?

Do you buy and keep your original 3p packaging?

  1. yes, i try to always buy boxed and keep everything

  2. no, i buy loose figures and throw out any packaging if received

  3. i keep some packaging for certain 3p brands or i find nicely designed and throw out the rest

  4. i keep packaging for 3P MP scale and don't bother with direct KO or legend, etc

just curious what others do. i'm posing this question more towards i guess KO and smaller 3p legends figures that i personally collect, but i'll leave options open for other 3p figures in general as well.

personally i like to keep all original box packaging, especially the higher tier premium ones from NA, IF and MS. but lately i've bought a few without packaging, mostly cheaper 3p legend scale KO and particularly a pair of KO combiners to save on some money as it's cheaper in price as well as cheaper on shipping.

and if you do keep packaging, is it because you want to, or because just in case you ever sell something, it provides better value? and for those of you who buy second hand, does it matter still to you if it comes included in it's original packaging?

so what do you all do and why?

I keep it for all 3rd Party figures - it really affects the resale value without them.
KO's - Nope, as it doesn't affect the resale value much.
Official - Only Takara combiners/very special box sets - everything else goes out.

Only keep third party and MP as it helps the resale value if I decide to sell and then which I think is the more important factor, makes it easier to ship them out. Everything else in the bin.

If I buy second hand then it really doesn't bother me at all. Recently paid above and beyond for a perfect fusion Cesium with no box, couldn't care less tbh as I'm unlikely to ever sell that any time soon.

20200719_100008_HDR.jpg I keep certain boxes. If there's a line where I'm trying to collect them all, I keep the box. So I keep all my Hasbro and Takara masterpiece boxes. Ditto for my revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi collection. Basically I keep the boxes that look good/match on the shelf together. The XTransbots stunticons came in some cool boxes that match up with the Takara MP boxes pretty well, so I kept those too.

Otherwise, I often order figures with no box to save a buck or two. I.e. legends, diaclone, lost planet, OS gravity builder, etc...

If I saved all the boxes, I'd run out of space. And I feel I have a lot more dedicated space for boxes than most collectors/displays, so I try to get rid of the ones I don't really want for holding accessories or don't fit in with the other boxes on my shelves.

[Edit] - in the photo, there's a few boxes in that section I would normally get rid of, like the lost planet box. But right now they're being used as a cat deterrent to keep little Crowley from climbing my shelves. Ditto for the stuff up on top of the shelves, those should all be with the other MP boxes, and I prefer the clean look of nothing up top (except my Voltron centerpiece). But I needed to fill that space to keep him from getting up there.

Honestly it depends upon the package. If the box is very plain, no real distinguishing markings (i.e. the Warbatron Computron giftset), then in the garbage it goes. As for the inserts, if I'm keeping the box, I'm keeping the inserts as well. Though as space becomes a bigger issue, I might just have to reconsider and start flattening the boxes and tossing the inserts.

what about conditions of the box? you get upset or annoyed if they are delivered damaged or creased? how bad is bad to you were you consider tossing a box which you would have normally kept? or do you keep it regardless just so you can say you have the box?

Straight to the recycle bin. The difference in resale price with boxes is minimal and not worth keeping the clutter. Space is more valuable than the boxes to me. Especially once you get a decent sized collection.

That's another case by case for me. If I can display the box in a way that hides damage, I will. (Several of the yamaguchi boxes in my pic are actually smashed up pretty good, but I got lucky that the damage is on the side I do not face outward.).

Sometimes I'll flatten a damaged box, weigh it down with something flat, and try to restore it to it's original shape. Sometimes I'll do something crazy, like order a KO just for the box. (The AY Deadpool is a good example. I won the official figure on eBay without box, then bought a 20 dollar KO just for the box to display.)

And when all else fails... I just toss the box. You can't see my full collection in the above pic, but if you could you'd see there's way more MP transformers than boxes. A few just didn't survive shipping.

The only reason I keep any packaging at all (with my small-ass NYC apartment) is for resale value. I buy a lot of transformers but I also tend to sell a lot. I don't keep any mainline packaging though like studio series. That all goes in the garbage after I've had the figure for a couple days and decide it doesn't need to be returned for any reason. For anything more expensive or rare like 3P stuff or MPs or expensive takara exclusives though I do keep the packaging.

I keep the boxes because I still can and most of them look cool, especially the ones from GT, TFM and KFC. The uglier boxes are the ones from XTB, FT, OM, or TFC.

I used to keep them all. Then I stopped keeping the legends packaging. Now I'm slowly scaling back my mp packaging as well. I've thrown away a few - mostly KO boxes or others that just seem cheap. I'm in the process of selling a few but I and the person buying them were shocked by the price of shipping and we're trying to figure out a way around that. In the end, I intend to keep all of the more compact packaging and throw out or maybe sell the larger ones: the theory being that I can put the smaller figures back in their boxes when it comes time to pack up and move but the bigger ones I'll just put together in boxes with a lot of padding to save space.

I keep all 3P packaging. Boxes are usually nice.

I also keep official MP boxes and bigger CHUG boxes (Titans, sets), as well as any G1 I come across. The rest of CHUG I typically flatten and/or cut the plastic and keep the cardbacks.

No, I have some with boxes but most of the times, I order with out the box.
It's for customs, everything above € 22/$25 needs to be declared and taxed.
3 figures with out box from the same store will pass Dutch customs faster without a check up instead of figures with boxes.
Besides, these are my first Transformers since the G1 toys, I will never sell them, older figures that will be replaced with newer will go in to alt mode for display.
Like MFT Megs now in Alt and Jinbao for bot display.
