pretty much all of my 3P MP collection, except for those that needed the inserts to fit the pieces (like Soar's stand), or those with windows (like Scoria, or most of OM). It pretty much dropped my storage needs in half. I collapsed the boxes, and bagged the accessories, instructions, and cards. It was extraordinarily liberating.

I don't care a jot for the packaging. The only reason I try to buy at least one item in a box from HZJ with each order is because otherwise they come in a padded envelope. I've not had anything damaged so far, but I've heard other people's horror stories, so I prefer to have mine come in a styrofoam block.

Any and all packaging it thrown out. It is, by definition, rubbish, even if some of it can be pretty.

If the box has artwork, I generally keep it. Feels more complete and better protected. I also just like good artwork.

I throw all my boxes into the road. Sometimes at passers-by.

I had a plan to sell them along with C8+ figures. Then I had kids and those figures are no longer in the same zip code as C5 (still very muh loved but let's face it, those are only good for parts now).

Then we homed a stray cat come in the house during the cold cold winter months and it pissed all over the empty boxes. So I had to het rid of anything cardboard.

I'm better off, though, because I found all sorts of bugs and mold and other unidentifiable fibers between them and they really were taking up about 125 cubic feet that I was able to use for TF totes and shelving. Yay!

Usually no, unless I'm keeping the figure MiB/MoC for planned resale down the road

I will keep the box if teh artwork is something I really like though. Like the three boxes the iGear Coneheads came in are some of the few boxes I kept

Regarding KO's, I usually throw away the clear clam shell packaging and keep the flattened boxes to save space for official and 3P boxes. Jinbao OS Gravity builder is an exception, the boxes would not flatten well due to the thickness of them, and I thought if I ever move again would help protect them...but they stay in combined mode on display so...more or less wasting space with those boxes lol. But yeah would rather flatten boxes than outright throw them away, if for no other reason than moving or deciding to sell in the future.
