well, I’ll say when I read the comics(stopped due to having to cut back.), the only thing that annoyed me was when Hasbro shoehorned in toy related storylines instead of letting stuff come about naturally or letting the writers do their own thing. That’s part of the problem with big businesses today aside from trying to screw as many people as they can for as much money as possible, marketing to try to get that extra ounce and regardless how it feels in the greater context of things. Just let the damn stories develop and see where the hype comes.

This obviously isnt caused by "tRaNsFoRmERs cOMiCs aRe bAd" due to the fact that IDW publishes alot more than that. The comic book market in general is not doing very well because of the move of entertainment to digital. (And people pirating the comics too) Also 30+ percent of disposable income has been eliminated by the rona. IDW probably had no other choice to be able to stay afloat.

The Western comics scene was in bad shape before the pandemic, I'm sure people will exaggerate the damage done by the 'Rona to avoid addressing the big elephant in the room but don't be mistaken: the big publishers had already done a fabulous job losing money and supporters with their terrible products and unprofessional behavior. Marvel and DC are in pretty bad shape right now, and they're much bigger than IDW ever was, I'd genuinely be surprised if IDW was still around in another decade or so.

I find the passive aggressive responses amusing, how dare people not just consume product and get excited for next product.

I wasnt exactly trying to seem passive aggressive if it came across that way. I completely agree that the comics market has been in bad shape since before the brovid noughteen. I think hasbro's efforts with steaming services have been kind of a flop so far, but if Siege turns out good they may ditch paper comics in favor of more "modern" forms of entertainment

Hate to break it to you but that’s all transformers media. Sorry to say to it’s all a big commercial to sell plastic crack and it didn’t kick off with IDW. The underbase storyline was marvels version of the 1986 movie. A story to kill off all the old toys that weren’t on shelf anymore.

to say you don’t like how hasbro has IDW put toys in the comics is like saying you don’t like any media after season one because they needed to put the new toys. Transmetals 1 and 2 were included to sell toys in beast wars. No difference and it’s not like IDW sacrificed continuity to include the toys it was the opposite. They resurrected dead continuity and continued it

The Rebirth arc is a good example from G1. Transmetals were meshed into the story very well so that it didn't seem as forced. CW in IDW seemed forced so that was really the issue. I didn't like the CW arc but it was actually because I didn't like the whole thing with all of those mystical elements at the end. IDW did pretty good all in all with the 2005 continuity.

the combiner wars arc certainly handled much better than the cartoon version of combiner wars. I’ll admit that it was rushed. Totally was. We had a monsterbot and mainframe included in the protectobots and it was drawn by a fan! There’s still zero answer why that happened but it’s still not the worst thing sample of toy inclusion. Tigerhawk from beast wars, omega supreme in marvel, the protectobots, predaking and abominus in the cartoon and octanes inclusion in the original cartoon is way worse. Especially considering starscreams ghost was suppose to be about blitzwing but octane was given the spotlight because of his toy. Way worse toy inclusions have been done than anything IDW did.

Making 9 million things while being financially strained is usually a bad idea. I don’t know what made them think making new series in their condition was a good idea.

Although the Transformers comics are bad, they can't be blamed or even connected to this particular development in any way. The real problem is that IDW is trying to do too many things at once and now their house of cards is starting to collapse.

It's so refreshing to read a post by someone who doesn't see an automatic causal connection between their own standards of quality and the fortunes of a comics company.
