As for the partsforming... it doesn’t bother me as long as everything has a place to go in both modes. The problem now is that they’re trying to make $20 show accurate figures and have a budget to go on as well. Something has to give.

Since I wasn't around for the Netflix wave one reveals, how long after they were revealed did they start popping up in stores? I'd like to know so I can keep a heads up.

Like the first spoiler pack (Ultra Magnus), it contains black playdoh. Playdoh is made with wheat.

G1 figures are also almost 40 years old and have extremely limited posability and terrible proportions. I wouldn't want those on a modern Transformer either.

I will give it to Armada that they rarely had partsforming. However, I think at least part of that was because they sacrificed a lot in aesthetics to go with the gimmick of the day, and there were a lot of, let's say, liberties taken with one mode or the other to accomplish that. Plus stuff like Armada Sideswipe is just horrific. But they were pure fun to play with: recently I unearthed a bin of Energon toys from my garage and while there were a ton of loose pieces I had to put back together, my son had a blast with them. And Energon Scorponok stayed inside so I could fiddle with him.

I do think that most people would look at that era of toy and say that in general engineering has vastly improved since then. It is a bit more of a challenge, though, to make an aesthetically pleasing robot fold up into an aesthetically pleasing vehicle and have it closely match stuff that was done via animation magic, or fit molds that need to be reused. They had it a bit easier with Siege when they just flat out made up vehicle modes for something like Soundwave or Shockwave. And I have a hard time considering any of this lazy when I still feel like this line incorporates a ton more engineering than any other toy line out there.

In any case, the only thing I had issue with is the "partsformers are against what transformers are." Now "Action" Masters, on the other hand...

Cliffjumper has a 3D printed accessory that allows his trunk/shield/backpack to stay permanently attached if you so wish. A fan made that, Has/Tak could as well, even a rudimentary option, but they didn't. They had a purpose and intent for the partsforming and went with it. I personally don't get the desire for it, but I don't hate the figure, either. I can see why people do love it, the shield use in particular, I guess the best way to put it is... Has/Tak could've given the option to keep it permanently attached or remove it as a weapon, but they just went with removable and it does seem...lacking to some degree. I'm sure it would've driven the cost of the figure up, though, so that's a consideration, too. (I do try to see all aspects before I pass judgment on a figure. Sometimes I fail.)

I had to go looking for it too. This makes it far more interesting than just a Spinister recolor.

Something I really wanna give Armada credit for is: everyone thinks Overload partsforms when he combines with Optimus, they think you need to remove the legs and reattach them to the arms. But actually, they designed a genius solution: If you align the parts right, as you slide the legs off sideways, they'll slide onto the arms without ever coming off. Marvelous. I've never seen any English review demonstrate this, but Vangelus mentioned it in his FP Chromedome review, and Spanish reviewer Auvelier is the only person who's shown it on video. (the benefits of being Mexican ;) ) Outside-the-box engineering like that is what I love in Transformers, and partsforming completely goes against it. So, although the toys definitely sacrificed articulation for gimmicks, even Armada designers are not to be underestimated.

Just got off work. Did Soundwave go back in stock at all today? It’s still showing out of stock, and I never received any email notifications.

I saw him in stock when i refreshed the walmart page about an hour and a half after he sold out. I added him to my cart only for it to sell out before checkout
