The design for the ROTF scout was great. It was a quality control nightmare though. I was extra careful with mine, at the first sign of a single stress fracture I just put it on my shelf and left it. Next time I looked at it, all 3 ball sockets on one side were cracked and the ball joints either flopped around or fell out. I superglued them, and it seemed to be a success, the joints still worked fine, but looking at it again tonight, one of them has come apart again and the others are very loose. If it fails under such light handling, it was never suitable for the general rigours of what is expected of a toy.

Maybe it's just bad plastic or some impurity that causes it to break down over time. My figure has not been exposed to extremes of temperature. I took every effort to avoid exerting force or pressure on the joints.

The actual design was an ambitious attempt at a very difficult concept, and they deserve to be applauded for pulling it off to the extent they did. It was unprecidented for the time, and to this day, remains the kind of design Hasbro will avoid at all costs, and heavily simplify so there is less that can go wrong. I could get some good poses out of it, but I could never recomend it as a toy. Even if the plastic didn't break, it is prone to small pieces popping loose, very easily lost. I could only recommend it as an adult collectors piece to be left alone.

Same thing happened to mine. Which is why I'm going with Mechanic Studios/Dr. Wu's ROTF Scalpel.

Same here. I never touched the damn thing. Its like the air just made the ball sockets crack.

Taking another gander at the photos with the Voyager Meg, it's hard to get a good read on just how small this is, but if it is indeed as small as it seems, then that does make the lackluster alt-mode a lot more understandable.

I see people talking about the alt-mode a lot and honestly... I don\'t get it. I mean the scout toy managed it but seriously has one LOOKED at the movie recently? That transformation I\'m thoroughly convinced at this scale would\'ve been basically impossible.

Was the cracking on the joints a common issue with the mold?

I'd sold mine off a long time ago, so I don't recall.

Something which I just found out which was really interesting to me since I never really paid close attention to his alternate mode is that Scalpel isn't actually a microscope in the movie. According to Tfwiki, he's actually a lensmeter, which is really kinda cool. This also means that his ROTF toy's alternate mode is inaccurate

It seems to be something like GPS that just cracks on its own over time. Not as bad to the point that it crumbles, but just cracks on its own without warning. Possibly the ball sockets are too tight and thin for the ball joints. If you live in the South, Im sure humidity might also play a factor. 20200716_004038.jpg

I think that Megatron is closer than they're using the focus to make him seem

Finally someone is making this! Awesome news. I saw it on instagram so I'm glad there's a thread now. I'm surprised Hasbro didn't pack in a tiny one (or three) with any of the megatrons they've done so far. Maybe they'll include one in a weapon pack like they did with all that super-specific G1 stuff?
Same. How often would I have this thing in microscope mode anyways? Hopefully it will look better in color though.

I got excited when I saw this thumbnail:
    Screenshot_20200716-180300_Firefox.jpg
Me: "That looks like ROTF Mixmaster! Is Dr. Wu doing a Legends sized Devastator!?"

Then disappointment sank in when I saw it was just...
    Screenshot_20200716-180446_Firefox.jpg
    ...Mohawk.

Yeah no one is paying attention to the size of this one (and mohawk) before passing judgement. They're both very small, so in my mind that excuses more about the inaccuracies. I hope they make more small figures from the movieverse! I would even like it if they made smaller versions of bigger characters, like iron factory does for G1. Seems like movieverse fans are the only ones who want everything to be huge all the time. I understand with the amount of detail that these characters have, but I want fun-sized sometimes!

I'm hoping they do a transforming Frenzy, Brains, Wheelie, and a new larger and more pose able Scorponok that transforms into something that can store on Blackout's back in robot mode and in helicopter mode.

They were listing other smaller characters though, I think that was the point, since this company has revealed two small characters so far.
